When you visit Grovelands the surroundings are well maintained and comfortable. The rooms are large (with en-suite) allowing residents to bring their own furniture to personalise their space. All the food is to a high and well-balanced standard. The overall environment is well above average but the
staff take the home to the extraordinary level of care. Based on solid professionalism they engage with each and everyone and make every effort to make this home a truly caring place. It is this alone that makes this particular Residential Care home excellent.

Our mother stayed twice as respite care before she became a full-time resident and this allowed mum to get to know home and staff (and vice versa) which has been very beneficial, management, staff and carers are professional, very approachable, cheery and very welcoming to mum and visitors. We recently
had a care review, and care plan recommended mum needed a "key" carer who has now been appointed and mum is benefitting from this extra personal care since her care requirements have changed since she first arrived at Grovelands.
Mum has made some good friends and enjoys a good laugh with both staff and residents.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.927)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.927) out of 10 for Grovelands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.927 for Grovelands is calculated as follows: ( (265 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.927
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grovelands is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I have worked at Grovelands since 2007 and feel a strong sense of pride in the outstanding reputation of the home and the dedicated staff team who are committed to caring for our residents. It is greatly important to me to support people to make our home their home, with photos and furnishings to truly personalise their environment. It is also important to support and encourage residents to maintain their interests and be introduced to new adventures and make new friends!

When residents choose to live at Grovelands I feel it is the beginning of a new chapter and journey in their lives, and my aim is to make this the happiest time possible and ensure that meaningful regular contact with their family and old friends is a priority.
I believe strongly in paying attention to detail and empowering staff to provide the best standard of residential and PETALS dementia care with compassion and dignity.

Visitors always comment on our incredibly friendly staff, the warm welcome they receive and the homely atmosphere. I am proud that residents and their families speak so highly of Grovelands and recommend us to their friends. I welcome feedback to enable changes and continual improvements to be made with the service.
