Unfortunately this will be my final review on Pengover Care Home as my mother passed away in April after spending three happy years in Pengover. Her care during that time was amazing and I would recommend anyone whose family member needs to go into care that Pengover would be a fantastic place for them. It has always been a pleasure to visit several times a week, which I will miss.

Since the day my mother moved into Pengover, she has had the most wonderful care and treated with the utmost dignity. All the staff are truly kind, considerate and understanding not only to my mother but I have witnessed they are like this with all their residents. The home itself is kept very clean and every time I visit my mother, she is always dressed well, hair is clean as well as her clothes. She is happy and enjoys the activities by the two co-ordinators (who do an excellent job).
Very pleased with the any updates given by the nursing staff .
All the staff are very helpful and friendly and are doing an excellent job given the sometimes, challenging conditions.

It is very comforting to know that she is getting the best care from some genuinely lovely staff.

From day one, four months ago, to today, the care and consideration received from all of the staff, from all areas, has been amazing. The care to us as visitors is also very caring and considerate. A joyous atmosphere in what is a challenging time of life. The food looks amazing and is plentiful. Thank you all so very much.

As a visitor to my friend and neighbour, who has recently moved into this care home, I have to say that it is an absolute pleasure to go there every week. All the staff who I have met so far have been really lovely, helpful and friendly, and I have been offered a hot drink each time. The whole atmosphere is warm and happy and just feels as if the residents and staff are one big family. My friend has been welcomed and included in all the activities, which she is enjoying. She also enjoys the general comings and goings of everyday life there. I am unable to rate the rooms, food and drink or value for money categories below as of yet, I don't know, but I have no doubt that they would also rate highly. My friend is so much happier now that she is there.

I stayed at Pengover House, Liskeard for 1 week's respite care. The staff were wonderful. They were very caring and sensitive to my needs; I couldn't have received anything better. The food was excellent, and drinks always available. Pengover House is somewhere I would consider visiting again. It is a very bright and happy place. The staff always have a smile on their faces. Thank you Pengover House.

My sister-in-law was at Pengover for only a short time (palliative care). The nursing care was absolutely top notch - they were absolutely on it when it came to adjusting her syringe driver and deciding on top-up medications as necessary to keep her comfortable in her final days. The whole team were fabulous, very caring and attentive and together they did a wonderful job of looking after her (and us), bless them. Nothing was too much trouble and we really couldn't have asked for better care. They were always smiley and lovely, and made us very welcome (including our dog), night and day . We were so glad she came to Pengover!

My husband has been a resident at Pengover House for the last 8 months. I have always found the staff so obliging and helpful; nothing is too much trouble for them. I feel very comfortable asking any questions concerning my husband's care. The Pengover is spot on with cleanliness and food, which is very good and varied. The staff always keeps me informed of any change in medication or any change in his health. I feel happy to know he is well cared for.

My mum has been a resident for three weeks so far. From what I have seen, the staff are incredible. They have been very supportive of Mum and of me. I have found it particularly difficult to let go, but they have really helped me. I haven't met anyone who isn't kind, caring and smiling.

I have found the standard of care in Pengover excellent. The home is kept spotlessly clean, the staff are really lovely and there are so many activities laid on for residents. There are fall alarms in each room and the staff always attend to these promptly when triggered (even if only by my dogs who are always welcome which is a great comfort to my mother). I know I can rest assured that she will always be looked after properly and genuinely respected and cherished by this amazing team! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My brother has been in Pengover for just over 8 weeks. He has settled in and is happy there. The staff are very good and friendly. I've had lunch with him and the food is very good. My brother has made friends with a few of the residents and also participates in the arts and crafts sessions which he has never done before. I would recommend Pengover to anyone.

Mum went into Pengover House in August 2019, originally for respite, but was so settled from day one that it was in her best interests to stay after my father passing away. During COVID and with the block on visiting my mum's dementia deteriorated at a noticeable rate, due mainly to the lack of interaction from family. From the first day we were welcomed as part of the great big Pengover family. Mum was always treated with dignity and care. Staff have come and gone and with every new face comes an input of energy and enthusiasm. The staff have always been very approachable, understanding and compassionate to her needs. Before my mum passed away, care staff, domestic and laundry staff would sit with her often singing and chatting away so that she wasn’t on her own. This goes above and beyond and is the true meaning of teamwork. The staff do a wonderful job. The only negative is that there is no reception desk at the entrance and are left standing at the door as care staff too busy.

My wife is very well supported and treated with dignity and has been ever since she joined the care home. The staff who look after her are magnificent in their attention to detail and also in their reporting of her condition. I have absolute praise for the way in which the staff behave towards my dear wife and would not wish her to be anywhere else. The facilities are extremely good. The place is immaculately clean. The food and drink are supplied by the chef and other members of staff. And it is very high in its quality. The safety and security of the home is immaculate. The staff and management are extremely committed and their experience is without a doubt very far advanced. The room which she is in is always neat and tidy. The activities do occur, but I wish there were more of them. And if this could be part of the ongoing program. there has been a gap in the activities role because of staff illness and I hope that this will be remedied soon.

Dementia patient who needed supervision, whom twice I found fully clothed in bed and when she left the home after 6 weeks had no bra on and most days no pop socks or socks (although available in her room). She left with two unopened boxes of pop socks. She always wore them at home!
All night clothes and numerous underwear items missing when she left, plus 'most' of her clothes and a pair of slippers (luckily bought new ones whilst there).
Discovered, when she left, the same tube of toothpaste brought in was hardly used. Explanation? No other toothpaste in the room whenever I visited.
Seemed to be very little activities arranged during her time there and I visited all times of the day.
Staff were on the whole friendly and hard working!

Food was excellent!

Amy LucasJob Title:ManagerJoined: 2002

I started my journey in 2002 working at Pengover as a care assistant then progressing to senior care assistant after completing my degree in Psychology.

As I grew into my role an opportunity to become a Deputy Manager came up and I was fortunate to apply and was successful. I worked closely with the Manager, learning more skills to ensure that Pengover, the clients, staff and family members felt valued and respected.

I remained in the role of Deputy for five years, during this time I completed my Operations Departmental Management CMI level 5. This opportunity gave me insight not only into myself but also into Management style and leadership styles.

In 2022 I applied for and was successful in the role of registered Manager. I continue to learn, I feel that learning and evolving are never-ending.

I am passionate about Pengover, the clients we care for, the staff we support and the families that visit their loved ones.

I believe that Pengover is a home, not only for the clients we care for but also for

staff, family members and visitors.
