It’s the team at St Breock, who are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, which make this home special. The home is thriving, with so many activities and experiences which bring such joy.

Run by a manager who has been there for over 16 years and a deputy of over 10 years, the team provide residential and dementia care, and respite care breaks. These can be booked in advance, so are ideal for family carers who would like to plan a short break, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

The team are passionate about keeping those community connections alive. There are regular entertainers, musicians, and music from the Forget-me-Not Chorus. And to honour a special tradition in Padstow, every year they organise an incredible ‘Obby Oss Strike Up’ festival in the home, with folk singers, musicians and dancers in traditional regalia.

The home even enlisted the help of local school children with its garden revamp, who listened to what the residents wanted, and created some very special designs for judging.

St Breock is in a picturesque hilltop location, with beautiful views across Wadebridge. There are so many places for the residents to enjoy, from trips along the riverside Camel Trail, to ice cream parlours and cafés, and spending time volunteering with the town’s community garden project.

This summer the team took a group of residents for a day out at the Royal Cornwall Show, where they enjoyed everything from tasting cider to paintball gun targets!

St Breock is an immaculate home. In the dining room, residents enjoy delicious, home cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, and home baking for afternoon tea.

There is a welcoming conservatory overlooking the garden, where residents can enjoy activities, spending time with loved ones, or enjoy singalongs with the piano and a hairdressing room, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser.

My Aunt is in her 90's she has been in full time care at St Breock for 18 month's. On admission she was in poor health and struggled with the transition from living independantly in her own home to living in the care home. The first 6 months were pretty tough for all concerned and to be honest I
did question wether or not we had made the correct decision by putting my Aunt into care at St Breock. My concerns were put to rest as my Aunts health and wellbeing started to improve which is predominantley a direct result of the overall care and attention she has received at St Breock.
I fully endorse the comments other reviewers have made about the calibre of the the staff and the overall good performance of the home. Communication is also very good, with phone, texts and emails used to good effect keeping us informed. We all want our loved ones to be safe, happy and well cared for and that is exactly what St Breock Care Home delivers every day for those they care for.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Reviews team at St Breock Residential Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience. We understand how difficult that transition can be, and we're so pleased to hear your aunt's health and wellbeing have improved. Your kind words about our team and communication mean a great deal.

The care and compassion shown to my grandad has been outstanding. Every member of staff has treated him with dignity, patience, and genuine kindness, which has given our whole family real peace of mind.

The home is always welcoming and clean, and it's clear that the residents are truly cared for.

The staff take the time to get to know each person individually, and my grandad is always spoken to with warmth and respect.

The staff are warm, attentive,

Both of my parents are residents of St Breock care home and I've found the whole experience of them moving in very positive.
The staff clearly care about their work and have worked hard to ensure that my parents need are met and that they are enjoying a quality of life that they deserve, they are being
treated with dignity and respect at all times.
Not only are my parents looked after but I and my siblings have also received a lot of time, care and attention from the staff and management which has ensured that at an emotional time for all involved their move into residential care has been smooth and painless.
Overall I cannot recommend them enough.

We looked to put my Mother into a care home over the Christmas period for respite. We did our research and decided upon St Breock in Wadebridge. Our first impression was that it wa a little dated, however that was where the negativity ended. The management team couldn't have done enough to prepare us
for my mother's stay. The establishment is very organised and professionally run. There are an abundance of staff who are very friendly and helpful. My experience from reception through the inner workings of the home, was exemplary. my mother loved her time at St Breock. I would like t thank each and every one of the team for the excellent care and attention they provided. From top to bottom - a team to be proud of. A big thank you.

I was last at St Breock Care Home for my mum's 95th birthday, and the staff could not have been kinder or more welcoming. Every time I have visited, I've been struck by how gentle the staff are and how much they care about the residents. The place is always clean and warm, and friendly. My mum loves
the staff and the food.

I joined my father on Saturday 20th for an early Father's Day meal.It had been cooked by the lovely Nicky. The meal was a delicious homemade beef pie, mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy. For pudding we had homemade bread and butter pudding. My dad ate the whole meal which he thoroughly enjoyed it.
The meal was beautiful presented on warm plates as well as the food still being hot. A huge compliment to the cook Nicky for such a delicious meal

My husband was at St Breock for 5 days. He clearly enjoyed his stay, took part in activities and was well fed. It seems the staff enjoyed having him there and it provided me with a very much needed rest. I found all the staff helpful, kind and attentive and had no qualms at all about leaving him for
his short holiday from me! I would very gladly have him enjoy a week at St Breock every few months.

St Breock hosted a Mother's Day lunch and family were invited. The dining room was laid out so beautifully with roses and place settings. The staff gave us a proper restaurant experience and the roat and crumble were delicious. It was such a good idea as it is often difficult to get out for a meal.

This is my last review of St Breock Care Home, my dear friend has gone to pick up leaves in another garden. She was with you for nearly 4 years and you made her feel happy and safe immediately, you helped her make it her home and part of an extended family. She laughed a lot, caused havoc occasionally
and towards the end became very ill, but you carried on with excellent care. If you are looking for residential care that is safe and secure for a loved one, look no further, you won't find better. Don't look at the building, it is improving, it's the care that is important. Talk to the whole team, carers, housekeepers, caterers and entertainment, they are all there, working together with one aim, to care. I thank you all for the well-being, comfort and dignity you gave to her and the kindness and support extended to us.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.864)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.864) out of 10 for St Breock Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.864 for St Breock Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (271 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 308 Ratings = 4.864
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Breock Residential Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
