My husband has told me staff were really nice and friendly. Food was okay in the main but my husband has been off his food but he said the puddings were lovely, I thought he would say that as he has a very sweet tooth.
Very clean and well-kept home.
Reply from Phil Smith, Director of Residential Care at Buxton HouseThank you for leaving Buxton House a review. I am so pleased your husband enjoyed the food, in particular, the puddings! I will be sure to pass on your lovely comments to the team. Wishing you all the best.

Our dad was at Buxton House Care Home for about seven years. his care was good and his room was comfortable with an ensuite shower/toilet etc. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The care home has improved much more since the new manager is now running it. She has helped the residents become
more active, being helpful and made us welcome.

My mother has been supported with understanding, professionalism and compassion and all care for her needs has been done with respect and dignity and myself and my family would recommend Buxton House, the manager and the team to anyone considering moving a family member to a care establishment.

The care my mom is receiving is good and the activities provided are a real strength to the provision in Buxton House. Staff are approachable and helpful. Management are approachable and do what they can to address any concerns that may arise regarding my mum. Regular staff are obviously working very
hard to sustain the level of care for residents. There is a welcoming feel on entry to the home and an open-access policy.

I was very happy with my father's stay. I could see when I collected him that he was as happy as I left him. Enjoying the Christmas festivities put on by the staff which I joined in and enjoyed. I would have no hesitation to take him again. Thank you very much all round.

1st class care home. All the staff who work there go above and beyond attending to the care of residents in every way and they also take an interest and care to the resident's family, can’t praise them enough. Massive improvement and asset to the home since the appointment of the new manager in September.

We sadly lost our precious mum yesterday and the care, compassion and support we received from the Buxton House staff during this difficult time was incredible. We will never be able thank them enough.
Her time there during the pandemic was made easier for all of us due to the outstanding love they
showed her and us.

Buxton House has been home to my mum for the last three years. This week we were told she was end of life. The staff of Buxton House welcomed my sister and I to stay with my mum overnight. Took care of her with the most compassion, care and love I have ever seen. My mum passed away yesterday, we have
been spoken to by all members of staff who looked after her, who have passed on their condolences and spoken with us individually. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. You're all fantastic and we are incredibly grateful to you, always.

What a relief when we walked into Buxton House. The light and airy atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff gave us all the reassurance we needed that mother-in-law was going to be in safe hands! Each visit we have made since shows us not only the kindness of the staff, but also the professionalism
and efficiency with which they care for each resident. Their willingness to adapt to individual needs and to care for the residents with patience and encouragement is testament to the relaxed yet efficient way in which Buxton is managed.

My mum is a new resident, but I can honestly say that my mum and I couldn’t be any happier with the experience so far. Mum's initial assessment was a really positive experience, very professional, empathetic and friendly process. All of the staff have gone out of their way to be welcoming and friendly.

The accommodation is perfect, clean comfortable and much scope to make mum's room very homely. There is a daily menu with good variety, mum loves the food! There are lots of activities for residents and social events. Most importantly, my mum is settling in well and says she is very happy. Thank you so much, everyone.

The management and staff are all kind and caring both to my mother and to the family. They are there for all of us and keep us regularly updated. They have been under the utmost pressure due to covid but have still been able to provide the same level of care, even though we were not always able to visit,
due to government restrictions. They are all warm and welcoming and I would recommend them to anybody and I hope it is still around for me when/if my time comes. It's like a caring, supporting hotel.

My nan went into Buxton House at 94 years old and died within 8 weeks. We were not informed until 20 minutes after she died, they had concerns about my Nan’s ill health enough to call out a doctor but not enough to inform her family who live five minutes down the road. She died alone. Communication
is not great and some of the staff are incompetent. The care my nan received was shocking.
Reply from Aaron Whitehead, Director of Residential Care at Buxton HouseWe pride ourselves on our excellent standard of care at Buxton House and are sorry we have not met your expectations on this occasion. The concerns had already been communicated directly to us and a full review was completed, concluded and feedback given to family members. Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.708)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.708) out of 10 for Buxton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.708 for Buxton House is calculated as follows: ( (297 Excellents x 5) + (84 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 397 Ratings = 4.708
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Buxton House is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
