The carers and all staff have been amazing since Mum arrived in December 2022 and it has not wavered all this time. The care given was second to none. They couldn't do enough, definitely recommend this brilliant home.
Reply from Yvonne Berry, Director at MallandsThank you very much, I will pass on your compliments to the staff team. It was a pleasure to look after your mum. Best Wishes

My mother could not have been better cared for. The staff were consistently kind, empathetic, patient and generous with their time, both to my mother and myself.

My mother became a resident at The Mallands in June of 2023 amid a period of turmoil in her life; her dementia had caused her to feel her home was not hers, she was scared, not eating or able to care for herself and was leaving her home, seeking help. The team at Mallands helped her settle, got the
measure of her spirit and dementia pretty quickly and risk-managed her leaving the home well, without impeding her or causing her or me stress. She grew into a contented dementia patient there, valued by the team and residents and with their coaxing, very much involved in daily life and socialising.
The care manager was always very aware of and responsive to my communication about her growing needs. When out-of-hours help was needed, this was given swiftly, accurately and without question.
In my mother's last days, the care manager and team were listening, sympathetic advocates, showing how they valued her as a special human being in her own right. This was all so helpful.
Reply from Yvonne Berry, Director at MallandsThank you for your kind words. We thoroughly enjoyed caring for your Mother.

I visit the resident once a week. The staff have always been very helpful towards me and the person I visit. They treat everyone with kindness and patience. The only thing I think could be improved is for care staff with English as their second language to speak more slowly and make sure they are understood
when explaining things e.g. the direction the resident needs to move in.
Reply from Yvonne Berry, Director at MallandsThank you very much for your comments. We will certainly take on board your suggestion. Kind regards.

Mallands care home takes very special care of your loved ones. The staff are just wonderful, attentive to each individual's needs and the atmosphere is always friendly, encouraging and positive. Our mother suffered a severe stroke and overnight had to come to terms with being totally independent to
requiring 24/7, 2-person, personal care. The staff are amazing at keeping her dignity and always have her best interests by keeping her motivated and encouraging her out of bed. They arranged a hydrotherapy session at a local pool where 2 carers took her swimming. This triggered her realisation she still had a life to be enjoyed. The team and manager provide excellent care to all.

My mum only has experience with two care homes, and not naming the other, Mallands is vastly superior. They also looked after my late father for several months. I was able to recommend Mallands to someone who tells me that her father, now a resident, is very happy there. They were also very efficient
during the difficult covid lockdowns.
So to summarise, realistically, Mallands is as good as it gets.

My aunt was resident at Mallands from 2016 until April 2022. She settled in well and the staff were always caring and considerate. I was the main contact for her administrative affairs and I live some 200 miles away. The staff kept me regularly updated and were always available to discuss any areas
of concern, particularly her failing health.
My aunt realised that she needed continuing care and was always positive about her situation. The care home was always bright, spotless and tidy. The challenges of COVID were dealt with very well and I was updated (at least) weekly on how the challenges were being dealt with.
Daily management of the home is most ably led by the care manager who (within reason) was always available to discuss all aspects of my aunt's care.
The family and I could not have wished for a better location for my aunt in her final years.
Reply from Yvonne Berry, Director at MallandsWe will certainly miss your Aunt. She has been a great character here at Mallands. It has been a pleasure to look after her.

My mum was at the care home for 5 and a half years and in all this time I have nothing but praise for the staff. Right from the start, everyone looked after Mum as if she was a member of the family. Nothing was too much trouble. The loving care, kindness and support she received was exceptional. All
the staff were very professional. The management team always kept us fully up to date with information. During lockdown the team did a brilliant job of keeping residents safe from COVID, taking precautions before they became mandatory. When Mum's health deteriorated they were quick to seek advice, get the doctor or call for an ambulance. They provided fantastic nursing care at the end so Mum was able to pass away peacefully in familiar and comforting surroundings with open access for family visiting.
Reply from Yvonne Berry, Director at MallandsThank you very much for your kind words. Your Mum will be missed by us all. We will also miss your Dad visiting. Take Care.

