Rose Lodge Care Home offers specialist dementia care in Exmouth and has two small communities (around 16 residents in each) for people living with dementia.

The cottage is designed for people with early to mid-stage dementia and the lodge is designed for people with mid to late-stage dementia.

The two communities have a similar look and feel, to ease any moves between the communities. The home's design and decoration support independence and encourage active and sociable lives. Rose Lodge has generous terraces and gardens which residents are encouraged to use.

By having two communities on the same site, Rose Lodge ensure that residents live with people at a similar stage of dementia and this increases well-being and minimises friction between residents. Two activity programmes are tailored to the specific needs of each community.

Living an active and sociable life is essential to the resident's well-being. Activities at Rose Lodge include daily walks and trips in the minibus, weekly fitness classes, dancing, choir, music, arts and crafts, gardening and looking after pets which include a dog, cats, a rabbit, chickens, fish and doves. Residents' pets can usually be accommodated.

Rose Lodge received an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission in 2019, a gold award from Sterling University's Dementia Centre for the design of the cottage in 2016. Rose Lodge has been featured in the Journal of Dementia Care in April 2013 and Devon Life in 2017-2019.

The team at Rose Lodge know how difficult the decision can be to move to a care home. To ease this transition, they offer daycare where people can join the community for one or more days a week, befriend the residents, and join in the daily activity programme. Respite care is also offered, subject to room availability.

My first visit to Rose Lodge left me surprised. Any other care home I have visited in the past looked and felt like a care home. Rose lodge looks and feels like home, offering the care that is needed for the individuals living there. The staff are amazing people, always friendly, calm and doing every
task with a smile.
The atmosphere created helps everyone (residents and staff) feel at ease and cope with everyday challenges. The regular inside and outside activities offered, break daily routines in the most positive way giving vital stimulus to the residents.
I am truly pleased that my dear friend was able to move to Rose Lodge. I cannot imagine a better place for him to be under the circumstances.
A big THANK YOU to all the team.

Mum and dad have been at Rose lodge for a few years now and have been very happy together there.
When dad passed away recently, the staff went out of their way to help and accommodate us.
The staff have always been very caring and helpful, and entertain and engage with the residents, taking them
on trips to the beach and boat trips, animal farms, lots of animal/ pet visits.
There is plenty of entertainment going on with the residents every day ,and are encouraged with craft work / help with cooking/ gardening/and joining in with other festive activities. Our family and freinds enjoy seeing photos and videos on social media as a way of following their outings to the beach/and other interesting places .
There lots of animal and pet interactions /games and music.
Mum is very well looked after and we wouldn't want her to go anywhere else.
The best of the best!

We were so lucky to find Rose Lodge when Mum could no longer live independently, in the 7+ years she lived there, the attention to detail was second to none.
The staff are dedicated and kind and genuinely seem to enjoy being around the residents.
They provide a fantastic range of activities, pitched
to everyone's interests and abilities.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely home to anyone.

Residents are well looked after with a good number of support staff. The home encourages trips outside the lodge, to local craft conference or an ice cream on the beach for those less mobile there are many activities and visits including a whole menagerie of furry animals.
The staff do not wear uniform,
increasing the feel of being 'at home' rather than 'in a home'.

Rose Lodge is an amazing care home. The team are dedicated to providing exemplary care for my Mum. They encourage her to join in activities they know she enjoys and respects her wishes when she needs her quiet time. We always receive a warm welcome when we visit Mum and the environment is uplifting.
I cannot thank the team enough for the wonderful care and support they give to Mum.

Rose Lodge care Home is excellent in every respect.
My mother has dementia, but is physical very active. Other care providers could not look after her needs. She is pretty rude to the other residents as they are less mobile than she is. So the staff here step in and take her out regularly on a 1 on
1 basis. She has been taken horse riding (a great passion of her's) and multiple trips to the beach and shops. We speak by video call regularly, which is another great service they supply.

Excellent care home, doing a fantastic job with my mother who has quite serious dementia. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff really don't seem to mind spending a lot of one to one time with individuals such as my mother. When she expressed some nostalgia for riding, they took her out to the local
stables to take a horse out. They constantly organise trips and excursions as well as activities to keep their residents engaged and enjoying every day. Very highly recommended.

