My mother suffers from extreme deafness and severe short-term memory loss and occasional confusion. The staff are very patient with her and I have found them to be extremely kind and caring. She is very fond of them all.

I became a volunteer in October 2013 having sold my "London Taxi" to The Retreat Care Home. The owners asked me if I would like to volunteer and drive the taxi for residents needing hospitals, eye clinic and other appointments. I have been doing this since Oct 2013 and have a good insight as to how
the home is run. The manager is excellent and the care and welfare of the 20 residents is her priority. The same goes for all her staff. It is a happy, welcoming place and no nasty odours! The gardens are magnificent with lots of safe seating and shelter for the residents to enjoy. The owners are extremely caring and visit regularly to ensure all is up to standard.

I chatted to the residents who were all very smiling and happy. They have the most delightful gardens to walk and sit in, it is divided into several different "rooms". Staff are all very caring and helpful and really look out for their residents. In all a happy place.

I came here from Christchurch Dorset, because of family connection. I have reason to believe it was a wise move. I am 101 and read and write in my room. I should add I have my own toilet. I do not use the lounge much. I choose my life.

I have been visiting The Retreat weekly over the last couple of years and I have to say it's one of the best care homes I've come across. The staff are all extremely dedicated and helpful. The home itself is beautiful and feels very homely set in absolutely stunning gardens. I would highly recommend
The Retreat to anyone needing compassionate homely care.

When my dad arrived here it was only on a temporary basis. He received such a warm welcome and such a high standard of care that he decided to stay permanently. The staff are so friendly and always make time for all of us. Dad wasn't eating when he first arrived so they arranged for us to eat with him
in the dining room, which also helped to settle him in quicker. I could not recommend them enough, they have gone above and beyond to help my dad get back to his usual self, and I am very grateful for everything they have done.

My grandad has been living at The Retreat for a few months now and he loves it. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, the home itself is always clean and tidy, and is very accessible. The staff are always helpful, doing anything they can to assist both visitors and residents, and management is very
approachable and quick to act if any issues arise. The food is delicious, with gentle persuasion and persistence, my grandad has gone from eating very little when he arrived to now eating full meals. I would highly recommend this home to anyone!

Ever since my grandad arrived here, he and I have felt at home. This is thanks to the amazing staff they have at The Retreat. This place really feels like home which speaks volumes as this has been such a change to my granddads lifestyle. He's so happy here and so are the rest of my family, knowing
that he is well looked after and cared for as one of the family here at The Retreat.
I have spent time here - in his room, in the lounge with the other house mates and has meals here, which have all been to a very high standard. The place feels like a 5 star hotel with a family home atmosphere.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.250)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.250) out of 10 for The Retreat Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for The Retreat Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Retreat Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.25
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
