During the lockdown, all staff have been so loving and respectful to our mum. As visits have been allowed, the staff have facilitated safe, friendly visits and have been so helpful when it is clearly causing them more work. They look after her so well, including a beautiful cake for her birthday.

My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000, and I always knew that care would be inevitable, but I wasn’t looking forward to the thought of him going into a care home. St Joseph’s was recommended to me, and when my daughter and I paid a preliminary visit, we were very impressed by the cleanliness, the location and particularly liked the spaciousness of the communal areas. My husband moved into St Joseph’s in May 2019, and from the moment he arrived, he felt at home there. Pre-Covid, there were never any restrictions on visiting times, and we were always made to feel very welcome and part of the family. Sadly, he died in October 2020 during the pandemic, but despite that, the staff respected his wishes not to go into hospital and cared for him at St Joseph’s to the end. I can absolutely recommend St Joseph’s as a residential care home – and have done several times.

Admitting my close friend, who has dementia to St Josephs during Covid has been very challenging on the emotions. The worst part is not having ever been inside the building other than to the visitor's room, thus it is very hard to comment on many of the categories, as I have no first-hand knowledge, so have just marked as satisfactory for the time being, but look forward to a time when I will be able to do so.

In the interim, however, everybody at St Josephs has been so understanding and are wonderfully helpful, to both myself and in the care that they give. Their job is tough at the best of times, but right now it must be as heartbreaking for them as for the relatives and friends of the residents. They work tirelessly to facilitate communication, are always cheerful, and most importantly, always listen and take action to deal with my worries. I very much look forward to the day when I can give them all a hug just to say thank you.

My mother was a resident in St Joseph's for over seven years until her death in March 2020. She had had dementia for about eight years prior to that, and my father placed her there when he could no longer cope. Her condition steadily deteriorated during her stay, and in her last years, she had lost virtually all speech and mobility. Throughout her time there, the staff and environment were never less than superb, always showing great love and compassion, and treating residents with respect and care. That level of humanity was also extended to visiting family members, who were always welcomed, and was kept informed by telephone of any concerns, mishaps, doctor's visits etc. My father also became a resident, in the non-dementia area, for the last two years of his life. Once again, his stay at St Joseph's was excellent and made his final years comfortable and enjoyable. In both their cases the palliative care in their final days was wonderful and demonstrated great knowledge and experience.

My mum has been a resident in the dementia wing at St Joe's since 2016.
I cannot speak highly enough about the incredible personal care that Mum receives from all staff there. There really is an amazing team feel throughout, with happy, chatty staff that are welcoming on every visit. We have had fantastic communication throughout lockdown with texts and video calls with Mum.

Both my father and sister have had and passed away from dementia. I can categorically say that St Josephs is the best home in the area with outstanding care throughout.

The team at St Joseph’s have yet again surpassed their own incredibly high standards to be prepared, forward-thinking and ahead of the game during these difficult times. The staff are quite simply outstanding and their care and devotion to residents is second to none. We have been able to use technology to still see my mother-in-law and they communicate clearly with us at all times about their strategy to protect. There is no shortage of PPE thanks to forward planning. The home is quite simply outstanding. Well done to the manager and your fantastic team.

My father lived at St Joseph's from March 2017 until he passed away on 1st April 2018 aged 98. He was very independent and staff treated him with great courtesy and respect. There is a real family atmosphere where all the staff work as a team under the manager's guidance. I cannot praise highly enough the kind, caring and cheerful staff. My father had many visitors and everyone commented on the friendly and courteous staff, whatever their role.
Most of all, we will never ever forget how lovingly he was cared for during the last few months of his life when his health was failing and he knew he would not get better. They respected his wishes when he'd had enough and did all they could to make his final days as comfortable as possible. They gave our family great support and kindness during this very sad time.

To my Dad, St Josephs quickly became home, not a Home and is an example of how residential care should be.

The staff at St Joseph's Sudbury were lovely and very caring to my cousin. When my cousin died, the staff kept him very clean and comfortable for the three days that he was bedridden.
And after death, they placed a little bunch of flowers on his chest.
My cousin looked very peaceful and clean.

The staff were also very sweet to us, comforting and caring. My cousin was treated with dignity at all times, he suffered from Alzheimer's.

My mother was a resident for over four and a half years at St Joseph's during which time she lived in the main house on the dementia unit. She was very well treasured by the staff at all times who dealt with her anxieties and distress with care and compassion. Thanks to the kindness of the staff, my sister and I were able to stay with her at the home whilst she slowly slipped away we will always remember their kindness.

My dad was cared for at St Joseph's for the past 2 years. Dad went into end of life care during January/February of this year.
During dad's stay at the home, he was always treated with respect and dignity and loved the staff who cared for him.
During the last two weeks of his time at the home, dad, and the family were excellently looked after with every thought to both his and the family needs.
The professional, but caring approach could not be faulted and we are so glad that dad had St Joseph's to Care for him. A person-centred approach seeing dad as an individual.
Little things like his favourite duvet cover, his music played quietly in the back ground, personal end of life care making dad as comfortable as possible. Communicating with family on a daily basis.

The manager and some seniors with us when dad passed.

Thank you so much to the Manager and her team for all the love, care and support they gave to dad.........we all miss his smile.

I have been a resident at St. Josephs since 2008 - a long time. I came before I needed the care I do now, but I was recently widowed, not very well and needed to think of the future and my family. At that time, one was invited to make one's home here, to continue an outside life as far as possible within the safety and facilities offered. It has been a wonderful experience for me as that same attitude and atmosphere continues. Management is very good. Staff are excellent in their work; they are not intrusive, are friendly and interested in our lives but equally, do not expect intrusion in theirs. The warm, friendly, safe feeling shows great respect for each other. I have recently been unwell with cardiac problems but welcomed back from the hospital and given great care so after a little despair, I now look forward to continuing my life.
