My father is very happy at Downham Grange. The room he has is very nice. He is able to move about freely using his frame and can go and get himself drinks whenever he likes. The food is mainly more than sufficient, sometimes too spicy for him, but he is always allowed to select something else that is
not on the day's menu if he wants to. The staff are really friendly and he gets on well with all of them and they seem to really love him. They do provide various entertainments but this doesn't interest him much, he has TV available in his room and the library volunteer service brings him books every month. They did have a bookcase in the home at one time which disappeared which did disappoint him as he loves to read so I supplement his reading supply when required. They also have a voice-controlled speaker and he is able to go up to the dining room and use it to listen to his favourite music. One downside is the shower in the en suite which if he uses it floods the room so he strip washes daily instead.

My mother has been generally well looked after and has a modern room with an ensuite. It also has a nice view of a grass park next to the care home. Sometimes it is difficult to contact her over the phone because of busy phone lines or lack of staff but I do get through eventually. She likes to get
out in the fresh air of the garden (weather permitting) but that doesn't appear to actually happen very often. Similarly, activities outside the care home (trips to the town centre, cafe, shops, supermarket etc.) don't occur on a regular basis despite being requested. There are three activity co-ordinator staff and they don't appear to communicate well to ensure that mother gets out regularly and they monitor between them how regularly. I would like to also see more direct involvement with her GP in Downham. She needs to reduce her cholesterol levels and this appears to have been overlooked to some extent. Therefore, overall satisfactory but areas for improvement.

We are concerned that you feel our care does not reach your expectations. Your mother is given one-to-one support daily by care staff and does engage in activities within the home. She is able to access the local community when she wishes although she has been known to refuse this when asked. The activity team meet weekly with the hospitality manager so that there is adequate opportunity for communication between the team.
The home was not given any specific information around cholesterol levels but have contacted the GP for clarification and they have advised that there were no actions to be taken following a blood test result in August. We will ensure that she continues to have a well-balanced, healthy diet and that we are liaising with the GP on a regular basis as per our normal procedures.

On arriving at Downham Grange to take my mother out for a few hours, she was all ready and waiting in the lounge with a carer, I was concerned my mother may not be very comfy with her legs resting on the footplate of the wheelchair so the carer found a pillow and didn't hesitate to help me make my mother's
legs comfier. She also came to my mother's room and helped remove unwanted nighties. I found her to be extremely caring and helpful. A lovely carer.

My dad seemed very happy and didn't really want to leave because the food was so good. I also had a few meals with him and the meals were very good. The staff were always helpful and eager to go the extra mile for him. The room was ensuite and he could have a shower every day with the staff always on

My nan came in as an emergency as had a really bad infection, and we didn't have the facilities to care for her and keep her safe. Downham Grange got my nan in that day and have been totally amazing. They have gone above and beyond to help us. Every time I have been in, the staff have all been so welcoming
to me, especially my children. I can't thank everyone enough. They have great activities, which really helped to get nan to interact.

My dad was transferred to you for end of life care and although his stay was shorter than we thought, the staff made his final days welcoming and comfortable. On the day he passed away, nothing was any trouble, providing drinks and even giving my mother lunch and tea. Everyone was treated with respect
and compassion, fantastic staff.

Mum and dad have been at Downham Grange Care Home for the last six months, during which time the home has had to deal with very challenging circumstances with Covid-19. I think the staff have managed incredibly well, offering the love and support my parents need. I have been very impressed with the
quality and presentation of food and drinks on offer. The home is very well maintained and kept to a high modern standard. Cleaning is continuous and given the circumstances within a dementia ward is challenging. The staff really are loving, caring and fantastic. Thank you.

My mother and father-in-law have both been at Downham Grange since September 2021, they have been treated with care and respect. The way the care staff speak to them is wonderful. They both have many complex needs which are met with a high professional level of care in all areas of their health and
welfare. Communication with management and nursing staff is excellent as we are kept informed of all aspects of their care.

The care staff are lovely and provide great care to Dad. That’s the important stuff. However I think it’s important to mention unlike most care homes, Downham Grange does not deduct the NHS nursing allowance but keep it with no deduction to dad's bill. We were quite shocked to discover this. Especially
as this funding was achieved by the family and this website states it should be deducted.

My dad has been in Downham Grange for eight months and he seems very happy and settled there. The staff there look after him very well and they keep me informed too. He tells me the food is very good.

My lovely mum has been at Downham Grange for a few years now and she is cared for very well. Unfortunately, at this awful time with Covid and not being able to visit, I take comfort in the fact that the staff are so kind and really care for Mum. I call any time and am reassured by the kind staff, who
do the things I am unable to do at this time. Relinquishing care is so hard, but I am grateful to Downham Grange for taking care of my wonderful mum. Hopefully, I will be able to see and cuddle her soon. Thank you.

My dad was transferred to Downham Grange after having a stroke. Dad has settled very well due to the kindness, understanding and empathy of every staff member. The standard of nursing care has been very good, keeping me informed as much as possible. Visiting has been a huge challenge for the staff,
residents and relatives. The manager has done everything she can to keep our loved ones safe. In the summer months, it was just wonderful to sit in the garden with my dad with appropriate PPE. Unfortunately, it's not possible to visit at the moment, but I've been able to have WhatsApp chats with dad. The nurses have also sent me photos of dad enjoying activities. Dad is often very confused but always tells me he enjoys the food.

My mother was admitted to Downham Grange in March 2020 suffering from dementia and several other medical problems. At 94 years old this was the first time she had not lived independently.
During a stay of 5 months before she passed away, our family were so impressed by the care and professionalism
of the nursing staff and care workers in the dementia unit, who helped my mother settle in and feel secure and trusting. They had a real understanding of dementia issues and always treated her with affection and dignity. Liaison with the family through video calls and WhatsApp helped us stay in contact with our mother during the shutdown of visiting.
My mother was given the very best care and all the staff were fantastic. We would certainly recommend Downham Grange to others.

Since the start, my mum has been treated with great care and respect. Staff are very genuine and express appropriate emotions and actions when handling Mum. They are so hard-working, and even when busy with other people, always make time to listen and carry out requests when time permits. There is always

We think you could do with more staff, my uncle is often forgotten about because he mostly looks after himself. The staff that are here are mostly very nice. He didn't have a cup of tea until 10 am this morning after he asked for his breakfast.

Having previously worked as the Clinical Lead in a large care home where she was responsible for all things clinical, Adeshola started her time with Kingsley in October at Buckingham Lodge where she was Deputy Manager, but with her skills and aptitude, it was soon evident that she would make an excellent Home Manager.

I have worked in care for over 15 years on the hospitality side of things, which I absolutely love! I like to be hands-on, helping in all non-clinical departments. In my last role, I was involved in commissioning a new home, developing maintenance, kitchen, housekeeping, laundry and activities. I am now looking forward to my role as hospitality manager at Downham Grange and all the role brings. I am passionate about care and enjoy chatting with the residents, ensuring they have everything they need and finding out if there is anything else we can do to support them. I live in a very small village in Lincolnshire with my husband and two dogs, which I rescued from Romania about a year ago. They love walks and going to the dog park; they also love the beach.


I spend my spare time renovating my house, and with my children and grandchildren.
