Review of Ashfield from C L (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father has been a resident at Ashfield for almost 6 months. Moving him into a home was a difficult but necessary decision to make as a family and thankfully Nelly and her team at Ashfield helped to negotiate the move in a caring and understanding manner.
Having a family member with Alzheimer's can mean their behaviour and personality changes and the team at Ashfield especially Nelly, Donna, Ruth and Jasmin look after Dads changing needs so well with such patience as though he was their own loved one.
This means I can now visit as a daughter, not a carer, and enjoy my time with my Dad knowing he is getting the right care for his condition.
The meals are cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients and Dad is clearly enjoying them.

I am so grateful to Nelly and her team and would recommend Ashfield wholeheartedly.

Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at Ashfield

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. It means a great deal to the whole team. We understand how difficult the decision to move a loved one into care can be, and we're so pleased we could support you and your family through the transition. Your lovely words about Nelly, Donna,...

Review of The Firs from Jane V (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

The care at the Firs is excellent, and my mother has everything she needs. I feel totally confident leaving her there. The home is let down ONLY by the standard of food, which, while obviously adequate for sustenance, is fairly poor. Vegetables are often overcooked, the food is fairly repetitive.I understand that it is necessarily institutional, but I honestly think there is room for improvement within budget. I believe that possibly some training for the chefs could improve things. This has been an issue that I have regularly raised, but things haven't improved greatly. However, I want to stress, that this is the ONLY fault I find. The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble, no matter what my mother's problem may be.

Reply from Harriet Hawkins, Registered Manager at The Firs

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the care your mother receives and that our team provides the support she needs. I will pass on your kind comments to our care team. We sincerely appreciate your honesty regarding the food, We agree the food we provide...

Review of The Manor House from Steven B (Son of Resident) published on 19 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Following a hospital admission after a fall and temporary delirium resulting from a combination of dehydration, infection and antibiotics as well as physical frailty, my mum was temporarily placed in this care home to convalesce. The staff have been friendly and professional throughout and have looked after my mum very well. She herself has told me that they are very good. Out of the categories below 5 out of 5 in all except two which I rated 4 out of 5. Personal dignity because my mum felt slightly uncomfortable when she was washed or dressed by male members of staff though I told her this sort of thing is common in care settings. Happens in hospital all the time. And safety and security because there was a minor issue with the door to her room which was nevertheless quickly resolved.

Review of Kenwyn from C M (Friend of Resident) published on 17 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

The care staff that I have met were kind and helpful but there are not enough. Residents sometimes have to wait for a very long time for anyone to answer their bell. I appreciate carers can be tied up with a resident who is unable to do anything for themselves but my friend is paying for a service she is not getting.

Review of The Firs from R B (Son of Resident) published on 15 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum has been living in The Firs for some time now, and we are very happy with the care she receives. She is well looked after, and the staff are always friendly, kind, and respectful of her individual needs. They also do a great job of keeping us informed, which gives us real peace of mind.
Recently, there has been an increase in activities, which has been wonderful to see. It's especially nice seeing mum taking part and enjoying herself more.
The home itself is always well maintained, and the rooms are clean and comfortable, creating a pleasant and welcoming environment.

We truly appreciate the time, care, and effort that all the staff put into looking after our mum. It means a lot to our family.

My mother has been a resident since October 2025. Staff are very caring and attentive. The management staff are very approachable and have been knowledgeable regarding my mothers medical and personal needs. Food appears to be very good, my mother particularly enjoys the puddings. There also appears to be a programme of entertainment designed to stimulate mental wellbeing. All in all we are very happy with the care provided for my mother.

Reply from Nelly Dumitru, Manager at Ashfield

Review of Michaelstowe from J T (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My dad stayed at Michaelstowe Care Home for six weeks after leaving hospital, before he was well enough to return home. During that time he received excellent care. The staff showed great attention to detail and were always accommodating, caring, and supportive. They kept us well informed and communication was excellent throughout his stay, which gave our family real peace of mind. We are very grateful for the kindness and professionalism shown to my dad and would highly recommend Michaelstowe to others in a similar situation.

Review of Ashfield from Kat H (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mum has been a resident at Ashfield for around 18 months due to having dementia.
Ashfield regularly arrange activities and events that entertain, stimulate and engage the residents.
As a daughter, it makes me happy to see the level of enrichment that this home is providing for not only my mum but other residents as well.

From all of my experience and time spent at Ashfield, I can see that they provide a caring and inclusive environment for all residents.

Review of Ashfield from Belinda V (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Unfortunately I had to put my mother who has dementia in Ashfield home, followed by my stepfather who is in and out of hospital with Parkinson's and health issues, but relived they are together, each one has there own spacious bedroom.
I am full of admiration for the kindness, attention and so much patience from the team there.
So touched and grateful towards Nelly the manageresse that not only spends time with the patients , has a chat in Italian with my mother, and who several times went to visit in hospital my stepfather and gave a chance to have a chat and see my mother via video call with Nellys phone as my mother was so anxious beeing by herself.
Another bonus there, is the most delicious (I tried them) fresh meals cooked every day and so varied,
I find it is also an important issue.
It is so reassuring to leave my parents there as they are so well looked after.

I am very grateful , THANK YOU.

Mum was allocated a temporary placement here after discharge from hospital. She has stayed longer than expected but during that time she has been well cared for by kind staff.

I wish there were more staff sometimes ut know that running a care home and recruitment can be quite difficult.

Review of Ashfield from J H (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 January 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My beautiful mum lived at Ashfields for over four years and she was so very happy there. She made wonderful friends but also she loved the staff and they loved her in equal measure. Mum had several conditions including dementia and gradually her health deteriorated. Nothing was too much trouble for Ashfields so once we knew mum was coming to end of life care it was an easy decision to keep her at Ashfields where she was loved rather than ending her days in hospital. My sincere and deepest thanks go to all the staff at Ashfields for the love and care they gave not only to mum but also towards myself and other family members. Mum "Lizzie" thought the world of all of you. X

Great so see a new Activity Lead in the home, hopefully see a more engaged resident lounge as a result. Ideally would like to see more of management team - giving correct laundry back has improved but still room for more improvement. Would be great if a visitor space was made available rather than bedroom or public areas - since quiet room made into manager office, have either stood in lounge or sat on floor (staff were using conservatory for their break (would have mentioned this in meet with manager but have not managed to make a session)

Care and support for residents is second to none. I understand that with the amount of resident's things get misplaced/lost but expensive items such as glasses, and more personally teeth, need to be looked after more, as they are expensive to replace. Clothing needs to be put in the correct resident's rooms. This has improved but still occurs. An area where family can sit with residence would be appreciated. The addition of the Activities Coordinator is a major plus. The residents need to be stimulated as much as possible.
