St Mary's is sometimes quite smelly! The change over in staff is huge! When on my last visit I was informed nine new people were starting, not due to not enough staff but to replace staff that have left! My aunt is bed bound, but quite aware of all of her surroundings. Her room is quite untidy and
has a dirty carpet! Some staff are really caring. Not enough for patients to do! No stimulation.
Reply from Dawn Wood, Home Manager at St Mary's Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review St Mary’s Care Home - we really do appreciate all feedback and comments. In relation to the issues you have raised in your review - the cleanliness of the home is paramount. There is a structured and thorough cleaning schedule in place which is monitored by a daily walk around the home to address and resolve any issues promptly.

We do have an Activities Leader here who provides fulfilling activities to residents on a daily basis. We have activities such as newspaper discussions and each Friday we hold a bingo afternoon for both residents and their relatives. Some residents do prefer not to participate and in this instance, the Activities Leader will spend time on a one-to-one basis with them.

I would be happy to discuss any other issues with you so please don’t hesitate to get in contact. Thank you again for your review.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.615) out of 10 for St Mary's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.615 for St Mary's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (211 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 296 Ratings = 4.615
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2025

I have worked in Care for around 10 years. I previously worked as a Deputy working with adults with physical and learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries and mental health conditions. One of my passions is Mental Health and Well-Being. I went to university in Cambridge where I received my degree in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology. I am Level 5 qualified and a Mental Health First Aider. I hope to do a Masters Degree in one of these fields. Outside of work I try and spend time with my friends as often as I can and enjoy attending as many concerts as I can.
I have always wanted to work in a setting where I am able to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Since starting Kingsley everyone has been very welcoming. We have a great team here who put the lives of the residents at the forefront of everything they do. I am very excited for my future with Kinglsey and where it will take me.

Job Title: Administrator

I have worked in administration and office management for many years. Although I had worked across the NHS and the private care sector, I had taken a break from this professional area of work. Joining St Mary's has just been amazing. It's a great feeling being central at reception in seeing staff, residents and family. No one day is the same. We have an amazing team supporting all of our residents. Outside of work my family our my focus.

Job Title: Activities & Lifestyle Co-ordinator

I worked in the Holiday Park industry for 20 years, covering roles such as show team singer to Entertainments Manager, before moving over to Events Co-ordinator for those who owned their own holiday homes. After first-hand experience of finding care for a family member, I decided I would like to be a part of the care home sector to try and enrich the day-to-day lives of residents who live there, and so in January 2025, I joined the team at St Mary's Care Home. I enjoy providing a variety of activities that encourage and assist our residents to socialise and keep their independence through joining in. I enjoy spending time with the residents and getting to know them and their families. The atmosphere at St Mary's is a lovely balance of friendship and care between everyone who lives, works and visits our home.

Outside of wor,k I enjoy spending time with my family, my dog Molly and travelling.
