Harleston House offers a safe and friendly environment, which respects residents’ rights, dignity and privacy, and provides the maximum opportunity to exercise personal autonomy and choice.

Located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, Harleston House provides residential dementia care to older people.

The original house has been refurbished and extended to provide a specialist dementia care setting.

All staff receive training in all aspects of care.

Bedrooms are light and spacious with en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items and can enjoy safe and secure internal and external spaces, which are specially adapted to provide accessibility and stimulation.

The home's chefs cater for each and every resident's individual tastes.

In February 2017 my husband spent two weeks respite at Harleston House and settled very well.
I knew immediately that when he finally needed specialist full-time care, this is where I would want him to be. Liaison between management, staff and the resident's relative is excellent. I cannot praise
Harleston House enough and would recommend it to anyone needing dementia care.

I feel my mum is in a safe, nurturing home which would be hard to better. ALL the staff treat the residents with kindness and compassion and ensure that they are stimulated at every opportunity. We are involved in any and all situations which from time to time crop up.

A happy home with cheerful team of carers. Good premises with modern facilities, including good lift system to upper floors. Busy entertainment/activities programme. Personal and medical care of residents is very good. Only one complaint - laundry items are not always returned to correct residents.

My mother has now lived in Harleston House for six months after suffering from dementia for around four years. I am constantly moved by the kindness and humanity shown by all who work there. There is a warm loving environment and it really is a home for its residents. This is helped by the fact that
none of the staff wears a uniform. There are always excellent events to attend such as the Christmas party and summer fete. All the staff go above and beyond their role by attending events in their own time. There is always something happening for the residents.


Dementia is a terrible illness. The team at Harleston House have helped my mother to enter a new phase of her life which is busy and full of kindness and laughter. They are welcoming and supportive. My sister and I could not ask for any better. It is care of the very highest standard.

My father has been supported to settle into his new home in a friendly and communicative way. The specific day that I am writing about, I visited my father who has severe dementia, being very actively encouraged to participate in some quiz, being given time to answer in a very person-centred way. Three
different staff supported him verbally when he wandered into the garden. One of the best care homes in the country.

My mother had two falls within five days braking upper left arm and left hip. She has dementia and has been living in Harleston House for 6 years. The care which mother has received from the home has been unbelievable. The manager and staff have been caring, loving, and gentle with my mother. Her recovery
has been because of the amazing care which she is receiving from all who work at Harleston House. I am sorry to say that if she had stayed in the hospital she would not have had her 86th birthday which was celebrated by family and all at Harleston House. I look forward to my visits because of the warmth, laughter and general wellbeing I feel. My mother may not be able to communicate with speech but I can see by her face how happy she is and the way her face lights up when carers are with her.
If you are looking for a home for a relative, do not hesitate to contact Harleston House. You will be so glad you did.

My father was a resident in Harleston House for five and a half years. Throughout that time the care he received was excellent and gave me peace of mind throughout that period. He lived to be 99 years when he passed away in May 2015 and the care and kindness he received during his last weeks and days
was exemplary.

My mother had a new lease of life when she entered this home (after being moved from a care home in another part of the country).
She enjoyed every day and was very happy there - forming new relationships and even meeting a new boyfriend, of whom she became very fond. I was always happy that the staff
cared for her in a loving and personal way. My only regret was that she passed away in hospital and not in her new second home.

I am pleased to say that my aunt is always well cared for. There is copious cups of tea and the food always looks appetising. The staff are always friendly and work very hard trying to engage the residents in various activities. The Christmas party was a great success.

It was a very difficult decision to admit we were not coping with mum's needs, and she was not happy with carers in her home. Mum was always used to having her own way but the staff at Harleston coped brilliantly, with kindness and understanding. It is a lovely home, bright, clean and all the residents
seem free to do what they want while being cared for and visitors are always welcome when the end finally came, everything possible was done to make her comfortable and she was peaceful and as always treated with dignity.

I find that all the staff at Harleston House are always friendly and approachable. There are always activities going on and relatives are always encouraged to take part. Any medical issues are always dealt with promptly and over the three years my mother has been a resident I have not felt the need
to highlight any issues. Relatives are able to visit at any time during the day and evening.

All staff go the extra mile putting the happiness of the residents FIRST.
The Home is completely safe, it is a 2 person operation to open the main door, with the 'button' hidden & not indicated in any way. There is no way a resident could escape.
There are no restrictions on visiting times, or
numbers.
This is is the third Residential Home my husband has been in and at last I have complete peace of mind knowing that all his needs are being met, and in such an emphatic manner.
I just cannot praise this Home and staff highly enough.

My father went into Harleston House in February 2014 and past away November 2015. From the time he went in the staff were brilliant with him, and he was not an easy man to deal with. At the end of his life they gave him 24 hour care and actually the manager was with dad when he slipped away. This in
my opinion was over and above my expectations of them. As an only son now 65 years they made my life easy because I did not have to worry about dad I knew he was in safe hands.

Harleston House looked after my mother for four years up to April 2015 and during this time also cared for my father for a period of about six months in 2013. The staff provided an excellent standard of care to my parents and also considerable support to the family - not just on a personal level but
also in dealings with agencies such as Social Services and various NHS departments.


What they gave me and other family members was a feeling of confidence that our parents were being looked after not just in a professional manner but also by staff who genuinely cared. This eases considerably any anxieties family may have especially as many lived in other parts of the country.


In visiting my parents over the four year period I found the high level of care to be reflected not just in those employed as carers but in all staff whether they be management, on reception, in the kitchens or cleaning.
I would recommend Harleston House to anyone in the Lowestoft area looking for a high quality care home.

My mum has been a resident at Harleston Care Home for over three years, she has dementia and has been looked after extremely well by all the staff, who's care, commitment and dedication to their job's help her challenging behaviour and needs. The staff are always friendly and helpful and really seem
to enjoy being with all the residents. There is a very enthusiastic activities team, and the food is of a very good standard. The home is kept in excellent order and is very clean inside and out. I feel very fortunate to have found such an outstanding home for my mum.

The staff really care about the individuals and make sure everything is okay. As soon as there is any issue with health the doctor is contacted straight away. The activities laid on and varied. The meals are excellent. I couldn't have placed my mum in a better place, it is comforting to know that she
is safe and well cared for. The staff and manager do a terrific job and I would gladly recommend them.

My personal philosophy here is 'I don’t come here to work, I come and live around the residents offering them companionship, support and encouragement in all aspects of their lives.'
I involve residents as much as they wish in making decisions in all areas of their home. My passion, drive and commitment to Harleston is well supported by all my team, residents and relatives involved with Harleston House.
