Rose Lodge Care Home offers specialist dementia care in Exmouth and has two small communities (around 16 residents in each) for people living with dementia.

The cottage is designed for people with early to mid-stage dementia and the lodge is designed for people with mid to late-stage dementia.

The two communities have a similar look and feel, to ease any moves between the communities. The home's design and decoration support independence and encourage active and sociable lives. Rose Lodge has generous terraces and gardens which residents are encouraged to use.

By having two communities on the same site, Rose Lodge ensure that residents live with people at a similar stage of dementia and this increases well-being and minimises friction between residents. Two activity programmes are tailored to the specific needs of each community.

Living an active and sociable life is essential to the resident's well-being. Activities at Rose Lodge include daily walks and trips in the minibus, weekly fitness classes, dancing, choir, music, arts and crafts, gardening and looking after pets which include a dog, cats, a rabbit, chickens, fish and doves. Residents' pets can usually be accommodated.

Rose Lodge received an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission in 2019, a gold award from Sterling University's Dementia Centre for the design of the cottage in 2016. Rose Lodge has been featured in the Journal of Dementia Care in April 2013 and Devon Life in 2017-2019.

The team at Rose Lodge know how difficult the decision can be to move to a care home. To ease this transition, they offer daycare where people can join the community for one or more days a week, befriend the residents, and join in the daily activity programme. Respite care is also offered, subject to room availability.

My Dad moved to Rose Lodge after we were told that the care home he was in could 'no longer meet his needs.'. While horribly stressful at the time, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he is so much happier at Rose Lodge. An atmosphere of warmth and kindness permeates the place. Residents are
treated as individuals, and every effort is made to stimulate and entertain, as well as look after physical needs. It honestly feels like a home from home and our family is so grateful that Dad is settled and happy there. He couldn't be in a better place.

Very kind and caring. Nice range of activities but what really makes Rose Lodge stand out is the level of personalised care and kindness. The only difficulty is that the phone system is very poor. Calls to Rose Lodge are frequently interrupted through a poor signal that never seems to be fixed.

I can't stress highly enough how great the staff at Rose Lodge are with Mum. She's treated with care and dignity. There are plenty of activities that all the residents can join in with that stimulate both the mind and body.

More than one year on I still believe my mother is in the right place for her. Access to the outside and opportunities to venture further are very important to her, as are caring, friendly staff, ready to have a joke, and stimulating activities along with time sitting in the sun with a friend. I cannot thank all the staff at Rose Lodge enough for all the personal and emotional care Mum received during her stay as a resident in the cottage. All her care was delivered with total compassion, dignity and love. Sadly Mum passed at the beginning of June, our experience of all the staff's attention
to Mum's changing needs was with the utmost professionalism and care. Nothing was too much trouble to help care for Mum, be it equipment, extra care or advice from healthcare professionals. As a family, we could visit at any time and were always welcomed with friendly faces, offered drinks, food and time to talk. Social outings, animal and music therapies, cooking, crafts and keep-fit sessions all greatly contributed to Mum's engagement and enjoy her last few months. Having her hair and nails looked after weekly was so important to her well-being. Rose Lodge family provided all these wonderful experiences that we would not been able to at home. Thank you Rose Lodge for caring for our mum and for the compassion and love you showed us at the end.

My wife has been a resident for seven years and I have been visiting regularly for the last seven years. Always made welcome during my visits. My partner is looked after very well. I am kept updated on her behaviour and health on a frequent basis. The food provided is varied and plentiful. External visits are frequent. Overall most impressed!

My mum has been with Rose Lodge for just over 3 years now and she has been looked after by the fabulous carers who go out of their way to support and care for her. Activities are fun and regular which is a must with dementia. Cleanliness is important and the home is always clean. I try and visit mum
daily and I’m always welcomed with warmth and smiles.
The downside of Rose Lodge is the ‘food’. For 3 years now I have met with the admin staff and discussed a way forward to improve the quality of food served but it has now become impossible. Please Rose Lodge put into action a plan for improvement.

There is an action plan in place and the manager is closely monitoring the quality. Your input into us making improvements is always important to us and we value your comments on how you think we can ensure we maintain the highest quality of care that has been outstanding for the last 4 years. The manager has an open-door policy and meets with relatives on an ad-hoc daily basis as much as she can. Rose Lodge is a very friendly and welcoming home. The atmosphere is so welcoming and you are greeted with such warmth by all members of staff. The residents are all treated as individuals. The entertainment is varied and enjoyable, as well as the activities. Visitors socialise with each other and the
residents are not isolated, as we all get to know everyone. When I visit with friends or family, they all say they have never seen a home like it; excellent.

