  • Doneraile Residential Care Home, Newton Abbot
Doneraile is a small, intimate residential care home in Newton Abbot for just 23 residents, part of the award-winning Rose Care Group. Its smaller size means the team can offer truly personalised care for people over 60 at sensible, transparent prices, without compromising high standards.

The home is manager-led, with a long-standing staff team, many of whom have been at Doneraile for years. This stability provides familiar faces, genuine trust and staff who know each resident well - their routines, interests and the small details that help them feel comfortable and at ease. The team sees itself as adding to the family’s care, not replacing it, and focuses on the right balance of independence, support and a sense of belonging.

Doneraile is designed to feel homely yet practical. There is a main lounge where residents can chat and socialise, a quiet lounge for reading or one-to-one time, and smaller spaces to relax with visitors or enjoy some peace. A veranda offers safe, open air for a gentle stroll or a cup of tea in the sun. With only 23 residents, shared spaces feel calm and familiar rather than busy. Activities include creative sessions, gentle exercise, games, coffee mornings, live entertainment and visits from the local reverend - always varied, but never forced.

The home supports a range of needs, particularly for those who prefer a less intimidating, more personalised setting. Whether someone simply wants to feel safe, needs help with day-to-day tasks, or is beginning to need extra support with their memory, care is adapted as needs change so residents can remain settled without the disruption of moving home. Doneraile aims to be a place where residents feel known, valued and part of a family. Prospective residents and their families are welcome to visit to see the home and meet the team.

I cannot recommend Doneraile highly enough, it is a well-run home with caring and attentive staff. My father, who has dementia, has lived in the home for over eighteen months now and the staff have always treated him with dignity and respect. It is lovely to see him settled and at ease in his surroundings.
Thank you to all the staff for your hard work and kindness.

I had complete trust in the staff in the last days of my aunt's life. They treated her with dignity and care, with love and gentleness. She was there for 2 years and was very happy. Couldn't recommend them highly enough.

What can I say! Since I came here in November 2017 I have received excellent care from the manager and her staff. Being a diabetic they have ensured I have the right food - as I have no teeth my food is minced - great. During the last six months, I have been in an out of hospital and I was really low,
could or would not eat and felt very tired! However, since I came here I have received excellent care and have been encouraged to eat and sleep. Thus in the last few weeks, I have mixed with other residents have fun with them. I am now able to look after myself - enjoy the radio/reading/puzzles and banter with the staff. Thanks Doneraile.

Doneraile Residential Care Home provides an outstanding service, principally because of the care, energy, imagination and devotion of staff to their tasks. They interact beautifully and appropriately with residents.
They encourage and enable a warm atmosphere with maximum possible interaction with
residents.
They engage openly and positively with residents and relatives. We noticed the happy atmosphere immediately and trusted their care of my mother.

My father receives excellent care at this home. He is 100 years old.
I would not hesitate to recommend Doneraile. I visit him several times a week and have never had any reason to complain about anything.

My friend for 51 years has dementia and moved into Doneraile last November. I have been very impressed with the home. The staff seem very caring, it is clean and they seem to have entertainment.
I do not know what the food is like but my friend says it's very good. She has a very nice, large room,
with two big windows overlooking the garden.
Today is her 87th birthday and they are having a special tea with a big birthday cake.

I have recently moved to Doneraile from my own home as my family live in the States. My room is lovely and light with several of my own plants to look out onto and enjoy. The staff are very caring and I enjoy the meals. My visitors are always welcomed.

I cannot praise the staff of Doneraile enough. My mother lived there for just under four years she passed away in February aged 98. They go out of their way to do anything for her or myself. She enjoyed her time there and the staff would have a joke with her and she with them. After she passed away,
all the staff and owner's said she would be missed.

I regularly took my father to visit his sister (my aunt) at Doneraile. We were always impressed by the level of care and the ambience for the residents. The staff were always polite, friendly, helpful and welcoming, and more importantly, my aunt always expressed to us how happy she was there and how
she was being well looked after. We and other family members were also promptly informed by the management regarding any health concerns or development, which they dealt with appropriately.

I am a relative of one of the residents at Doneraile, she is very happy and very well cared for. The manager is very caring and that goes for all the staff too. I went to visit my relative on a day which there was a man singing and the staff were also singing and dancing too. All the residents were
really enjoying themselves. I'm always welcomed by friendly staff and offered tea, coffee and biscuits. I'm very happy to recommend Doneraile Care Home and their excellent caring staff.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.861) out of 10 for Doneraile Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.861 for Doneraile Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (237 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.861
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Doneraile Residential Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
