Overall Experience
Mum was a resident at the Knoll for just over 2 years, until she sadly passed away.
We were very happy with her care at The Knoll, where she was treated with kindness, care and respect.
She was very happy at the Knoll and regarded those around her as her family and friends.
She also thoroughly enjoyed the activities, hairdresser and observing the wildlife in the beautiful garden.
Reece has brought a breath of fresh air and along with Cara, Hiral we have been able to keep in touch via the odd video call, for birthdays and special occasions,
as we live intermittantly abroad and in the east of England.
We value the benefits a smaller home brings, the entire staff team are known to the residents, which brings an added layer of richness to the lives of the residents.
Tim the maintenance man is a star, and makes time for a bit of banter with the residents, which they all enjoy.

If you are faced with the difficult decision of finding a Care Home for your loved one then we heartily recommend.

My husband (with dementia and parkinsons) came to The Knoll in June 26. This was our first experience of care outside our home. We were immediately welcomed and supported in this transition. Nothing was too much trouble from plug points in his room to changing GPs and meeting staff and other residents.
We very quickly felt at home and I felt that a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

It is early days for me to properly complete the ratings but our experience so far has been excellent, professional but caring and supportive - thank you.

I really can't fault this care home. From the moment you walk in, it's bright and airy, and the main area where everyone sits and meets has such a warm, welcoming feel to it. The staff are genuinely caring and hopeful - you can tell they're on the ball and really pay attention to the little things. The bedrooms have everything residents need, and it's clear a lot of thought has gone into making people feel comfortable and looked after. Couldn't recommend it more.

As always staff always listen and very attentive. Manager and 2nd in command are great communicators and really show they care. Given that I live in the US relying on the home is vital for me there is no one else to look after my Dad so this home is a god send.

The staff are very friendly, approachable and helpful at The Knoll. It has been a big thing to transfer care of my beloved grandmother, but I can see her needs are being met well and she's benefitting from The Knoll's services, facilities and staff.

I have found the service good/satisfactory. One point is the regularity with which the manager changes. I am not happy with the fact that my mother has been kept in her room for several years now. I know that she is no longer able to socialise but I feel she has been bed bound longer than necessary.

My lovely mum-in-law reached the point where she needed 24-hour care, which isn't an easy thing for any family. However, my wife had been given a good report about The Knoll and luckily, there was a room available, so Mum moved there in September and settled in pretty quickly. We have been impressed with the level of care provided and the kindness and patience of the staff and management, always ensuring that any health issues that arise are dealt with promptly. Mum has been much better in herself since moving to The Knoll - she is eating better and is happier having more company than she did living on her own. She was offered the opportunity to move into a bigger room recently, which has a wonderful view over the lovely gardens at the rear, where mum loves to watch the wildlife, including deer, hares and rabbits. I am so pleased that, due to the confidence my wife has in the staff at The Knoll, the stress she was under is no longer an issue, thanks to Reece and his brilliant staff.

This is a place I would send my worst enemy. Totally mis advertised and misleading website. It hardly does anything that it advertises. Ive never seen a written menu in a folder to choose from, and as for a wine menu??!!!!! never seen a bottle of wine there.! The care is not up to standard at all. Breakfast meals constantly missed with various residents, clothing going missing and misplaced, cleanliness an issue. Twice in the last months my mother was there, residents saying 'if i pretend to be dead, maybe they will notice me' soul destroying to be around.

Reply from Chris Potter, Operations Manager at The Knoll Care Home

I am so sorry that you feel that the care your mother received was below the level you expected however I am unable to comment further regarding your allegations whilst we are in the process of investigating these concerns. Excellent staff who are caring and empathetic. Generally good facilities only marked down slightly by rooms not being en suite. I think in this day and age all care facilities should have at least some en suite rooms for guest able to use them unattended to maintain individual dignity. I accept this facility probably does not have the infrastructure to support this. I only have respect and gratitude to a caring staff and carers.

We visited The Knoll in Gloucester to see my grandad and the home had a party, a lady was one hundred years old and another couple had been married sixty years. The manager and staff did a fantastic job decorating and cooking the lovely food. My grandad was not well, so was asleep and did not get to enjoy the party. The singer was good and sang lots of songs the residents liked.

A wonderful place to leave a loved one to be cared for. Nothing was too much of a problem. Everyone from the managers to the handyman showed genuine care for my nanny. Beautiful grounds and well-equipped facilities.

If you are looking for somewhere that doesn’t just meet your loved one's physical needs but gets to know them as an individual and does their utmost to cater for that - this should be your choice. Thank you to every member of the staff.

Reece WelstedJob Title:Registered Home ManagerJoined: 2025

Over the past eight years, I've gone from volunteering in a care home to becoming a Registered Manager, and it's been an amazing journey. Along the way, I completed my Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, but the biggest achievement for me is being able to do a job that I genuinely love.

I'm so happy to now be the Registered Manager at The Knoll. Working alongside such a caring team and getting to spend every day with our wonderful residents is what makes this role so special. My passion has always been making sure every resident is well looked after, feels safe, and knows that The Knoll is their home—not just a place they live. I love getting to know our residents, sharing a laugh with them, and making sure every day is the best it can be. Seeing people happy and knowing we've made a difference is what makes it all worthwhile.

Cara Carpenter
Cara CarpenterJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2015

Hi, I'm the Deputy Manager at The Knoll, and I've been part of the team for 11 years (yes, I'm practically part of the furniture!). My biggest passion is making sure our residents receive the very best care while getting to know each of them as individuals. I want every family to have complete peace of mind, knowing their loved one is happy, safe, and genuinely cared for. The best part of my day is spending time with our wonderful residents—there's never a dull moment, and they certainly keep me on my toes! When I'm not at The Knoll, you'll usually find me spending time with my amazing grandmother and the rest of my family, making the most of every opportunity to create happy memories.

Kelly Kingscote
Kelly KingscoteJob Title:Head HousekeeperJoined: 2021

Hi, My name is Kelly, although I prefer to be called Kells or Kellbells, I have been head housekeeper for 5 years, I really enjoy my role and take great pride in knowing that I can make a difference to the care, cleanliness and comfort of our residents, whether they are staying with us on respite or long term, I am lucky to work alongside such a lovely team, who I enjoy working with everyday.

Outside of work, I love getting creative, especially wreath making, flower arranging and sometimes a bit of diamond art. When I am relaxing at home with my family, I like watching crime documentaries and programmes based on true-life events.

Tim Joyner
Tim JoynerJob Title:Maintenance ManJoined: 2004

I've been the maintenance man at The Knoll since 2004, and no two days are ever the same! I love getting stuck into all sorts of jobs, learning new skills along the way, and finding creative solutions—I've always been pretty handy with my hands. Around The Knoll, I'm better known as the "Sweaty Man" because I'm always on the go, and I never miss the chance to hand out a chocolate treat to our residents each day. One of the best parts of my job is spending one-to-one time with the residents, having a chat, a laugh, and getting to know them. I've got a big heart, and making people smile is what it's all about.

When I'm not at work, you'll usually find me making memories with my grandchildren, who keep me busy, especially on our annual family day trips that I look forward to every year.
