Reviews

8.9 The Cedars has a Review Score of 8.9 (8.883)

The Review Score of 8.9 (maximum of 10) for The Cedars is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Cedars in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.373 for The Cedars is calculated as follows: ( (102 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 201 Ratings = 4.373

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.51 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cedars is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 9.8 positive Reviews (49 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 9.8 Target = 0.510

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I have been a volunteer for a few months now and I enjoy helping out, doing craft lessons, joining in lots of activities with the residents. All staff members are polite and helpful when I need advice or anything. I am getting some experience to hopefully become a carer myself one day.

The Cedars appears to be run very well. The staff are all very nice and always seem to have time to listen to any comments we may have. My mum has a lovely room and gets looked after very well. The Cedars is close to dads house, so it means he can visit most days. The family are all very happy with the Cedars and hope everything stays the same while mum is there.

The Cedars care home is a very friendly 'home from home'. The management and staff led by the manager and her head of care, keep a happy ship. Every requirement of the residents is met and often exceeded to a high degree, and the devotion to the residents from the carers is exemplary.

Our Mother entered the Cedars at the end of January 2016. Sadly mum passed away in April 2016 our first impressions of the Cedars was great. The staff were very warm and welcoming an mum felt at home, also the Carers and Staff were professional, caring, respectful of mums needs and treated her with dignity.
And I don't want to leave out the kitchen Staff they were wonderful what ever mum wanted for breakfast, lunch, dinner they went out of there way to provide that.
The Cedars and all the Staff and Carers really were awesome, clean rooms, clean bedding. If you are considering or looking into residential care for a loved one I implore you to look into the Cedars at Purton.

From the first visit to the home in October me and my Auntie felt very welcomed all the staff so much so I would be very happy to come here myself if needed. The staff go beyond the call of duty and the home has a lovely atmosphere. Very clean and tidy at all times day and night. Please keep up the first class service. Thank you.

My mother is a resident in the Cedars Care Home, she has been diagnosed with dementia and recently was convinced her room was on the ground floor, but she has lived on the 1st floor for four years. She was so upset about going upstairs again the head of care said they could put mum in a room on the ground floor if it made her happy, so with the help from head of care, two housekeepers and the maintenance man and myself we moved mum downstairs that very day, mum was so happy she no can sit by her window and look out and see people coming and going. I cant thank the staff enough.

Since moving mother in during mid November, I am amazed at the change in her outlook. She had become very isolated and reclusive. Thanks to the dedication and friendly attitude of the staff she is much happier and content and mixes with others and both talks to them and sings with them.
Prior to moving in she hasn't been out of her flat for 2 and a half years, now in less than 6 weeks she has attended a local coffee morning and been on a day trip to the garden centre. She even sleeps in a bed now which she hasn't done for 6 years.
'Amazing' thanks to the management and staff for a very caring and professional attitude to care. Top marks, thank you.

Generally very good permanent staff but not enough of them. Too much reliance on agency staff - not good. The home needs thoroughly updating, especially the chairs in public rooms. On speaking to staff the morale is very low and staff constantly leave - very bad for residents, you cannot get used to new members. Too many agency staff. The home manager is gradually improving the home (she has only been there a year). There has been no permanent home manager for two years.

Marietta Cranfield, Home Manager at The Cedars responded to this review on 22 Sep 2015:

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and I am pleased that you are noticing the improvements we are gradually implementing. As you rightly say, this does take time, but our recruitment drive is bearing fruit and we expect our use of agency staff to reduce as a result. As I have mentioned previously, we are reviewing the replacement of older furniture and a refurbishment programme, so I hope you will see the benefits of this in due course. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me about any other aspects - we very much welcome ideas and comments which will help us enhance the lives of our residents.

The overall care of our family member is very good and the staff are welcoming, friendly and caring. On occasions we have not been kept fully up to date or informed on our family members health, however this has recently changed for the better (staff shortages and staff changeover times). The staff worked very hard to provide entertainment and experiences for the residents and have made many changes to the main lounges etc which have improved the experience for the residents and visitors.

Thank you very much for your review, which recognises the improvements we are making at The Cedars. We welcome comments and observations from all visitors to the home as it helps us to ensure we are doing the right things to provide the best service, and most comfortable living environment for our residents. Please do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything else you feel we can do in this regard.

Have found the staff to be friendly to my mother and myself. The home is clean overall but there is a need to update and replace chairs in the lounge area and restaurant as they are to easily stained and are difficult to clean and are not kept clean and too old. On the whole permanent staff are very good but there is too much reliance on agency staff as they don't know the residents they lose the personal touch.

Thank you for your review, which is appreciated. I am glad to have had the opportunity to discuss with you our plans for improving the home, which will include options to replace older furniture. With regard to your specific point about the chairs, please be reassured that they are regularly cleaned. We also discussed your comment around staffing and I hope my explanation with regard to our recruitment plans has gone some way to allaying your concerns.

visited on Wednesday and was spoken to by all the caring team and made to feel welcome. My friend was sleepy and in a wheelchair but comfortable I had just been given a cup of tea. After having had a bath she was very tidy and dressed in clean clothes. The breakfast room was clean in the main the chairs were cleaner but could do with another clean. But this is being addressed.
