Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My relative moved to The Firs when she was 101 years old and has been cared for with kindness throughout her 17 month stay. She had a lovely room, was pleased to be able to keep precious items of memorabilia around her, enjoyed the food and was provided with all she needed for the last months of her
life.
It was reassuring for our family to find members of staff attending her with calm consideration during her final weeks and days. We were kept closely informed about her state of health during this time and felt confident that she was receiving the best possible care.
Sincere thanks to all those at The Firs who nursed and cared for her so well, giving her peace and dignity at the end of a long life.
Reply from Pip Smith, Registered Manager at The FirsBless you. Thanks for your lovely review it is appreciated. We really miss Chrissie. Do pop in if passing by. Pip

Christine has been treated with kindness and consideration throughout her time at The Firs. She felt looked after and cared for, her room was very comfortable. Christine enjoyed the activities, especially painting the plant pot, she also liked the food and the staff very much.
On my visits to see
Christine (my half sister) I always felt welcomed and, although busy, the staff always had time to speak and approached all the residents with professional care, dignity and good humour.
The Firs is well managed, has a happy atmosphere and the hard working staff all deserve medals for the work they do every day. Thank you all so much for looking after Christine so well.
Reply from Pip Smith, Registered Manager at The FirsThanks so much Penny for your kind words, we were delighted to be able to care for Christine. She always appreciated your visits and music. We will miss her, she was always so cheerful and her encouraging words and thankfulness will be missed.

Cambrian lodge feels like home. It's warm, safe & welcoming. It provides appropriate care for individuals & adapts care as needs change.
Mum's been there since August & I can't speak highly enough of ALL staff. They ALL treat the residents with great care, kindness, patience & compassion. They also
extend that care to residents families.
We are kept informed of any changes medically and emotionally.
There's great, appropriate entertainment where everyone is encouraged, but not forced to join in.
There's a regular doctor, podiatrist & hairdresser who visit weekly.
Meals are homemade, delicious, nutritional & appropriately prepared for individual needs.
It's heartwarming how residents interact with each other as well as staff. Families are welcome & encouraged to visit any time .
It's a professionally run care home which genuinely is a caring home with wonderful staff who also bring joy & humour to the residents day. We're so lucky we found Cambrian lodge. Thank you to all of the staff.

Mum has been a resident at Cambrian Lodge since August 2025. It's a great responsibility isn't it, finding a home for a relative and obviously you only want the very best for them

She has settled in extremely well. We were very impressed in that prior to mum's stay here, the home were keen to get

to know her current needs, likes, dislikes and her background.

So when she did arrive, they did everything they could to reassure both mum and our family that she would be safe, well looked after and cared for and treated with respect and dignity.

The Firs

I cannot praise the staff (and South West Care Homes overall) enough for the care that my 103 year old mother has had since she arrived in The Firs a year ago. She was self funding, but the money ran out in April this year and I applied for funding, as she was below the savings threshold. Long story
short, it has taken until 2nd week in November for them to approve the funding, and in that time no-one was actually paying for my mother's room or care in the home. You might expect that a private company like SW Care Homes, would have asked me to take my mother out of the home, but they continued to support us - helping with the funding issues, until finally they agreed to provide funding. I am so very grateful to them for seeing us through this very anxious time.
Up until recently there was just one negative - historical in nature really, and that was that the food left quite a bit to be desired. However, that issue has now been addressed, so The Firs is now gets a perfect score!
Reply from Pip Smith, Registered Manager at The FirsBless you Jane, I am glad we have managed to help with funding issues etc. We enjoy having Mum here with us and appreciate your visits and support. Many thanks for a lovely review.

My mother-in-law, who has dementia, is receiving first-class care at this home. The staff are incredibly kind, patient, and attentive - they take the time to really understand her needs and always treat her with dignity and compassion. It's clear they genuinely care about the residents and go above
and beyond to make them feel safe and supported.

Meals are freshly prepared on site and always look delicious, with plenty of variety. Although she isn't eating much these days, the team are very understanding and do everything they can to encourage her and make mealtimes pleasant.

We feel reassured knowing she's in such capable and caring hands. It's a real comfort to see her so well looked after - truly first-class care all round.

Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at AshfieldThank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. Our team work hard to ensure every resident is treated with dignity, compassion, and understanding, so your kind words mean a great deal to all of us.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I was not expecting to find such an amazing Care Home for my cousin. Whilst she was sent from the Hospital I was hoping for something better however after being in there a few days & now a week I realise this was one of the better ones. The staff are amazing the Cook is 2nd to none and they could not
be more caring and kind if they tried. I have to say the meals look so appetising and they are always hot whereas a lot of places it's lukewarm. I can say in all honesty anyone who has any doubts of going into Ashfield let me put your mind at rest. It might not be the most amazing looking Care Home from the outside, but just go in and see the care and consideration and the respect that are given to the residents in there.
Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at AshfieldWe're truly delighted to hear that your cousin is settling in well at Ashfield, and that your experience with us has been so positive. Our team works hard every day to provide a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment where residents feel genuinely cared for - so it means a lot to hear that reflected in your words. I will be sure to pass on your kind comments to the staff team, especially our cook, who will be thrilled to know the meals have made such a great impression! We understand that the decision to move into a care home can be a difficult one, so your reassurance to others means more than you know. While we may not be the flashiest building on the outside, we're proud that what truly matters the care, warmth, and community inside shines through. Thank you once again for your lovely feedback and continued trust in us.

She is receiving

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Very attentive staff. Excellent and varied activities, twice every day. My aunt is very happy there and we'll cared for. Any problems and the staff keep the rest of the family informed. Excellent room and good views.
