My mother has been in the home for six months now and has settled really well. The home is full of light and always lovely flowers and happy people. It is easy to visit and feel welcome anytime. My mother loves the staff and food. All the staff are friendly and have time to chat if needed. It is a very
homely feel. Meal times, everybody sits together and has lovely serviettes and flowers on the tables. Mum has been out late a few times and the night staff are wonderful and happy to make her a drink if she is not ready for bed. I feel she is very safe and surrounded by love.

I’m very happy with the way my mother is looked after, and I’m always welcomed by the staff. Mum has been at Bishopsteignton House for nearly three years, and she is always pleased to see me. It is great for my brother and my sisters to know Mum is happy and well looked after.

My Mum has been in Bishopsteignton House for almost 3 years and although she suffers from dementia, is registered blind and is very hard of hearing we are confident she is safe and comfortable.
The home has a full schedule of activities. Sadly Mum is often reluctant to join in but the staff always
try to include her.
The staff are really kind and easy to talk to.

Bishopsteignton House was like home from home. As soon as we entered the building we knew it was the right place for my dad. My dad has strived from strength to strength. He has found a whole new lease of life. The manager and her team went really above and beyond to meet our family's needs.

My husband and I have been here for some months. Sadly, my husband died and I am still here. The carers and other staff have been so kind and generous with the care they showed him and he always so appreciated what they did for him and for myself also. At any time of the day, there was always help and
care. Everything was always spotless. Our rooms were always clean and comfortable and certainly warm. No one could have cared for my husband and me as these carers have done. Always cheerful even though they were tired. The food here was great and always hot, we enjoyed it all. We also had lovely grounds and views which was relaxing and a pleasure to be in.

My mother has lived at Bishopsteignton House Care Home for approximately one and a half years and I have noticed a marked improvement in her health and well-being over that time. She is very happy at Bishopsteignton House and has settled in well. Part of the appeal of the home is the small size - there
are only about thirty residents at any one time which makes the place feel like a big family rather than a faceless institution. The staff are amazing and seem to have a genuine affection for the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and a sense of happiness pervades the house. The gardens and wonderful views are a bonus! My mother and I are both so pleased that she was able to get a place at Bishopsteignton House and couldn't think of a better place.

My auntie came into Bishopsteignton House in September 22 after a very bad fall and a stay in the hospital which then resulted in an (unsafe discharge) back to her home from the hospital with Covid. It was clear as soon as she came home that she needed respite care and recuperation from a dedicated
team of professionals and how lucky was she that Bishopsteignton House could take her. I strongly believe that if it wasn't for the care and compassion of the staff and the surroundings, I would have lost my auntie.
The care home has a brilliantly dedicated team of people that really do care for the individuals that are staying with them. They take the time to get to know people, and you can tell as soon as you walk in there is a real caring atmosphere.
The rooms and surroundings are exceptionally clean and tidy, and according to my auntie, she cannot fault the food in any way.

I felt compelled to write a review for the incredible care my grandad received at Bishopsteignton House Care Home. My grandad who, at 96, had always been fit and well and unfortunately started to deteriorate rapidly at his home. He started having a lot of falls and was becoming confused. After a lot
of careful consideration, we decided to take him to this home and it turned out to be the best decision we made. The care he received from day one was wonderful. He was a bit worried but that didn't stop him settling into a little routine, making friends with the carers and residents alike and joining in on all the activities. He is happy and thriving and I want to thank the staff for all that they do.

I have been a resident here for nearly six months. In that time my health, well-being but mainly my self-esteem has been given back to me. Bishopsteignton House Care Home is one of, if not, the finest residential care homes I have had the pleasure of knowing (and the last six months living in). The
carers are the most wonderful, compassionate, hardworking people I have ever come across. We have lots of laughs and it is part of a big family. The catering is excellent and the two chefs are very accommodating regarding dietary needs, bravo!

My overall experience with the staff and organisation of Bishopsteignton House has been of a team of patient and caring people who, despite the publicity surrounding the care sector generally, seem to evince a level of interest and dedication beyond what one could confidently expect. Not all the residents
are respectful of their situation and demonstrate a level of awkwardness that must sometimes be difficult to tolerate but I have never seen or heard anything other than patience and understanding from the staff members.

I had a social distanced visit with my grandma in the garden. She looked really well and happy. The staff are very good with how they are coping with the pandemic. They made sure Grandma had her mask on and we sat behind a perspex screen. We also had our mask on.
Grandma was telling us about the fantastic
cook they have who makes beautiful cakes.
I know my grandma is being well looked after.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.983)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.983) out of 10 for Bishopsteignton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.983 for Bishopsteignton House is calculated as follows: ( (283 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.983
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bishopsteignton House is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