My sister has been in Rose Lodge for 3 months. We very quickly saw a change in her from being withdrawn and quiet. Although her Alzheimer's is progressing, she began to enjoy life again and engage in all the varied activities and many trips out. All the staff are extremely good and treat residents and
visitors as if they are all one family.
Residents are treated with compassion and dignity and clearly love their jobs.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Rose Lodge as a first class dementia Home.

Myself and my brothers visit a few times a week. My dad is very happy now he has settled in and likes most of the carers. They treat him with dignity and also have a laugh with him too. He really enjoys the food and is eating a more varied diet at Rose Lodge than the previous home. There are lots of
outings for the residents and activities, although dad doesnt participate in many of them. He would prefer to have more walks but there are not always enough carers to do this. It is a relaxed feel to the home and no rigid mealtimes.

I worked in a large number of Care Homes in the Midlands as a trainer for 14 years. In all that time I never came across a Home as amazing as Rose Lodge. Because of my experience, when it came to chosing a Home for my sister with Alzheimer's, I knew exactly what I was looking for. Rose Lodge had
everything and more! In fact it exceeded my requirements and expectations on every level. The staff are wonderful, led by excellent managers. They are knowledgeable, caring, flexible, fun and everyone is treated as an individual, and with dignity and respect. They regularly take those able to go out to some lovely places and do outside activities with them. They have a selection of providers coming into the Home almost daily, plus the staff do arts, crafts, cooking, games and puzzles with them, as well as every day jobs like peeling vegetables and folding laundry.
They really feel like a family, where every member is loved, and I am so happy that I found such a wonderful home for my sister

You do so many fabulous activities from singing to tennis, crafts, trips out - she is truly stimulated and so very cared for. The staff are just brilliant, you all genuinely care and are really dedicated

Rose Lodge has been perfect. We looked at our 20 possible care homes fr mum before we first came to Rose Lodge. And from that first visit we knew that this was the place. The care team are exceptional - everyone has time and patience, and they support mum and all her needs with care, respect and love.
The facilities are just right and Rose Lodge always feels like a home from home. Thank you so much for everything you do.

I cannot tell you happy I am with the care given to my Mother at Rose Lodge. This is a care home like no other. The kindness and respect afforded the residents is off the scale. This place is more than a care home, it is a community. It has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, and feels completely unclinical,
even though I know the clinical care is second to none.
On my mother's birthday they put up balloons, made her a cake, and gave her presents! So thoughtful.
Every week they hold activities, even taking the residents on a Stuart line cruise!
The staff are dedicated, kind and caring to both the residents, and visitors. Nothing seems like too much
The management team is fantastic, and it shows as all the carers seem so dedicated in their jobs.
I am so happy that my mother is at Rose Lodge, and thank you for looking after her so lovingly.

Bringing my husband into Care after having himĀ  at home for 7 years with Alzheimer's and dementia was very daunting. My husband had enjoyed a busy and active outdoor life. Fortunately with the exceptional care at Rose Lodge he settled down and enjoyed the beautiful garden ,varied activities and outings
,good food and the cake also other treats ! There was always a smiling face and company to jolly him through his difficult moments and settle him down. I looked forward to visiting and sharing the delicious meals and friendship of all the staff and other relatives.
I was confident to leave him embraced by the Rose Lodge Family sadly he died in peace with family around him and with superb care at Rose Lodge

My mother has Alzheimers and has been resident at Rose Lodge about 7 years. During this time the staff team have remained mostly the same, bringing consistency to mum's care and reassurance to us, that her personality, her preferences and needs are well known and well managed. As her functioning has
declined we have been kept well informed of any changes and we feel contained and comforted knowing staff have her best interests central to any decision making regarding her day to day and long term care. We are always warmly welcomed, the environment feels personal and the activities are varied. I cannot thank the team enough for the peace of mind they bring to our family and the professionalism they show in their interactions with mum and with us. It is a difficult journey to witness but I wouldn't wish her anywhere else because I genuinely feel they love her like a family

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.805)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.805) out of 10 for Rose Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Rose Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (388 Excellents x 5) + (87 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 478 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rose Lodge is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
