We think you could do with more staff, my uncle is often forgotten about because he mostly looks after himself. The staff that are here are mostly very nice. He didn't have a cup of tea until 10 am this morning after he asked for his breakfast.

My mum has been a resident for two years. The staff have been good, and communication via her key worker/nurse has been excellent. I would like more activities but appreciate that it is difficult for a number of reasons.

Mum has been here for three months at this time, I have found the staff to be always smiling and helpful. The house is always clean, and the food looks fantastic. Mum's care is more than most, and it's taken with great care. I cannot recommend this care home enough.

My mum has recently become a resident. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Knowing that around the clock care is available for now is so reassuring for the family. Management and staff are always happy to have a chat about any issues, worries or concerns we may have.

Plenty of activities for residents to get involved in.

I have found the staff to be extremely helpful and considerate. As with most homes of this rating, the pressure upon them can be great at peak times and I can only appreciate the work they do. I think that there could be more attention placed upon furniture and provision of.

The first time I visited Downham Grange was to arrange for a friend of mine to come in for rehab. The manager was very professional and showed me around the building. I was very impressed, the staff are very pleasant and the quality of care given to the residents is outstanding. My friend has enjoyed her stay at the Downham Grange and we both would highly recommend to family and friends.

The staff work extra hard but at times they are really pushed to their limits! Short staffed is usual. They are all kind and caring and only want the best for the residents but at times this is not attainable as trying to do so many jobs at once. The home is clean and the lady on reception is lovely, friendly and welcoming.

My stepfather was in The Grange for 3 weeks to give my mother a break. He was very well looked after. The home was very well set out, he was able to go to the lounge with help. My mother was very pleased with the friendly staff and that they were helpful but she felt there needed to more sometimes. The new manager was very professional and very friendly, she seemed to really care and would come and see the residents daily, often having a sing with them. As a family, she was very helpful to all of us when trying to sort out what we had to do, paperwork wise. All the staff, from the front desk to the carers were nice and seemed to care. I would recommend this as a lovely place to spend your last few years, my mother would have liked to have moved in as well to be looked after.

We have generally been happy overall, however, it is our hope that the new manager will tighten things up. It would not take a lot to move our ratings from satisfactory to good and above we look forward to these general improvements happening soon.

I am pleased with the care my mum receives. There are three small issues:
- Staffing levels are not always good at weekends.
- Rooms are not always clean

- Food, when it gets to her room, is not hot.

Downham Grange is a very modern, clean and friendly home.
I have always found the staff in Downham Grange very friendly and always ready to help with any problems my mother has experienced in the years she has been in the care home.
All the rooms are of a very high standard and the residents now have activities every afternoon, which they enjoy. This has not always been the case in the past under previous managers.

My major criticism of Downham Grange is the constant changing of managers and staff over the years which can be unsettling for residents and their families.

Generally, the facility is clean and pleasant to visit. Only a few familiar staff faces remain since my mum began care here approx 18 months ago. Most care staff are good, try their best, are compassionate and caring, however, there are simply insufficient numbers with respect to the highly dependent residents. This can result in long waiting times for a buzzer to be answered and care to be delivered. Management response to this has been ‘we have higher numbers of staff than recommended government guidelines’.
Varied and nicely presented ‘home cooked’ food/meals including the availability of snacks but not always staff to assist dependent residents in a timely manner.

A bizarre situation in kitchenette whereby no dishwasher is allowed due to regulations and care staff have to hastily wash up often quite large amounts by hand in lukewarm water and dried using dubious tea towels. Then there is a note on the main door about stopping the spread of norovirus…!

Provision of continence aids and pants was a big problem - constantly being borrowed from other sources. I was told after two months that pads were my responsibility and directed to a chemist to make the purchase. Insufficient staff for daily busy times.

I have worked in care for over 20 years and qualified as a nurse six years ago. During my career, I’ve gained extensive experience supporting adults with a wide range of health needs, helping them with daily living while promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing. I have worked in care for over 15 years on the hospitality side of things, which I absolutely love! I like to be hands-on, helping in all non-clinical departments. In my last role, I was involved in commissioning a new home, developing maintenance, kitchen, housekeeping, laundry and activities. I am now looking forward to my role as hospitality manager at Downham Grange and all the role brings. I am passionate about care and enjoy chatting with the residents, ensuring they have everything they need and finding out if there is anything else we can do to support them. I live in a very small village in Lincolnshire with my husband and two dogs, which I rescued from Romania about a year ago. They love walks and going to the dog park; they also love the beach.

I spend my spare time renovating my house, and with my children and grandchildren.
