On behalf of myself and my relative, I cannot find words to describe the high level of empathy and support given at such a vulnerable time to us as a family.
The change in my relative from the day he arrived to where he was on leaving the home after his respite was remarkable, he felt safe and secure
which was paramount to his well being.
The home has helped him see a different way of life and enabled him to come out of his shell and enjoy activity’s and accept support when needed.
All the staff have shown such professionalism and been approachable and sensitive to issues surrounding the respite.
I personally wish to thank all the staff and would recommend this service to others.
As a family, we will be forever thankful.

My mother died in Buxton House on 1.7.21, during her stay of about 10 years she received wonderful care and treatment there. She was happy and extremely well cared for. The home is very well run and the staff and management team are brilliant. They deserve to be recognised for the wonderful job they
do.

My Father-in-Law entered Buxton House in April 2019 after a fall and a short spell in hospital, as he was suffering from dementia, this was a very hard decision to make but also one of the best.
My Father-in-Law could have not gone anywhere better, he struggled to settle but the staff could not have
been more helpful and caring at all times, not just to him, but also to his family. Before COVID restrictions we could visit at any time and when we did always found him to be well cared for and even with COVID the home went out of their way to make visits possible as and when allowed with the strictest of guidelines carried out. He stayed at the home until he passed away in May 2021 and right up to the end we were kept informed with everything and he was treated with the utmost dignity and respect.

I visited my mother today in her room for the first time, it was her Birthday. Her room had a Balloon and a Birthday banner on the door. The staff brought in a cake and a present and sang happy birthday to her. Mum was over the moon with the affection she was given. I can't praise the staff highly enough
for the care they have shown to mum and me over the past few months. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have sorted out her hearing problems and taken her to the opticians. A very caring Buxton House.

My husband was admitted during the Pandemic so I have not been able to enter the home.
On visiting him I have been made welcome and when he arrives to see me he is well groomed and tidy. He eats and sleeps well and seems content. I feel he is being looked after. His reactions to music is the best therapy.
He has Alzheimer's.

An excellent home, the staff and management are always professional, respectful and cheerful and always go out their way to help in any way they can to help resolve any issues we as a family have when it comes to my mums care.
My mum is very happy at Buxton House as she’s treated more like a family
member than a resident by all the staff and she enjoys all the company that Buxton House has to offer in other residents and staff alike.
I drop in quite often to see my mum throughout the week (pre-covid) if only for a quick 10-minute chat, I've even dropped in at odd times and they are always accommodating and I feel this is one of the best things about Buxton house, it’s more an open house with excellent care for my mum as she’s never looked so well cared for!
It’s always clean and well presented in all areas and mums room is very roomy with all the home comforts she wishes for.
A great home with excellent friendly staff and management.

My mum has mixed dementia, she has been struggling to manage in her flat, and it got to the stage of Mum needing 24-hour care, which we provided as a family, but this just could not go on. Doing so, Mum did not know who we were or where she was although she has lived in the same flat for 18-years, and
was very sad and very depressed and couldn’t really do much for herself at all. Mum has now been at Buxton House for just over two weeks. My brother visited her yesterday, and we, as a family, cannot get over the transformation; she looks 30-years younger and is definitely much happier - she was just existing in her flat and now she is living a much happier life. We cannot thank Buxton House and all the staff enough. Mum says they are all lovely people. I can’t wait to visit Mum and see the difference for myself, but for now, I’m so happy and thankful that Mum has a fabulous place to live. Thank you all so appreciated.

Mum spent 5-weeks at Buxton House during the lockdown, so unable to comment on rooms, food, activities etc. All staff were helpful and cheerful when contacted by phone. No alternative to calling was offered for speaking with Mum. The site manager did not contact or return calls during the entire stay,
preferring to delegate his work. Mum had nothing but praise for the kindness, patience and hardworking staff that care for her. Thank you.

I'm a granddaughter of a resident and I must say I honestly think Buxton House is the best place for her. She's well looked after and tells me she loves the food and the carers are amazing and do an outstanding job keeping her safe. They do a wide variety of activities and we enjoy seeing all the photos.
When visiting was allowed, I must say the care home was well presented and looked beautiful at Christmas with all the decorations.

In my contact with Buxton House on behalf of my brother, I find them very cooperative and helpful. It is clear that the wellbeing and care of their residents is paramount, which is exemplified by the extended care necessary for their residents during the Covid-19 pandemic.
I find that their contact
with relatives by telephone, such as monthly health updates, immediate contact for any health issues arising, call for direct assistance from relatives if needed, etc. is very assuring. The addition of Skype to their care armoury is reassuring for both resident and relatives.
Their organised activities for residents and apparent connections with the local community adds greatly to the wellbeing and standard of life of the residents.

Since Mum has been in Buxton House, she has been a real challenge to the staff. She has settled in, and I'm sure she is happy there. Since covid, it has been difficult for all concerned, but the staff have stepped up and stood in the gap and made an effort to be able to get to see Mum. They keep us
informed of any progress.

I visited my mum for the first time since she became a resident at Buxton House. Despite the visit being limited to 15 minutes due to the current restrictions, it was a very pleasant experience. The visit had been prepared for by the staff in a very thoughtful way. The staff were extremely attentive
to both my mum and my dad and me who were visiting. They took great care of mum and dad since the visit was conducted outside they took care to ensure she was wrapped up warmly enough and comfortable.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.708)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.708) out of 10 for Buxton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.708 for Buxton House is calculated as follows: ( (297 Excellents x 5) + (84 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 397 Ratings = 4.708
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Buxton House is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
