Avenue House has a Review Score of 9.6 (9.589) out of 10, based on 10 reviews in the last 2 years.
Over all time Avenue House has 75 reviews.
We have been able to visit fairly regularly and got to know the home, staff and many residents during this time.
As for many people, Covid has not been a good period as she has not been able to go out of the grounds for most of the past year until recently.
A minor point. The vegetarian food could be improved as could access to fruit.
The staff at Avenue House are very caring and committed. They give as much time as possible to spending time with the residents, for example, taking them for a walk. We are fortunate in Avenue House to have the garden house where we can see relatives and families whatever the weather; it is totally Covid-safe.
It's a good experience living here in old age.
My experience of Avenue House during this current time of Covid is that every possible support has been given to support the relationships of family, and friends with residents. The carers, handyman and admin staff have become enablers of the use of i-pads, laptops and phones to keep people connected visually and provided entertainment etc. The summerhouse visiting is very comfortable and warm, being set up with microphones is a great help to those with poor hearing. The face to face visits inside the house have been organised to keep the residents safe using testing and PPE. Communication with the Board of Avenue House has been made so easy by regular meetings on Zoom and enabled relatives, the manager and the Board to work things out together to help everyone. Reviews have gone ahead using Zoom as well. The garden has been a godsend to residents who like to be outside, at this time. Thank you. I would recommend Avenue House to anyone needing care.
Avenue House is such an amazing place. All the carers and staff are so thoughtful and helpful. They have been so professional yet caring through these COVID times. My mum feels well looked after and part of another family.
Having had the experience of seeing several homes in the process of finding accommodation for two other relations (father and Aunt), Avenue House has been a revelation on every front. I sincerely wish all care homes could be run along these lines.
Couldn’t rate Avenue House highly enough - the care my parents receive here has been wonderful. The past few months have been rough going, mentally, being locked down but all the staff have worked so hard to keep everyone happy and healthy - thank you.
My Aunt lived in Avenue House for 5 years. She had chosen it herself as she was instantly taken by the sunny rooms and the friendly staff. We could not have wished for a better place for her to spend the final stages of her life. She loved Avenue House. The food; the activities; the frequent birthday parties; the trips to the zoo; but mostly the staff. They all knew her and saw her as an individual. She changed a lot over the time she was there and was cared for beautifully at every stage, the staff keeping us up to date. Sadly, as in so many care homes, Covid eventually affected Avenue House. My aunt caught it. Avenue House and the GP worked so closely with us to enable her to stay in a familiar place where she was happy and settled. She died in her room with her things about her, the amazing, fantastic staff ever-present. I don't know how we will ever be able to thank them for giving her five such happy years and such a beautiful, dignified death.
My sister, who had slight learning difficulties, but had been living independently for a number of years with carer support, moved to Avenue House five years ago when her carers retired. Sadly, she died of Covid in December 2020. However, before her death, she had had probably spent the happiest years of her life at Avenue House. She was a very jolly person, very outward-going, interested in everything that was happening around her and, above all, fascinated by the lives of everyone with whom she came into contact. Avenue House and its staff rapidly became her 'family' as soon as she had moved in. The staff at all levels always treated her with care, thoughtfulness and friendliness and, thanks to them, she enjoyed her time there immensely. She died quietly and in peace and was able to do so in the place she loved, among her 'family'. Dear Avenue House, thank you all so much for your years of love.
We are so pleased with Avenue House! Although it was tricky to move my mum from the USA to Avenue House between lockdowns, Avenue House couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. She was brilliantly taken care of during lockdown numbers 2 and 3 and it has been such a relief. They've encouraged my mum to take up all sorts of activities that she never did before (arts and crafts, pumpkin carving etc.). They know she loves music and ensure that she's front and centre for every musical event. They make sure she gets outside whenever she can, as it really revitalises her. I love knowing that if I have any concerns or want someone to check on her, I can do so 24 hours a day. It really is a brilliant place and I couldn't speak more highly of it.
My Aunt has been at Avenue House for over 7 years. She has been very happy there. The staff are very caring and she has enjoyed the food. The staff at the home have worked so hard during the pandemic in what has been a very difficult time for residents and their relatives. There have been lots of activities provided and they have always made sure that there is something that everyone can participate in if they so wish. The residents are treated as individuals and with the utmost respect. It has a friendly, homely feeling and I am very happy that my Aunt is so well looked after. The board have held regular zoom calls for relatives during the pandemic so that relatives can be kept up to date with any news and answer any questions.
My aunt lived in Avenue House for five years at the end of her life, and it was one of the happiest times of her whole. Staff and fellow residents were friendly, supportive, and always treated her with respect and kindness. Volunteers and visitors also help make it a very social environment - from musical afternoons to trips out to the theatre. For one of the first times in her life, she felt part of a real community. In her final illness, staff were hugely caring and attentive, both to her and the family. I can't recommend Avenue House highly enough.
My mother-in-law cannot use the phone independently, so regular contact with the staff and trustees during the Covid lockdown situation has been very important to us. We recognise the extra efforts the staff have had to put in to keep residents safe during this difficult time and provide activities to keep them engaged. The lovely new Garden House has meant we have been able to see our relative regularly between lockdowns, etc, in a relaxed environment.
I'm most impressed with the care and dedication of the staff of Avenue House. It has been a difficult time recently, but staff have always stepped up to the plate. She has been happy with the support she has received and has enjoyed the activities in which she has participated.
Avenue House is a wonderful place with very professional and dedicated care staff. My mother is only in her 70s and we would never have expected her to be living in a care home but after a long period of ill health, she was left with little option and understandably felt bleak at the prospect. After several months at Avenue House, she has a new lease of life and despite still coping with pain and mobility challenges she is back to her positive and spirited self. I cannot thank the Avenue House team enough. The way they have managed Covid-19 has been amazing too, with regular communication and a beautiful garden house built for safe visiting.
My mother was treated very well by all the staff and made to feel very welcome. Both staff and residents went out of their way to make my mother welcome. My mother said she felt safe which made me feel it was the ideal place for her to be a resident. She enjoys the food, various activities and feels that she is part of one big happy family.
My mother came in February 2019. Both she and I have been delighted by the quality of the service and the care and attention to detail. The staff work very hard and there is an excellent programme of activities. The food and care are of very high quality. I am delighted with it.
With a very cheerful and welcoming motivated team, Avenue House is a unique care home. It is genuinely a 'home from home' environment where each resident is treated as an individual. Literally, nothing is too much trouble for the dedicated staff. Unlimited visiting hours allow us to see my mum whenever we wish. Outstanding range of activities and stimulating events but total respect for privacy.
I know she will be happy here for a long time to come!
Thank you Lord that I am now living here. I am so well looked after, in fact absolutely love it here.

We are proud to be Trustees of such a high-quality service and hope you decide to choose us for your future care and housing needs. In return, we can promise you a high quality, personalised stay with us, provided by very dedicated and skilled staff.

My name is Caroline and I am the registered manager at WEFHS. I have over 20 years of experience running homes and am dedicated to providing the highest possible standards. I am really proud of our dedicated staff, shown by the fact we have staff that have been with us for years, allowing real relationships to develop.
