My mum was in Lavender Cottage for 3 weeks respite. It was a lovely, homely place, the staff were always friendly and offered drinks whenever you arrived. The care my mum received was excellent and the home was always spotlessly clean and smelt fresh. When I visited I spent a lot of time in the well-kept
gardens. On two afternoons we had people entertaining - it was brilliant and it was lovely to see everyone having a sing song.

Overall first impressions are good and residents appear well cared for and content. The food is of a good standard and plentiful. Rooms are comfortable, if on the small side. Most carers appear considerate and helpful. Any problems are dealt with in relatively short space of time. However, for a home
which has dementia care as one of its core attributes too many residents are left to their own devices and activities occur in an arbitrary manner. Few if any stimuli around the home, sensory, wall, memory, corners etc. Often arrive to see residents sitting in circle with television on in the background.

My mother has been in Lilac Lodge 3 1/2 years and has been happy there and if she is happy then I am happy. If there are any problems then I sort them out at the time as I go and see her nearly every day and go to the meetings once a month.

On the whole, we are satisfied with the care Dad receives at Lilac Lodge. Understandably there are times when they are very understaffed and possibly personal hygiene isn't attended to as quick as we would like. Dad is now on medication for his violent outbursts and the staff, in particular, the Manager,
have been brilliant. He now requires help with feeding and again we cannot fault them.

My mother has been living at Lilac Lodge & Lavender Cottage for 6 months and I am very pleased with the care that she receives. She has Vascular Dementia and is very confused most of the time. The staff are very patient, caring and very kind to Mum. They always seem to know just what she wants or needs.
The manager is very helpful and always keep me informed of all the current events. I feel very relieved that Mum is being looked after by such wonderful staff.

Zena

Zena Stotter

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2015

My career in care started in January 2000 when I started working as a carer and then team leader in a Suffolk County Council Home in Lowestoft. Every day was different and I loved the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable and frail people that I cared for.


I later became the manager of an older person’s rehabilitation unit and I worked in this role for 6 years as part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside, social workers, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. When the funding ended for this service I became the manager of the Wellbeing Centre. This involved providing care and stimulating activities for older people and people with dementia.


In 2015, I started my employment with Kingsley Healthcare as manager of Lilac Lodge and Lavender Cottage.


I am proud to manage the home and the team that I work with. The staff are kind, caring and respectful to all residents. The home has a warm and welcoming feeling that is often commented on by families and visitors.

Kimberley Shaw is our deputy manager, and she started her career in teaching, switching to the care sector in 2015. She relishes her role working with both residents and staff.

She started work at Kingsley Healthcare more than two years ago and joined the team at Lilac Lodge in October 2022. I joined the team at Lilac Lodge in March 2023. I have over eight years of experience working in residential care homes and feel I have the knowledge and experience to provide well-balanced meals and cater for the residents who have dietary requirements. The team at Lilac Lodge is very friendly, and my colleagues make me feel very welcome. I feel part of a team here and love working with everyone.


In my spare time, I love to travel to different places. I also enjoy trying different restaurants and cake making.
