Buxton House is a warm and welcoming residential and dementia care home in Weymouth, Dorset. With a light and airy atmosphere, the home allows residents to live their lives as if in the comfort of their own homes whilst being cared for by committed, professionally trained staff.

Buxton House has 64 ensuite single bedrooms, divided into four wings to create a homely feel. Each wing has its own spacious lounge/diner and kitchen area.

Buxton House provides compassionate care for those who can longer live independently and also offers intermediate care for people requiring a short period of rehabilitation.

All residents can enjoy a wide variety of activities and entertainment in and around the home, plus outings in the Care South minibus to local landmarks and attractions.

1st class care home. All the staff who work there go above and beyond attending to the care of residents in every way and they also take an interest and care to the resident's family, can’t praise them enough. Massive improvement and asset to the home since the appointment of the new manager in September.

We sadly lost our precious mum yesterday and the care, compassion and support we received from the Buxton House staff during this difficult time was incredible. We will never be able thank them enough.
Her time there during the pandemic was made easier for all of us due to the outstanding love they
showed her and us.

Buxton House has been home to my mum for the last three years. This week we were told she was end of life. The staff of Buxton House welcomed my sister and I to stay with my mum overnight. Took care of her with the most compassion, care and love I have ever seen. My mum passed away yesterday, we have
been spoken to by all members of staff who looked after her, who have passed on their condolences and spoken with us individually. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. You're all fantastic and we are incredibly grateful to you, always.

I am very impressed with all of the staff, very helpful, kind and considerate. Always with a smile on their faces. Nothing is too much trouble. Very clean and tidy home. Would certainly recommend. Thanks for all you do for my mum.

What a relief when we walked into Buxton House. The light and airy atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff gave us all the reassurance we needed that mother-in-law was going to be in safe hands! Each visit we have made since shows us not only the kindness of the staff, but also the professionalism
and efficiency with which they care for each resident. Their willingness to adapt to individual needs and to care for the residents with patience and encouragement is testament to the relaxed yet efficient way in which Buxton is managed.

The home and staff are very caring and friendly. Always kept us well informed especially during covid. If I had to recommend a home to anyone I would welcome Buxton house. It’s clean good food plenty for residents to do and a very friendly atmosphere.

My mum is a new resident, but I can honestly say that my mum and I couldn’t be any happier with the experience so far. Mum's initial assessment was a really positive experience, very professional, empathetic and friendly process. All of the staff have gone out of their way to be welcoming and friendly.


The accommodation is perfect, clean comfortable and much scope to make mum's room very homely. There is a daily menu with good variety, mum loves the food! There are lots of activities for residents and social events. Most importantly, my mum is settling in well and says she is very happy. Thank you so much, everyone.

The management and staff are all kind and caring both to my mother and to the family. They are there for all of us and keep us regularly updated. They have been under the utmost pressure due to covid but have still been able to provide the same level of care, even though we were not always able to visit,
due to government restrictions. They are all warm and welcoming and I would recommend them to anybody and I hope it is still around for me when/if my time comes. It's like a caring, supporting hotel.

My nan went into Buxton House at 94 years old and died within 8 weeks. We were not informed until 20 minutes after she died, they had concerns about my Nan’s ill health enough to call out a doctor but not enough to inform her family who live five minutes down the road. She died alone. Communication
is not great and some of the staff are incompetent. The care my nan received was shocking.

During the time my husband has been in Buxton House I have found the staff to be very caring towards him. Unfortunately, I have been bale to see him as much as I would like but this is because of the virus. He has settled down very well in his room and enjoys the activities.

On behalf of myself and my relative, I cannot find words to describe the high level of empathy and support given at such a vulnerable time to us as a family.
The change in my relative from the day he arrived to where he was on leaving the home after his respite was remarkable, he felt safe and secure
which was paramount to his well being.
The home has helped him see a different way of life and enabled him to come out of his shell and enjoy activity’s and accept support when needed.
All the staff have shown such professionalism and been approachable and sensitive to issues surrounding the respite.
I personally wish to thank all the staff and would recommend this service to others.

My mother died in Buxton House on 1.7.21, during her stay of about 10 years she received wonderful care and treatment there. She was happy and extremely well cared for. The home is very well run and the staff and management team are brilliant. They deserve to be recognised for the wonderful job they

My Father-in-Law entered Buxton House in April 2019 after a fall and a short spell in hospital, as he was suffering from dementia, this was a very hard decision to make but also one of the best.
My Father-in-Law could have not gone anywhere better, he struggled to settle but the staff could not have
been more helpful and caring at all times, not just to him, but also to his family. Before COVID restrictions we could visit at any time and when we did always found him to be well cared for and even with COVID the home went out of their way to make visits possible as and when allowed with the strictest of guidelines carried out. He stayed at the home until he passed away in May 2021 and right up to the end we were kept informed with everything and he was treated with the utmost dignity and respect.

I visited my mother today in her room for the first time, it was her Birthday. Her room had a Balloon and a Birthday banner on the door. The staff brought in a cake and a present and sang happy birthday to her. Mum was over the moon with the affection she was given. I can't praise the staff highly enough
for the care they have shown to mum and me over the past few months. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have sorted out her hearing problems and taken her to the opticians. A very caring Buxton House.

My husband was admitted during the Pandemic so I have not been able to enter the home.
On visiting him I have been made welcome and when he arrives to see me he is well groomed and tidy. He eats and sleeps well and seems content. I feel he is being looked after. His reactions to music is the best therapy.
He has Alzheimer's.

I began my career working with Care South as a Care Assistant and progressed to my present role as Home Manager of Buxton House. I initially began my journey at Buxton House and worked across the company in different locations – I am so glad to be back!


Ensuring every day is meaningful for the people we care for is what drives me and the team at Buxton House to give the best possible service.


We aim to support our residents and be involved in the care we provide; to enhance their independence in confidence, knowing we can support them with our person-centred approach.
