Although Mum was only at Southlands for 2 months before passing away she had spent time there many times before on respite.
Southlands is a warm and welcoming care home. The staff are kind, caring and willing to spend time with the residents. I couldn't have wished for a better home for Mum to end
her days.

We shall remember a friendly home with staff who seemed to us to show genuine affection for our father. Right to the end, Dad enjoyed the music activities and having food company. His 100th birthday celebrations at the home were memorable, and the staff's efforts truly appreciated by the family.

We viewed several care homes on recommendation before picking Southlands as on viewing it appeared the best smelling and the friendliest. We were not disappointed, two happy years with friendly, caring staff, good food and general high standards.

An excellent care home where staff and management ensure that all residents receive all the help they need. A wide variety of activities is provided for those who wish to use them. The rooms are comfortable and kept immaculately as are the shared areas. It would be hard to find anywhere better.

My mother moved to Southlands last July as required 24 hr care. She loved her room with her own en suite bathroom and always commented on how wonderful everyone was at Southlands. Staff gave compassion care and attention to all of mums needs. Sadly mum passed away recently but the care she received
was the best. Thank you to everyone. I will recommend this home to anyone enquiring.

The lady in question was cared for at Southlands from November 2017 until January 2019. We were very impressed with the standard of care and cleanliness of the care home. The owner goes out of his way to chat to residents and their families being on site approx 3 days per week. The care manager is professional
and through and the carers do all they can to assist the residents.

Southlands cared for my very elderly uncle for over three years until his recent death. He was very well cared for throughout his stay and his extensive needs were extremely well met, staff responding quickly to any change in his needs. The staff were also very helpful in helping us deal with the various
social services assessments that were needed in his care. The home was extremely well managed with all staff working very efficiently as a team and with great care and consideration for him, his wife and us. Early in his stay the home was extensively refurbished addressing the specific needs their elderly residents and is now a lovely place in which to be cared for and a delight to visit. We highly recommend this excellent home.

I can't speak highly enough of the staff and all concerned at Southlands, who tended so well to my aunt's needs in her final time of life.
My aunt quickly realised what a lovely home she had arrived in, when, after only a day she demanded to be allowed to stay despite her initial reluctance.
On arrival,
my aunt was really very unwell after a lengthy spell in hospital, but thanks to Southlands, my sister and I are convinced that she enjoyed the best possible final year of her life, considering the many ill health conditions she endured.
The rooms are bright and clean (newly refurbished during my aunt's stay) and the lounge and dining areas are cheerful places where many activities go on and we as relatives were always made to feel welcome as family members to join in and take part and enjoy everybody's company. We were, of course, always encouraged to visit as often as we liked.
Overall, the sense of family atmosphere and excellent care helped prolong the time we had with our dear aunt.

My mum (95) and dad (96) moved from their bungalow into Southlands in February 2018. Mum has been diagnosed with early stages of dementia and dad was finding it difficult to cope despite a daily home care package.
The management, staff and residents were most welcoming and could not have done any more
to make their life comfortable. They were offered a newly refurbished twin room with an en-suite wet room which suited them perfectly.
In the short time while they were there they were both encouraged to join in the various activities and entertainments available.
Sadly, mum passed away in the home and the way in which the staff handled the subsequent formalities was exemplary; a relief to the family at a difficult sensitive time. Dad subsequently passed away in hospital.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our mother went to Southlands aged 99 when she was no longer able to care for herself.
She was treated as an individual and encouraged to be herself.
She was allowed to have her own furniture, pot plants on a patio accessible from the room and a bird feeder outside the window.
She was there for 6
months and the unwilling loss of her independence led her to be, at times, uncooperative with the staff.
Despite this, the care and attention she received throughout the 6 months until she died was exemplary.
She was treated with respect and dignity.
Staff continued to offer her food and drink even when she resisted the offers and to respect her dignity.
When she weakened and was close to death, family members were accommodated and looked after with considerable sympathy.
The owner and manager set a standard of care and humanity which permeates the home.
All staff, whatever their role, see themselves as part of a team helping and supporting residents.
It is difficult to see how the service our mother received could have been improved.
We have nothing but praise for Southlands and all the staff.

The gentleman for whom I was an attorney was a resident from May 2016 until he passed away in January. The care that he received was exemplary at every stage.

He was treated with respect, dignity, thoughtfulness and as an individual at all times, even when his condition made this sometimes testing

for his carers.

His accommodation was very comfortable, of a high standard and well maintained - he had lovely views of the gardens and it had a homely and personal feel to it. All members of our family were always made most welcome by the staff.

I wouldn’t hesitate in giving Southlands the highest possible recommendation.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.890) out of 10 for Southlands Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.890 for Southlands Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (245 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 264 Ratings = 4.89
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southlands Residential Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
