Mallands Care looked after my dad very well, the majority of the staff were excellent, really caring and very supportive, kind to my dad and all of us. It was always a nice, happy atmosphere when you walked in. The home was very, very clean always. The manager was amazing, she could not have done any more for my dad, from the beginning to the end of my dad's life she was always there. I would definitely recommend this home to everyone.

My mother lived at Mallands for 5 years. She was cared for by staff and management extremely well. Every effort was made to make her feel comfortable and to enjoy the many activities organised by Mallands. The meals were excellent and the home always clean. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they took the time to ensure my mother's needs were met. Management were always available for the residents and visiting family members. Having worked in many care homes, I was impressed by the high standards of care and the genuine friendliness of staff who supported the family when my mother was ill and when she dies.

Mum first attended Mallands as a daycare service user and enjoyed the company and activities so much that she decided to become a resident. The carers there made her feel protected and valued. The little problems that had been mountains at home became nothing under the kind and respectful regime at Mallands. Mum was only at Mallands for a few weeks before she died, but those few weeks were happy and l will always be grateful for their care of my very special Mum.

I cannot praise enough the manager and her care team at Mallands. My mother lived there for about a year up until her death in April 2019. From the moment she arrived at Mallands, she was made to feel at home and valued. Every member of staff greeted residents and visitors with a smile and nothing was ever too much trouble. The home was always clean and tidy and there were many activities on offer from art and craft to gardening and trips to local attractions were organised on a regular basis. Residents' needs were met quickly and efficiently and there were always many willing helpers to care for them. During her last few days, everything was done to a very high standard to keep her comfortable and maintain her dignity. Thank you very much to all at Mallands, a fantastic care home.

My mother was a resident for almost 17 months during which time she was very well cared for. The care team were extremely hard working under the supervision of a very efficient care manager and showed diligence, compassion and respect. The owners took a very active interest in the running of the home and were often seen around the premises chatting to both staff and spending time with residents. A good variety of activities were well organised and residents, if well enough, were encouraged to participate. Trips out were planned too which was a good boost for everyone’s morale.

I visited my Brother who is now 83 for the first time who had been in the Mallands for about 3 months to date. I was very impressed by the care being provided by all the various carers and other staff I met. They were all very friendly and new my Brother by name. Some making the comment that he was always polite and grateful for their efforts, saying please and thank you, which I found very gratifying as he is suffering from some dementia, which can lead a person with such a condition to appear ungrateful. The care he was being provided with must have been the major cause of his politeness, I would think apart from the fact that he and I were brought up "proper" of course.

The Mallands is run by a manager who is undoubtedly in control as in my view it should be. The atmosphere is relaxed at the same time as strict at the same time you and all are aware that no nonsense will be tolerated. Generally, there is a general air of freshness in the whole building which is not always the case.

My husband was in The Mallands Care Home for just over two months. He soon settled in and was very happy living there. The carers treated him so well and with dignity. The friendliness of everyone who took care of him made him feel very relaxed. My husband died peacefully in his sleep.

I had gone away for a few days so I wasn't there when he died. The manager phoned me and with great compassion told me of his death. I have nothing but good memories of Mallands and would recommend it to anyone.

This is an exceptional care home and I witnessed nothing but the highest quality of practice throughout my mother’s time here. The interactions between staff and residents are wonderful and all residents are treated with respect and affection. There is a plethora of activities throughout the week which engage the residents from visiting pets, musical entertainers, fitness instructors, a Wednesday pamper day, in addition to interesting outings, as well as lots of parties and celebrations. It really is a home from home and my mother also loved the “delicious food.” The atmosphere is one of warmth and fun. This home also ensured that my mother received the end of life she would have wished for, surrounded by her family and the amazing staff who provided exemplary and sensitive care, and also were so kind, welcoming and supportive to her family. I could not recommend this home more highly.

Outstanding support provided from day 1 in the planning and implementation of the care package for my stepmother.
Beginning with three, once a day home care visits per week and two day care visits to the home, extending to seven day home visits three times a day before my stepmother was finally placed full time at the home for the last seven weeks before she died.

From the highly competent and confident care manager (who insisted on being called out at 5am to be with my stepmother when she died) to her assistant and care team, all deserve the highest praise and thanks for the peace and reassurance given.

My father-in-law enjoyed a happy and safe stay at Mallands. The staff were all very competent and treated him with a whole lot of kindness and respect. The care team were brilliantly led by the lady care manager. You should really try and copy her very successful management methods which I am sure would increase the standards in many other homes.

My father-in-law passed away peacefully at Mallands and all the staff were very supportive of all family members.

My husband has spent 6 weeks at Mallards. He has not been an easy resident but without exception, all the staff have been both patient and compassionate towards him. Mallards is very well run, nothing is too much trouble and I have no hesitation in recommending Mallards to anyone looking for a truly caring residential home for their loved ones.

Mum has been a resident at Mallands for nearly 6 years. During her time there, the staff have always been very friendly, caring and considerate. The shared areas and also mums room were always clean and tidy. Over the years mum was there, the management team have implemented some very positive ideas around helping people who suffer from dementia-related illnesses.

My auntie was well cared for in every way with kindness and understanding.
Downside seemed to be with the laundry, which ended up with items not belonging to her being put in her room.

Overall very satisfied with her care.

Mallands was a reliably excellent home-from-home for my father, who suffered from dementia and was physically disabled too. They really understand dementia and have wonderfully imaginative and engaging activities, the staff are so kind and so caring, the facilities and support are good. Both the owners and the manager genuinely care about their clients and seem to enjoy their company, they really go the extra mile to make their lives as happy as possible. While they are very professional and well-trained, they manage to retain a warm, homely approach and never became "institutional". As a relative, I found they were very open and encouraged feedback, they reacted quickly and positively to any issues raised. I wouldn't hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend Mallands.

My Aunt went into Mallands on the 11/11/15. From the very start, all the staff were so kind and caring and continued to be throughout her stay which was 18 months. She had a very comfortable room which was kept clean and tidy. Her laundry was kept up to date. Sometimes she did get other peoples clothes put in her room, which at times was annoying. There was plenty of things going on in the lounge to keep her occupied. The meals were excellent with plenty of variety. They were always presented nicely in a very pleasant dining room. When she was ill, she was looked after very well. At the end of her life, the care was amazing. I would have liked the security to have been better, as I felt the front door should be locked as it was possible for my aunt to escape one night. Luckily she was safe and well. All in all, I think Mallands and all the staff are fantastic.

Reply from Andrew Berry, Director at Mallands

Thanks very much for your review, it's nice to have the positive feedback and it will be passed onto all the staff. Just to comment on the security, it's essential we don't deprive residents of their liberty and therefore don't lock residents in. Instead, we assess and manage the risk around each individual's wishes to walk around the gardens or indeed leave the home.

I am alone in the world, both my sisters have died, my eldest in 2004. I lived at home on my own until January 2015 when I decided to get help in a care home.

I was recommended Mallands by a friend whose father-in-law resided here. I am full of arthritis but want to keep as much independence as I can. This is encouraged here, but help is always at hand when needed.

The management are very approachable. I have been here 2 years and 5 months and am very contented. There are a number of activities should you wish to take part, but no one is forced to. The home in my view, is run to make you feel part of a family which I most certainly do.

All the staff took great care of my mother through her several months of stroke recovery. I could always speak to her on the phone when I needed to which was a great comfort as I live abroad. I would thoroughly recommend the home and all the care team to anyone.
