Myford House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our mom spent over 3 years at Myford House initially for enablement care before becoming a permanent resident due to her ongoing health needs. Mom was looked after with care, dignity and love until she recently passed away. All of the carers, nurses, manager and admin staff were all welcoming to mom
and our family. Mom was unable to take part in any of the organised events due to her health but we could see events taking place on a regular basis. Whilst the building is older and some aspects could do with modernising, the main priority for us was moms care and ensuring her complex health needs could be met, something that Myford was able to provide.
We'd like to especially thank the carers and nurses who looked after mom with such compassion and care in the last few days of her life. There are some great people who work very hard at Myford - thank you

I cannot praise Brookdale nursing home enough. The staff have gone above and beyond to make mum as a new resident welcome after she had spent 13 long weeks in hospital. Nothing is ever too much trouble and attention to detail has been amazing. The staff are all so friendly. I would recommend Brookdale
nursing home to anyone and can't thank them enough!

Excellent staff who are caring and empathetic. Generally good facilities only marked down slightly by rooms not being en suite. I think in this day and age all care facilities should have at least some en suite rooms for guest able to use them unattended to maintain individual dignity. I accept this
facility probably does not have the infrastructure to support this. I only have respect and gratitude to a caring staff and carers.

My husband is now into his 5th week of permanent care, after having 2 periods of respite care.
We have tried other care homes which are purpose built and have all the mod cons but the care was appalling. (Or lack of!!)
The carers are absolutely brilliant with him and I cannot fault the care. He himself
is very happy there and has not had a bad word to say about any of them, quite the contrary.
The kindness and patience of the carers is outstanding.
He isn't left lying or sitting around in his room and participates in most activities. Someone needs to take him there so he is always looked after in that respect.
I have had occasion to speak to management a couple of times and they always make the time and reassure me if there have been any problems, not with the care, but my own anxieties about my husband.
The earlier review that was not complimentary about Brookdale, makes me wonder if they were talking about another nursing home.
Reply from Angela Butler, Nursing manager at Brookdale Nursing Home

We are really pleased that your husband has settled so well and It is a pleasure to have you both join our little family. Moving a loved one into permanent care is always a really hard decision but seeing you looking so much more relaxed and enjoying your time together should help you realise that the decision was the right one.

My father was admitted to Myford House for rehabilitation following a hospital stay. My partner and I were away on holiday when his condition declined rapidly and unexpectedly-it was an extremely stressful time. Tragically, despite our best efforts, Dad passed away before we could return home.
Although
his stay at Myford House was brief, the care he received from the team, and especially from two staff members in particular, was truly outstanding. We felt that Dad was treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
During visits from family and friends, we heard consistently positive feedback about the support Dad received. When we returned and visited in person, we were greeted warmly. The staff treated us with kindness and allowed us the space and time in Dad's room to collect his belongings with care.
We can honestly say that had Dad needed longer-term care, we would have felt completely confident and comfortable with him remaining at Myford House.
Thank you to all the staff for looking after Dad.

I would like to say how very happy we are with the care our Mum is receiving at Brookdale .
She has Dementia and her needs have become intensive but the help and care we have received has been , without exaggeration, a real life saver .
The staff and management are all very welcoming, they always
have time for you and the care , and we do know the difference, is absolutely first class .
The communication is excellent and they are always easily contactable. We get regular updates, she gets constant stimulation ie:- exercise classes, activities, music etc and she is more relaxed and free of anxiety in this lovely place .
Thanks to everyone who works so hard to make a difficult situation feel a lot easier to deal with.

It was a very difficult family decision for my Dad to enter a nursing home, however when we looked around Brookdale we were taken in by the warmth of the staff and you could feel the passion and understanding from the manager.
Initially whilst in for respite, he was treated with exemplary care, ensuring
constant changes were made and care provided to better my Dad's comfort, quality of life and safety.
After a brief spell back home, this was to be a permanent arrangement shortly after, which was made so much easier by it already feeling so homely. He's provided with lovely food, has some of the very best care and nothing is ever overlooked in terms of constantly making further improvements tailored to each individuals needs.
The lovely atmosphere is really instilled from the manager down to her team and all combined means it would be the only option we would consider for our loved one.