I always receive a positive welcome when I visit Rose Lodge. The staff are very knowledgeable with matters relating to the residents and are willing to investigate further if required. In recent time, a newsletter is now available, which gives all the opportunity to attend various events accordingly.
The care submitted by the staff has to be seen to be believed and is always administered in a professional manner at all times. As a family, I can say with confidence that we are very pleased with all aspects of Rose Lodge and the professional service they provide.

I have been very impressed with all aspects of care that my mother has received at Rose Lodge. The management team were extremely helpful and reassuring when we were arranging mums move into the home. Rose Lodge has a lovely vibrant yet homely atmosphere and I am confident in the care that my mum receives.

My dad is in the advanced stages of Alzheimers and was in a very poor state of physical and mental health when he arrived at Rose Lodge some eighteen months ago. The improvement we saw in him within days of his arrival was quite incredible. This is down to the outstanding staff that were there. They
are genuinely caring and kind and are always so calm and professional in all situations. All my family agree when we say "he couldn't be in a better place" - Thank you.

They do a fantastic job at Roselodge looking after my father. He has his own room and also can mix with others throughout the day if he wishes. There is always something going on in Rose Lodge ie games, music, TV, and people coming in to visit them.

Rose Lodge is a very good care home our mother has lived there for over 5 1/2 years now and many of the staff are still familiar, friendly, reassuring and kind faces. Mum has dementia and can be inclined to be self-isolating but she is encouraged to be a part of everyday life in a kind and caring environment.
It is a home from home and we feel fortunate to have it on our doorstep.

Rose Lodge remains an excellent care home for my aunt. I am forever impressed with the large number of staff to residents ratio. There are no negatives and the all-inclusive monthly fees make it very well priced too.

Rose Lodge came highly recommended and it certainly has not disappointed. My mum has been a resident for nearly 3 years and her dementia journey has not been an easy one. However, the management and staff have been exemplary in looking after her and attending to her care needs every step of the way.
Now that she is in the latter stages of dementia, the staff also have my well-being and my siblings at heart. They keep me fully up to date on mum's health condition and recently provided me with facilities that allowed me to stay the night with mum when it was necessary.
Mum is still always included in many of the varied activities where possible that the home provides, and her food is freshly cooked to suit her dietary requirements.
Having to put a loved one into a care home is never an easy task. However, I will always be truly grateful for the day I got the call offering mum a room. Nothing really is too much for the staff and family values are very much the essence of Rose Lodge.

Kind, caring home. Clean and friendly. The only worries are that mother's carers either forget to put in her hearing aids regularly or put in her hearing aids without checking that the batteries work, which leaves her virtually deaf. She also does not like the food otherwise care is exemplary. Staff

The time came for my husband to move into care and I could not have found a better place than Rose Lodge. The care he receives is excellent. The staff are cheerful and patient and interested in him as an individual which makes Rose Lodge a happy place. They encourage him to join in the many varied activities
and go the extra mile to celebrate special occasions. I also appreciate the care taken to keep everyone covid free and visiting is pleasant in his spacious room.

Andrea Luxton-Keough

Andrea lives in Exmouth, she has over 20 years of experience supporting people who are living with dementia.


Andrea has a BSc Hons Degree in Dementia Studies and an RMA L4. In 2019, Andrea completed an eight-day course in Birmingham with Meaningful Care Matters in the planning, design and facilitation of Dementia Care Learning and The Butterfly Project.


Andrea believes that each person has the right to live well, and this happens by putting their emotional needs at the centre of what Rose lodge does.


The people who live in our communities are our family; together we celebrate life, embracing the potential of the here and now, the beauty of the moment and sharing the daily ebb and flow of life.


Rose Lodge is passionate about what we do because we know it works.

Tracey Long

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2015

Tracey has worked at Rose Lodge since 2015. She began her journey as care for the Cottage community and has worked her way up to taking over as Registered Manager in 2021. Tracey has a Level 5 in Leadership in Health and Social Care Management and completed an eight-day course in Birmingham with Meaningful Care Matters in the planning, design and facilitation of Dementia Care Learning.


Tracey shares the same passion and beliefs as Andrea. She believes that everyone has the need to feel loved, valued, and heard and to have a reason to get up in the morning.


In each community, Tracey leads the team in living and working together. There are no barriers, no uniforms, drug trollies, routines or anything that creates a divide between us and our family members.
