I was very impressed with Ashely House. Over the years I have visited various residents. But this is the first time I have had the experience of being a resident. The staff are friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There did not appear to be enough activities to stimulate the brain, however, my stay was a very happy one.

Ashley House is welcoming with pleasant, professional staff. Residents are seen as individuals and related to kindly. Facilities are homely and food excellent. There is a good balance of activities and residents are allowed to help with things, keeping a sense of worth for them.

Firstly the manager and her staff are amazing and always welcoming and so caring, I felt I really needed to write and say I now have my mother in Ashley House. She joined my father at the beginning of the year. Initially, she was just going for respite but settled so well decided she would stay. At first, she didn’t join in with activities or the entertainment but now really enjoys it especially the quizzes, singing and storytelling.
Considering how mum was living before, although fairly independently, she has a much-improved quality of life.
Mum and dad being together means they can see each other whenever they want to as it was very difficult before.
My dad is not quite so good but they have put in place extra care so he is able to stay at Ashley where he is happy.

Last, but by no means least, they arranged a beautiful tea party for mum's 90th birthday for all her friends and on the Sunday a delicious roast for all the family. The cakes were amazing cooked by the chef. Thank you.

My mother has received a very high level of care and support at Ashley House. The staff have worked hard to help her settle in, in liaising with the local GP and psychiatric nurse and crisis team, in order to find appropriate medication and care for her dementia. I can now relax knowing that she is content and well looked after.

A small, friendly home giving excellent care. Good home catering. Lovely garden and conservatory. The staff have time to talk to residents' visitors. Can I reserve a room, please, for me!

My husband has been in this home for the last 5 1/2 years. In all that time he has been so well looked after by a very compassionate team. Since the new manager has been in charge everyone is happier and there is more stability in the home.

I believe that the provision of good care is all about the carers - and the management and staff at Ashley House are wonderful! It takes huge patience and kindness to keep everyone happy, and the staff at Ashley House certainly do their very best. It's interesting to note that some staff have been there a long time and it feels like a close, well-managed team.

The surroundings are homely, not clinical, and the gardens and conservatory are an added bonus. There is plenty of good food plus lovely snacks and refreshments throughout the day. The dining room feels cosy and communal and I love the menu on the wall.

There is a real commitment to joining in local activities, including walks, church visits, community singalongs and tea dances. Residents also mix regularly with school children, which makes everyone happy - young and old.

I would not hesitate to recommend Ashley House.

My father has been a resident at Ashley House for two and a half very happy years. The ethos is to provide a home from home environment so there are no regimented routines; residents get up when they want, eat where they want and get as involved in the activities as they wish. The carers are dedicated and hardworking, making the residents feel safe and loved but all the staff contribute to the cheerful atmosphere, providing high standards of cleanliness and excellent food. Ashley House has retained its good rating from the CQC as a result of the changes and developments put in place by the manager who acts on suggestions and is constantly looking to improve the fabric of the building and extend the amenities. For example, the number and range of activities have been expanded to include a fitness class and "Toddler Tuesdays"; this is a delightful hour when residents get to sing and complete activities with an energetic pre-school group.

Dad has been a resident of Ashley House for a month. After a shaky 48 hours, he has become familiar with the routines and learnt to accept the help on offer. After many years of independent living, he has needed to be encouraged to treat the house as a hotel.

He enjoys the food provided and put on a kilo in the first fortnight, causing him to take care of what he eats in between meals. He has a very comfortable, newly decorated and furnished, spacious room with ensuite toilet and sink. The view from his room across the moor to the railway viaduct is exceptional and keeps him entertained throughout the day.

The management have been very supportive in allowing us to provide him with Sky for his TV and an amplified phone - two of the important elements of his life at home - maintaining continuity of his lifestyle.

My mother initially went for respite care for one week but after returning home for one day decided she much preferred living at Ashley House. It is a home in the true sense of the word, friendly, welcoming, caring, open. As her daughter I drop in with no notice and have always enjoyed my visits and always been very pleased and surprised at what activities mum has been doing from planting seeds to singing, walking, flower arranging, making cards etc. I've found all the staff to be very caring and helpful and always available. Mum has dementia and I think it is just the right size home for her she has made friends easily and can recognise the staff, shes also very proud of her room which has an en-suite, which I consider essential for her independence and privacy.

Ashley House has provided a safe and friendly day care for my mother who is 93 years old, she lives with us and receives day care twice a week. The staff are always friendly and mum tells us the food is lovely.

We feel very happy to leave mum in their care which gives us that much needed respite.

Ashley House is an old Victorian building and is in the process of being upgraded internally with paint and decor.
However, the care given is excellent and I would not want to put her in any other care home.

This is an excellent home.

I was so thrilled to get my mother into this residential home. The staff are brilliant, so caring and helpful and so patient. My mother's room looks out over the Somerset levels where she can see cows. Coming from a farming background, she loves it.

The meals are nourishing and well presented.

Recently under new management, I can already see changes in the living conditions, menus and inclusion of residents in decision making.
During my mother's short spell here, she received care and love above and beyond the call of duty from the amazing staff.

I cannot express my gratitude enough, they gave her a very special, peaceful end of life experience. She died with dignity thanks to those lovely ladies.

This is a small well-established care home with caring friendly staff. Since the arrival of the new manager, the rooms and gardens are being refurbished and replanted. Meals are beginning to be more varied and residents seem to enjoy them. Public rooms and residents bedrooms are always clean and tidy and residents flowers are always looked after by the staff. It would be pleasing to see more activities and outings for the residents and greater use of the gardens.

The level of care and warmth towards residents is outstanding. I could not recommend it more highly. My mother has a difficult medical condition which all the carers deal with cheerfully and respectfully. Everything else, including management and food, is fine. One small thing - I hope more can be done to get residents out of their rooms and into the garden in the summer.
