  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.596 for Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (162 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 250 Ratings = 4.596

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 16 positive Reviews (80 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 16 Target = 0.250

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Our mother spent 3.5 years at Longbridge Deverill. During this time, she was cared for with respect and dignity. Staff during this time have remained largely unchanged which allowed the whole team to get to know Mummy so well. When it became necessary to move my mother to a different wing (due to the increasing demands that her dementia brought) this was done quickly and smoothly.
As a family, we have celebrated many happy occasions at Longbridge Deverill: birthdays, wedding anniversaries, Christmas, Easter etc. It was a real home. Her room was comfortable and clean, the activities provided enjoyable (we loved Holy Communion and singing!) Mummy was always beautifully clean and cared for without one pressure sore over the years, a remarkable achievement as she was so sedentary. The garden was wonderful and Mummy got real pleasure from being able to sit outside. We feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful nursing home which made Mummy's last years so bearable. Thank you.

This care home is amazing. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff have endless patience. Mum is well cared for 24/7 and we can sleep at night knowing she is safe and loved.
There are lots of activities, mum sadly does not take part in many but the staff do try to get mum to attend. The food is excellent and mum is kept clean and smelling fresh at all times. Well done and thank you.

Our mother had been at the care home for about three years. The staff seemed to quickly get to know her and she settled in quickly considering the change of situation from living on her own with visiting carers, to becoming a resident with various characters. The staff were consistent, friendly and helpful. We visit 2-3 times a week and also take mum out at various times (usually visited mid morning and mid afternoon but sometimes later) Lovely to be able to visit at any time of the day or night. Staff seemed to know when there may be problems and guided the resident to a quieter area. Mum thoroughly enjoyed the activities (she wasn't very mobile) and one to ones with staff. She had a choice of when to get up and go to bed, where to be (own room, lounge, library) old building so sometimes problems, lovely grounds.
We were happy mums last years were made comfortable and carefree and she was able to be near us.

My father was admitted to Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home for respite and rehab after an acute hospital admission. He had debilitating Parkinson's and we had hoped to move him home with live-in care but it became obvious this would not be feasible. The care we experienced from all the staff was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Visitors have all given us positive feedback including his hairdresser who was able to use the salon and his physio who worked closely with the team. Once he decided to stay, we were encouraged to bring in familiar items from home. At Christmas when we planned a big family gathering we were able to use one of the lounges and this is a very happy memory for us all. As a retired nurse myself, I was impressed with how proactive all the staff were- whenever I made a suggestion they were already ahead of me. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated but the care he and we received was compassionate at all times. Everyone at Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home made his "last lap" the very best it could have been.

I have very mixed feelings.
I was pleased how the manager came across and was impressed on our visit a week later with the cosy, homely feeling the home offered. My father who suffered from dementia was admitted a week later.
Dad always seemed happy, well fed and cared for on each visit and the staff we met were very pleasant. However, one particular visit we were looking for a member of staff to let us out and found one asleep on a settee in the corridor, not very professional.
Unfortunately dad passed away in hospital and although we gave 2 days notice to collect his belongings (which were not packed) we discovered his bed unmade, a dirty cups, a plate and a pair of underpants in his room as well as personal belongings missing, for which I had to argue to have these posted on. Not once since has the home made any contact offering condolences or words of kindness which has upset my mum and made her think twice about dads care and is it foremost a businesses venture. A sad end.

Karen Mandle, Registered Manager at Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home responded to this review on 11 Jan 2018:

I was deeply saddened to read your comments and concerns that were published on 11th January 2018 and would like the opportunity to respond to you personally.

We as a professional, caring service provision often care and support individuals' with very high complex dementia needs, strive to promote this care and support within a friendly and homely environment.

I, and my senior members of staff encourage staff to sit with each resident throughout the day and in doing so hope to encourage a sense of belonging and inclusion that we feel when we are in our own homes. I also promote and encourage staff to identify when residents require their own personal space because, not everyone likes or are used to group living situations and as you can appreciate it can be difficult for residents to settle particularly, if they have been diagnosed with a dementia.