My Mum was deteriorating when she was admitted to Mallands, and all the staff were excellent; they all got to know her and encouraged her to join in the various activities they offer. We were not able to visit due to Covid, however, the staff organised video calls for us when we wanted them.
Unfortunately,
Mum became very poorly quite quickly, and all I can say is she was looked after with kindness and compassion. We were then allowed to see her and be with her during her final days. One lady was with me when Mum passed away, and she was amazing and stayed with Mum and me. Thank you.

My mother lived at Mallands care home for four years before she passed away recently. In all that time, she was treated with dignity, respect and was well-cared for. Lockdown caused a lot of problems for everyone, but I have to say that when Mum had a fall and suddenly deteriorated, the care home manager,
her deputy and her staff were exceptional in her care. Not only did they look after Mum, but they also kept the family informed and involved in all aspects of her wellbeing. We will be eternally grateful to the care home manager and her team. Thank you.

Mallards is an exceptionally well-run, caring residence. My friend always comments on how lovely the staff are and how well he is looked after. Whenever I visit, there is always a warm welcoming feel. It feels (and smells) like a normal home rather than a care home. The residents and rooms always appear
clean and well cared for. It is a pleasure to visit.

This has mainly been excellent. Lots of activities and outings were very popular. The carers all had a wonderful attitude, although I noticed there seemed to be less on duty at weekends and at evening times, before their change over at 8 pm.
The separate coffee room was nice to have a chat with the
resident, rather than in the large sitting room. The bedroom was a bit dark!

Mallands Care looked after my dad very well, the majority of the staff were excellent, really caring and very supportive, kind to my dad and all of us. It was always a nice, happy atmosphere when you walked in. The home was very, very clean always. The manager was amazing, she could not have done any
more for my dad, from the beginning to the end of my dad's life she was always there. I would definitely recommend this home to everyone.

My mother lived at Mallands for 5 years. She was cared for by staff and management extremely well. Every effort was made to make her feel comfortable and to enjoy the many activities organised by Mallands. The meals were excellent and the home always clean. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff,
they took the time to ensure my mother's needs were met. Management were always available for the residents and visiting family members. Having worked in many care homes, I was impressed by the high standards of care and the genuine friendliness of staff who supported the family when my mother was ill and when she dies.

Mum first attended Mallands as a daycare service user and enjoyed the company and activities so much that she decided to become a resident. The carers there made her feel protected and valued. The little problems that had been mountains at home became nothing under the kind and respectful regime at
Mallands. Mum was only at Mallands for a few weeks before she died, but those few weeks were happy and l will always be grateful for their care of my very special Mum.

I cannot praise enough the manager and her care team at Mallands. My mother lived there for about a year up until her death in April 2019. From the moment she arrived at Mallands, she was made to feel at home and valued. Every member of staff greeted residents and visitors with a smile and nothing was
ever too much trouble. The home was always clean and tidy and there were many activities on offer from art and craft to gardening and trips to local attractions were organised on a regular basis. Residents' needs were met quickly and efficiently and there were always many willing helpers to care for them. During her last few days, everything was done to a very high standard to keep her comfortable and maintain her dignity. Thank you very much to all at Mallands, a fantastic care home.

My mother was a resident for almost 17 months during which time she was very well cared for. The care team were extremely hard working under the supervision of a very efficient care manager and showed diligence, compassion and respect. The owners took a very active interest in the running of the home
and were often seen around the premises chatting to both staff and spending time with residents. A good variety of activities were well organised and residents, if well enough, were encouraged to participate. Trips out were planned too which was a good boost for everyone’s morale.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.824)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.824) out of 10 for Mallands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.824 for Mallands is calculated as follows: ( (209 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 250 Ratings = 4.824
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mallands is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
