Harker House care home has been purpose built in the village of Long Stratton to provide residential care to 35 people over 65-years-old. The home includes a special secure unit for residents living with dementia.

Residents are invited to personalise their furnished room which also contains an emergency call bell system, fire alarm system and TV socket.

The home has adapted baths and showers, a payphone (although residents can choose to have a telephone point in their room), a hairdressing room and a secure garden.

The home prides itself on its friendly and welcoming environment and all residents have a key worker who works on the individual’s personal care plan, which is continuously reviewed so residents’ choices, interests and hobbies are all accounted for.

Mum moved into Harker House in September 2021. Since she arrived she has been warmly welcomed and after a shaky start whilst she adapted to her new surroundings, she now couldn't be happier. There is not a time when Mum doesn't praise the high level of care she receives and has built really strong relationships
with staff. She truly feels safe and secure and says she doesn't have to worry about anything. Her personalised care includes her newspaper being delivered every day, hairdresser weekly and poached eggs for breakfast. She often thinks she is in a hotel! The manager is brilliant and keeps us updated regularly with any changes and I feel the communication from all staff is excellent. Anytime we have taken Mum out she is welcomed back so warmly with friendly faces and hugs (when Covid allows). As a healthcare professional myself I have high standards and I think Harker House has lived up to every expectation and our family couldn't be more relieved and happy.

When I took my Dad to view Harker House he loved the experience and as he walked out the door, he said "I could happily live there". He has been in Harker House for over two years now and the level of care has been consistently high throughout that time.
Dad has been treated with love and respect by
all the staff and it is obvious from the way the staff treat Dad that it is more than a job - it is as if they are looking after their own family.
I have also been treated as an extension of that family in that the staff have been happy to relate messages and hugs to Dad and when Dad moved rooms a member of staff showed me round the room on video calls.
The support of the staff to me has been above the call of duty and I am totally reassured that Dad is in the best possible care.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Harker House to anyone who needs residential care.

Sadly my mother died on April 29th 2021 (at age 100) having been living at Harker House for almost two years. I cannot fault her care throughout her stay at Harker House. The staff are wonderful, caring and compassionate, creating a family-friendly atmosphere for all the residents. It is only when
you visit you realise caring is a vocation, not just a job. As my mother's health deteriorated with advancing dementia her care plan was adjusted to match her needs. This made her final days as happy and fulfilled as possible. Thank you all at Harker House.

My nan has been a resident just over a year now and loves the home as she chose to live at Harker House. The staff are amazing and look after Nan very well. Nan settled very quickly there. The staff have been great in the current covid situation and have kept the residents happy throughout and us relatives
too, doing lots of facetime and window visits when allowed. Nan recently celebrated her 100th birthday. The staff made her birthday very special and gave her a lovely day.

My father was a resident at Harker House for over 5 years, he has always been treated with care and consideration. The activities were varied and he enjoyed them, especially visits from the children of a Charity. The last year at Harker House was difficult as he lost his sight and hearing. My father
passed away on 5th November. He was cared for extremely well up until his passing.

My sister had been living alone for many years. She became unable to carry on like that. My wife and I looked around at several care homes, then someone said: "have you looked at Harker House".
We phoned and spoke to the Manager and arranged an appointment, I think it was that afternoon. We were very
impressed with the general layout of the place and the general ambience. My sister was in in about 10 days and loved it. The other residents and the staff made her very welcome, and I know she wished she had moved in sooner.

My nan was in the care of Harker House for just about a year, we can’t thank them enough as a family the love and care that she was given, we went to take her home and she told us she was home and wanted to go back so that’s how friendly they are. I would always recommend them to anyone who needs respite

My mother who died on 25th April at 100+ years of age received excellent care during the four years she lived at Harker House. The staff was all very caring and when we visited, we as a family, always received a very warm welcome and we shall miss the weekly visits, not only to see Mum but our chats
with all the staff. We felt like part of the care home family. I cannot speak too highly of them all. They are wonderful!

Harker House is so lovely. I had a bad experience with trying to find a home for my Mother; with no success, how I wish, I had found Harker House. It is so warm every staff member is so friendly it is so clean and smells so lovely. I am so impressed; such amazing care is given to everyone. I cannot

My mother has been a resident at Harker House for two years and four months, up to her death at the end of January 2020. I cannot speak too highly of the care she received during that time. With assessments of her health needs, likes and dislikes and personal choices, the care given was tailor-made
for her. She was helped and encouraged to join in activities that she was interested in and loved some of the games and entertainment. The staff were patient, kind and had a great sense of humour. Mum felt happy and secure. Sadly, when her health deteriorated, two carers were needed for some care and much more intensive care was needed and given. She was and we are so grateful for that and the quality of life given for her last two years.

Wow, the staff at Harker House are fantastic. It shows that they do truly care and are a great team. Mum was only there a short period and she can be very challenging at times but they were able to help and assist at every step. The support that has been given to mum and the family is above and beyond.
Yes,
the building is a bit dated but the care is what is key. I would mark excellent for all but cost will always be a lot.
Safety was excellent. Shame mum was not able to stay. Thank you.

Being an extravert, I immediately attempted to fit in and I was accepted by 90% of workers and residents. I would not hesitate to come back again if the need ever arose again in the future.

We cannot over-state the excellent care that Mum received at Harker House. She was a very "private" lady, but the staff went out of their way to make her feel comfortable. So much so, that she looked on them as an extension of her own family.

I can't praise this care home enough.
The staff are welcoming, caring and friendly. The management are the same, door to the office always open. Mum was always treated with respect and dignity as was I, her daughter.

I have worked in care since 2007, starting off as a care assistant and progressing into my current position. I have experience of working in various care settings and my last role before joining the team at Harker Houser was as the Manager of a home providing dementia care.


I absolutely love how varied my days are and how rewarding it is to make a difference to residents’ lives by providing good quality, person centred care.
