Really helpful in getting mum in for respite really quickly as she and us as a family were not coping, home really clean and tidy, nice size room, helped mum get back on her feet and more confident in her mobility , ready for when she went home, mum said food was generally good , only negative aspect
was there was no TV in her room , and luckily we had a spare to take in,

My 6 months stay at Dorset House has changed my view of the world in many ways all to the good. I now live with people who have varying degrees of vulnerability and they are able to enjoy life fully supported by a caring and dedicated team.

My mother in law has just become a permanent resident, having been here before respite care. The staff have gone the extra mile to welcome and help her settle in. She is enjoying the food, there is plenty of it, with 3 hot meals a day, plus supper, morning coffee (with a snack) and afternoon tea (with
a snack). Her bedroom is a nice size, comfy bed, nice furniture, with room for the family to sit with her in her room if we want to, numerous lounges to sit in, lots of activities she has already been involved in. The home is really warm, kept very clean, and kind professional staff on hand whenever needed.
Reply from Rachel Wood, Head of Customer Relations at Dorset HouseThank you so much for your lovely 5 star review. It's wonderful to read such high praise - the team really do always strive to the extra mile at Dorset House. I will share your review with the whole team as I know it'll be gratefully received. On visiting Dorset House greeted by very friendly staff, very clean on our visit to see dad, he is loving the freshly prepared & cooked meals. Dad seems to be very happy at Dorset House after living on his own for the last 8 years & very independently.

My parents have been residents of Dorset House for a year now. During this time they have blossomed & have settled in so much better than I initally thought they would. The staff are kind, caring & compassionate; nothing is too much trouble. When my folks first moved in I took in a variety of pictures
& decorations and all had been hung within 24 hours. The staff appear happy in their work; the majority have worked at DH the entire time my folks have resided there, which I know from experience is often not the case with care homes and those that work with these vulnerable, elderly folk; where staff turn over is high. When I visit I am greeted by name and made very welcome. My brother & I had lunch with our parents at DH the week before Christmas on the occasion of their 68th wedding anniversary; everyone was so kind and went out of their way to make it a special time. I sleep well knowing that my beloved parents are in a safe, kind, nurturing environment in the twilight of their lives.

The staff here gave exceptional care, I found them all to be welcoming, friendly, kind and supportive. They certainly make a warm, safe and happy atmosphere for the residents.
The process of getting my mum into respite care was swift and easy which was necessary and very much appreciated.
There were
plenty of activities for the residents and the place was bright and clean with a lovely garden.
I thank everyone here for their hard work, help and understanding.

The staff at Dorset House are exceptional, they are especially caring, friendly and professional in their execution of their duties to ensure a clean, friendly and peaceful environment. In view of the short notice they had to admit my mum her treatment was exemplary, they ensured she had a peaceful
and respectful last few days. Also their care, respect and understanding to both myself and family was outstanding. I/we cannot thank them enough for coming to our rescue in our hour of need.

First time into respite care for my Mum, the whole team made my Mum feel welcome and secure, despite it being a new experience for her. The staff were all kind, caring and warm-hearted, encouraging her to take part in the activities, despite her strong reluctance. Her room and the facilities were
clean, warm and tidy. Mum said the food was good and plenty of it and enjoyed the warm atmosphere and comfy bed. The staff also helped us in how best to help mum settle in, Connor was outstanding, but all the staff good. Good to know that Mum was in such safe hands. Thank you.

It is never easy having to consider care for your parents, but since moving our parents in to Dorset House I can only say that it has been lovely to become a daughter again and not a carer. All the staff are so friendly, professional and respectful and nothing is too much for them.
Mum unfortunately
passed away recently, but dad continues to flourish with the care and encouragement from all the team.

Since both of my parents moved to Dorset House this summer I cannot fully express how caring, compassionate, helpful and friendly all the staff have been. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Mum sadly passed away after a short stay but Dad is still a resident and due to the ongoing care and help
offered to him his mobility and general well being has greatly improved. Dad is encouraged to take part in the daily activities sessions arranged by the enthusiastic and energetic Activities Team and recently enjoyed a boat trip around Poole Harbour.

Each time we visit Dorset House we are welcomed by friendly and happy staff who always take time to ask how we are and update up us on Dad's care.

Both my parents-in-law recently became residents in Dorset House and were made most welcome from the outset. They were able to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a family & friends gathering in one of the lounges set aside & decorated especially for the occasion, with a wonderful buffet of food
and refreshments. It made a memorable day for them and all who attended. The gardens outside are always well tended and are beautiful for sitting in or having a stroll to see the fish. There is plenty of shade and seats & seating areas available. All the staff are very friendly and caring, they quickly understand the residents and also the residents families/friends visiting. Its always such a pleasure to visit, you are made most welcome, a real home. Although my parents-in-law were not at all keen on moving into a care home; from the day they entered they have really enjoyed being there. There are activities arranged every day and also trips out to Swanage, Poole Quay, the park etc.

The transition for my father from the family home to Dorset House has been made a lot less stressful by the fantastic staff. Absolutely everyone works incredibly hard to ensure my fathers needs are met and that he feels comfortable and happy. On my visits to the home I have found the atmosphere at
Dorset House to be consistently warm, friendly and above all caring,. This has given me the confidence to feel that my father can actually enjoy this somewhat more challenging period of his life fully supported by a wonderful team.

My mum has been a resident at Dorset House for 4 years. The love and care that is given to her by all staff is above and beyond. Every single member of staff is professional, kind and knowledgeable. We as a family are always kept up to date with Mums care and feel the staff are very approachable if
there are any concerns. There are activities on every day for the residents to enjoy and outings if they wish to go on them. The whole house is kept clean and tidy and the Dining Room is lovely. The chef is approachable with any individual needs and the food provided is well cooked. There is a constant drinks trolley and fruit available at all times. There are a couple of staff that Mum is close to, one in particular who uses humour to manage Mums personal needs. He is always smiling and happy in his work.

Mum came initially for respite care and is now a permanent resident. She has a lovely room with a view of the garden, although currently bed bound I have visited the dining room - which looks like a hotel and the beautiful garden.
All of the staff are so patient and caring. Nothing is ever too much
trouble, from the housekeeper to the chef, everyone is friendly and helpful. All the carers know what mum likes and take time to talk to her and have a joke or a chat. Team leaders are knowledgeable, they always have time to listen and have good knowledge of mums needs.
Having been very worried about mum being in a care home, in fact my brother and I now feel she is safe and well cared for. We would highly recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.818)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.818) out of 10 for Dorset House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.818 for Dorset House is calculated as follows: ( (391 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 467 Ratings = 4.818
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dorset House is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
