Mum moved into Cleeve Lodge three months ago and in this time I can see that she is more herself again. She settled in well due to the lovely caring staff and she has made new friends. You are welcomed to spend quality time with your loved ones. It has given me great peace knowing she is well cared for 24/7.

Reply from Helen Haughton, Operations Manager at Cleeve Lodge Residential Care Home

What a lovely review, thank you. I am glad that she is settling in well and that this move has been positive for both you and Mum.

My mother received fantastically supportive care over the last 2 years of her life. Despite her being unwilling to leave her room the staff did all they could to meet her mental + physical needs. They worked tirelessly to engage with her. I could not have asked for better end of life care. Her final 2 weeks were compassionate + dignified. Her comfort was their biggest priority This is truly a caring + loving environment. Residents are all part of an amazing family, care is expensive, but so very worth it.

My dad spent the last 6 weeks of his life at Cleeve Lodge. I would like to thank the staff and in particular the manager who always made us feel welcome as a family when we would visit Dad/Grandad. She was great at keeping us up to date and was always easy to communicate with. Dads room was lovely and airy and the front living room was a lovely space with sunlight and a homely feel. I was relieved my dad was safe and well cared for. Thankyou. X

Mum stayed with you following discharge from hospital, for approx 3 weeks. Staff were so kind and accommodating and mum felt the food was very good. Mum did't join in very much, she likes her own company, so can't really comment on them.

Cleeve, it's very homely and clean, and most staff are kind and caring, but mum knows the ones that are not, and I have noticed too. My mum has had Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was 46. Mum gets anxious and has had pain in her life for a long time. Nights can be a problem for her, she gets confused. Night staff are not very caring or kind. These staff work the day too, and I've noticed there care! Mum has been in Cleeve since May. She had a stroke. Since mum has been in Cleeve, she has had 4 falls, 2 of her own doing. Each time one happens, I notice a bit of my mum disappear! And I wonder what will happen the next time, it's these staff that let the home down, sorry to the kind and caring ones.

Reply from Josie Dalli, Director at Cleeve Lodge Residential Care Home

We know how hard it is to watch someone decline through dementia and as we have said in our many meetings, we can minimise the risk of falling but there is no perfect balance between some independent mobility and the risk of occasional falls and no care home can stop falls happening totally. As we...

Dad has just had 2 weeks respite after a hospital stay & it did him the world of good. Has been social, going for walks, taking part in the activities much more interactive than he had been at home previously.

Mum moved into Cleeve Lodge approximately in March after living independently for almost 91 years. As mum's daughter, she would bed me not to ever put her in a home. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned and mum's mobility was failing which in turn meant she had frequent falls and was sustaining some awful injuries. Mum never ever wanted to go into a care home and would plead me to keep her in her home. Sadly this wasn't possible so we were lucky to get a lovely room in Cleeve Lodge. It has been the making of mum and she has never looked back. Her confidence is so much better and she is able to go up and down in the lift to her room, independently as many times as she wishes. She has made lots of friends, this being a major problem for mum when she lived only - desperate to see people. My honest review of Cleeve Lodge is one of a home full of angels, cannot fault the staff in any way. and they will do anything without making any fuss and it is done quickly. Also, the doctor is called so quickly should there be any concerns, however trivial it may seem. Mum has said that this is her home now and she won't ever go back to her former home. I believe this speaks for itself - excellent.

Mum is very happy here - the staff are lovely and take great care of her - she was very reluctant to go into a care home but she loved it here and wouldn't want to go home. I have offered to take her 'home' but she simply isn't interested.

If you want the stress taken out of where you can find a kind and loving care home for your loved one in the Bristol/Staple Hill area then look no further than Cleeve Lodge Downend.
As a family who does not live in the area, we didn't know who to turn to when an emergency care decision had to be made.
From the moment we randomly contacted Cleeve Lodge, we had a good feeling. The staff were extremely helpful, no questions went unanswered. When it came to the time our loved one made the move to Cleeve Lodge, everything was taken care of. The staff dealt with the transition with kindness and dignity at the forefront.
The move was earlier in the year and the change in our loved ones and the care they have received is almost beyond words. They are happy, clean, tidy, and above all thriving.
Please don't hesitate to call Cleeve Lodge or drop in and visit, everyone is made so welcome.

We are all so grateful to the wonderful team. Thank you all.

All is very satisfactory and Mum is happy which is the main thing. Her personal care is an issue as a lot of times mum has dirty clothes on as do a lot of the other service providers, they could go out more often and a lot of times her mobile is flat and I have to search for a charger. The food is basic but I guess that is what they like choice of sausage and chips or scampi and chips as the main meal of the day. I would like to see more fruit instead of cake.

Thanks for all your very useful feedback. Risa JobbinsJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2008

I am Cerisa, known as Risa, Registered Manager at Cleeve Lodge Residential Home in Downend. We care for adults over the age of 65 who require support with their daily living or who simply require companionship.

I first started working in care in 1998 and moved to Cleeve Lodge in 2008. I have NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Health & Social Care and recently achieved my Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management.

Outside of work, I live with my husband and three teenage children. My household is very busy and noisy with my children and two dogs but I wouldn't change it for anything. My children forever make me smile.

The most important lesson that I have learnt has been that working in a team achieves much more than working in isolation. The best piece of advice that I was once given was to believe in myself as I can achieve great things.

I am Helen Haughton, I support the Homes in the Kew Care Group as Operations Manager. I started working in health & social care in 2001 when I graduated from Cardiff University and joined Kew Care Group in 2008.