Previously my husbands time was respite at Brookdale Nursing Home, he is now a permanent resident due to a significant down turn in his condition.
It was a bank holiday weekend, when I realised I could no longer care properly for him on my own, I didn't know which way to turn so I phoned Brookdale.
Their response was above and beyond, they flew into action and he was admitted as soon as I could get him there. I even had a call from the manager who was off duty offering help to get him there.
The standard of care my husband has received since has been faultless. He is settled now (which is no mean feat) due to the care of every member of staff. There are no visiting times, I can visit day or night unannounced, which for me, speaks volumes.
It's a difficult and sad time, when the day comes that your loved one needs full time nursing care, but I am so happy he is where he is and is so well cared for.
Thank you all so much.

Thank you for your lovely words, they are much appreciated. No-one ever plans to live in a care home but when it is needed we do our best to be there for the resident and the family and always encourage people to treat Brookdale like their own home, coma and go as you please and bring pets, children and definitely babies as our ladies faces light up at the sight of a baby.

Where do I start! I could start by telling u that my family member was injured by a member of staff with a drinks trolley that shattered her hip. I could start by saying the residents spend 90% of the time in their rooms or beds unless there's entertainment on. I could start by saying that clients with
severe dementia are left wondering the corridors on their own, smashing up other peoples belongings & attacking visitors! I could mention the vile language that comes from the mouths of the staff. Or I could mention that certain staff feel its appropriate to offer relates their phone number for inappropriate reasons (I will let u join the dots) & when told I was married Said "your husband doesn't have to know!" Even Staff have advised us to remove our loved ones from here! This home is smoke and mirrors! Avoid at all costs! Social services are aware and investigations are being made! Our loved one is now safe with us at home!

I highly recommend Elmbank and the staff there. They are caring and diligent in their everyday management of the residents. My mother was with them for nearly a year and a half. Mum had full blown Alzheimer, she did not recognise food, could not communicate. nor indicate she was in any discomfort.
Complex issues to say the least. The previous care-home that mum was at, had virtually starved her, along with many other things.
To cut the long story short. My mother looked healthier at Elmbank, hours before her death (when I last saw mum) than when she left her other decrepit care-home a year and a half ago. The manager (and her team) managed to get mum into a daily routine making sure that mum took food and fluids. Mum never smelt of urine at Elmbank (unlike the previous care-home.) nor did her room, or indeed the establishment itself, smell squalid. Highly recommended.

The Manager and her team are amazing. The home is always clean, the residents are happy and well cared for. The team have always respected my families cultural needs - they understand that they want to eat pasta and other dishes from their home country as well as the regular dishes the home provides.
The staff are friendly and dedicated to the care of all the residents. The manager is always happy to discuss how my family is getting on and knows all about the day they have had. The team also addresses the medical needs of my family with professionalism, empathy and understanding meaning that my family have always been comfortable and content in the home and have never been left in discomfort due to the staffs training and routine within the home. I would highly recommend this home for any families who want a safe and happy place for their loved ones who need the additional help and care during the later stages of their lives.

Trying to find the right home for your loved ones is a daunting task, so many care homes around but so many horror stories out there. We did a lot of research and viewed a lot of homes, Brookdale stood out from others due to its friendly down to earth staff and the home from home feel. Over 12 mths
on we still know we made the right call. staff are friendly and always happy to help/ listen or deal with any issues.
There are activities to meet everyone's needs from gentle fitness classes / singers / animal man and lots of crafty things .
Food is lovely, and freshly cooked everyday and residents are always given a choice so no one ever goes hungry.
A lot of improvement have been done in the home in the last 12 mths and they are freshly decorating rooms .
They welcome communication and your voice is heard. Holding regular family meetings.
The manager has been amazing, always making sure we know what's going on and easy to contact if any issues arise.

My dear stepdad has been a resident since July 2024, initially for respite but ultimately as a permanent resident. From the very beginning he was made welcome, his needs were met and he soon settled in to his new environment. They have continued to monitor is ongoing care needs and adjust this accordingly.
The nurses and carers are amazing, very friendly, and have built a strong rapport, both with my stepdad and us as a family. The home is currently undergoing refurbishment and my stepdad has had his room completely redecorated and a new laminate floor. His room is homely and comfortable with a lovely view of the garden. There are various activities and entertainment arranged for most days which my stepdad is encouraged to join in with, as well as days out to local venues. The food is home cooked and there is a good variety. Alternative meal options are offered when necessary. We are very happy with the standard of care and would recommend Brookdale Nursing Home without hesitation.
