Croft House is located in a scenic location, where it opened in 2011 as purpose-built care home. It includes en-suite accessible bathrooms and dedicated areas within the home for dementia care.

There is plenty to do thanks to a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator. Residents have access to IT facilities to stay in touch with friends and family further afield.

The philosophy of Croft House is that residents are supported to live as freely and independently as they wish, while having access to a highly-trained and friendly team of care staff who get to know each individual.

My mother has been a resident at Croft House for approximately 3 years. She has dementia and receives very patient help from the carers despite her behaviour being very challenging.

Mum has been at Croft House for 4 months. The staff 'got' Mum and her complex ways very quickly, and were able to relate in a realistic and empathetic way. Staff have been exceptionally supportive not only to Mum but to me as it was a difficult time and some days now can be difficult. Mum can be challenging
at times but staff at Croft are caring and professional with their approach and communication with me has been excellent. I feel happy with Croft House and staff there and would recommend this care provision.

Mum has been at Croft House for about a month. The staff have helped her settle in and she is happy in her new home. Croft House is well run, clean and tidy and very welcoming. As her family, we have been included in decisions and Mum's ongoing care. We are pleased that Mum is well cared for and happy.

My partner, who has dementia, has been living at Croft House for the past eight months. The pandemic has made his move into care a very challenging experience for his family, but I have been greatly impressed by the truly caring attitude of the staff and their response to any queries or concerns we
had. They ensured Covid safe family visits could continue throughout lockdown and have also assisted with Skype calls. As a regular visitor, I have met many of the staff who look after my partner, and without exception, they treat him with kindness, support him as necessary, and provide the safe environment he needs. I value their commitment and am very grateful for the care he receives at Croft House.

Due to the pandemic I have been unable to visit my mother, although my sister keeps me informed of my mother's health etc as she was visiting weekly before lockdown. One point I would like to find out about is the lack of a primary carer, which she was allocated with when she arrived nearly a year ago.
I must thank the home for dealing with my mother, when she fractured her hip this year, in getting her to the hospital and the care when returning to the home.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at Croft HouseThank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback for Croft House. It was a pleasure to speak with you recently about your mother's care and her ongoing keyworker arrangements, and we are glad that this provided you with the reassurance you needed. We hope you are looking forward to your visit next week, and we will be glad to see you then.
Best regards,
Somerset Care

Because of Lockdown, the 16th March 2021 was the first time I could visit my sister-in-law in her room. I thought the pods were a really good idea, as we could sit in comfort and chat. It would be nice to have a good look around and see what goes on. I appreciate this can't happen at the moment, the
staff have always been very friendly and helpful. I realise they must have been under a lot of pressure, due to Covid, but they have done a very good job.

My Mum spent the last eight months of her life at Croft House. My siblings and I are all very appreciative of the compassion, care and attention that the team showed Mum whilst she was living there. It is a difficult decision for a family to take but when Mum got to the point that she was no longer
safe in her own home, she had a two-week trial period living at Croft House, decided she liked it and moved in permanently. She was very content to be there, felt very safe and looked after and you helped to ensure that she spent her last months happily. A very sincere and heartfelt Thank You.

Our mother moved into Croft House just before Christmas, aged 94 as she was no longer able to live alone. We were nervous about this decision but this proved to be completely unnecessary. Mum was looked after extremely well and was so happy there until she passed away a few weeks ago. The staff were
marvellous throughout and we could not have been happier with her experience.

My mother spent her last days at Croft House and was very appreciative of the kind treatment she received from all who looked after her there. At a time when we were unable to visit her due to the coronavirus outbreak, it was most reassuring to my brothers and sister, to have my mother receiving such
excellent care. A big thank you to all the staff.

My 98-year-old, profoundly deaf friend is being cared for extremely well. She was greeted on arrival which made her feel very welcome and homely. The respect and care she is receiving is of a high standard. The room is very clean and tidy and the staff are taking extra care in communicating with her
as she only lip-reads. She is enjoying her food and I am so pleased she is happy at Croft House. Please thank all the managers and staff.

The home is warm in temperature and warm in atmosphere, always calm, the staff are kind, considerate and very understanding. The rooms are large and homely and can be added to with residents own furnishings. The care is second to none, and residents want for nothing.

My 90 yr old stepmother spent 12 months at Croft House whilst recuperating from a fall at home and awaiting her move from Somerset to Lancashire to be near to us. The facilities at Croft were excellent, the room light, airy and comfortable. There is a great deal of effort by staff and management to
provide social activities and entertainment. On her birthday they set aside a room for the family, made (not bought) a cake, bought her flowers and a card. The care provided, the attention to her needs, but more than anything - the warmth and friendliness and interest displayed by all staff towards her as a human being were outstanding. She possesses all her faculties and so conversation and relationships were of vital importance. Staff closest to her in regards to their duty of care and interaction were so obviously living their vocation. I can only hope that should I one day find myself in similar circumstances I am lucky enough to be looked after by people of a similar calibre.

Ever since my mother arrived here nearly two years ago both her and myself and my father have been treated with respect and courtesy.
We are kept informed of any change in her health. When she has had needed hospital treatment an ambulance has also been phoned immediately.
The general atmosphere is
warm and friendly.
All staff work very hard under, at times, difficult circumstances. I have peace of mind knowing Mum is so well cared for.

My Mum says she feels safe at Croft House and that all the staff are very kind. Mum enjoys the food and social activities although she prefers to watch rather than join in. It has a lovely community and family feel and visitors are made welcome at anytime, nothing is too much trouble. Family members
are well informed and kept updated regularly regarding the health of the resident.

Mum had been in Croft for 17 months until she passed away in Jan 2018. She had a lovely ground floor room, with direct access out into a communal garden with a small private area immediately outside her room. She had unrestricted views across the fields, so it was a lovely, open outlook with ever-changing
wildlife.
The carers and support staff are all very well trained and seemed to operate together as a coherent team, to provide a very professional yet cosy and caring environment. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble and there was always someone on hand to provide assistance if required.
Mum wasn't a great socialiser and didn't take full advantage of the many activities that happen daily and rarely used the lounge areas, but on our visits, all communal areas were spotlessly clean and comfortable with quiet areas and we were always made welcome with tea and coffee.
Croft seems to be very well managed and we always found the admin and management staff to be very efficient.
Thank you all.

As the Daughter-in-law of one of the residents at Croft House, I just wanted it to be acknowledged how grateful we are to all of the staff for working not just over the festive period but all year throughout to care for our loved ones and give us peace of mind that they are in a safe place and well
looked after. Having worked in the caring profession, l understand how difficult it can be at times but feel it takes special people to be carers. Bless you all and Happy 2018.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.779)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.779) out of 10 for Croft House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.779 for Croft House is calculated as follows: ( (259 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 326 Ratings = 4.779
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Croft House is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