There are times when residents do 'potter' into other residents bedrooms, leaving or taking bits and pieces and on the occasion you wrote about 'we' should have locked the door and for not doing so please accept not only my apologies but the apologies of my staff.

Staff are requested to search without infringing on the rights of other residents' as soon as it has been identified that belongings have unintentionally gone missing by having been taken by another resident, and when found these belongings are returned to the relevant resident or family.

With regards to very sad occasions which we feel, when a resident or family member passes away, we have found on experience that relatives wish to pack and keep their loved ones personal belongings themselves so I must apologise on this occasion we were incorrect. The last thing we would wish to do is to create further sadness and feelings of loss and bereavement at this most sensitive time.

Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home is a true jewel in the crown and more importantly a total savior. After three short stays in local homes, my mother experienced poor treatment you need to know this when you take a placement! We then found Longbridge Deverill House where we were able to place mum, briefly a purpose-built clean beyond belief. Totally professional establishment with super, warm on suite rooms with super food. The staff were amazing, very well qualified and cared! The communication alone good and her general care was excellent. As a family, we would recommend without question of risk it's just the best you will find.

My mum who has dementia has stayed at Longbridge Deverill House for day care and respite care over the last 2 years .
The care at this home is by far the best we have come across. The staff greet mum with love and make her instantly feel at home.
The home is run by everyone, what I mean by that is the staff and the residents feel able to talk to the management, in turn making sure everyone is happy at work and in their own home.
When I leave my mum to go and charge my batteries. I leave her with such a lovely bunch of careers who WILL look after her in every way and who ARE given the time to care for all the ladies and gentlemen at Longbridge.
It's a lovely place. It's not easy to have to decide someone's care for them, and you just want to do your best.
Longbridge is a good home, ok not a new building but a warm loving home and the people inside make it that.

My father was a resident here for about 16 months after a long and distressing stay in a hospital. His experience (and mine) at Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home couldn't have been more of a contrast. The home is a lovely environment; it's clean and well-run and the standard of nursing care is excellent. The chef and staff went above and beyond to prepare menus that would appeal to dad. But the best quality of this home is what I can only call a 'culture of kindness'. All the staff are caring, patient and treat residents as adults entitled to dignity and compassion. They made my dad's last year not only comfortable and reassuring but also gave him a sense of having a home. I would recommend Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home without reservation.

From the first enquiry, I was impressed by the staff at Longbridge Deverill House whose kindness and empathy made a difficult decision much easier. The house itself feels more like a real home than a residential home. That my relative settling in so easily has been a great relief, as has her enjoyment and approval of the food (she is very discerning!). Being able to visit at any time, and with our dog, is a blessing. We enjoy quality time together. My relative arrived with shaken confidence following a fall and a stay in the hospital, but the kind and enabling help from all the staff has restored that confidence resulting in much-improved mobility.
All the things that proved difficult at home, even with a live-in carer, are no longer worries. That I can discuss my relative's well-being and progress at any time with the Manager or members of staff is so reassuring. The staff are so friendly and treat the residents with such respect. I look forward to visiting!

My mother suffers from mixed dementia/Alzheimer's. She lived alone in a very unsuitable property and the care at home team could no longer keep up with her needs. She moved into the home, initially for respite care 6 months ago.
As one would expect her mental condition remains a problem, but one that the staff and management take completely in their stride. Physically she looks better than she has for years!
She loves the food.
There is nothing to give a negative review about, but the biggest positive by a mile must be the staff and management.

My 92-year-old mother was at Longbridge Deverill House from October 2016 until her recent death. She was treated with great care and kindness throughout. The staff are friendly and treated her with dignity. The food was excellent and staff took care to make sure she ate enough. During her final illness, they were kind and considerate and kept us well informed throughout.

I would like to thank the whole team at Longbridge Deverill House for the superb care they gave my mum. Sadly she passed away a week ago, having been a resident for just over three years. Particularly in recent months, everyone afforded mum such care keeping her with them until the end. They treated her with love and kindness, retaining her dignity and allowing her to spend her last days surrounded by warmth and loving care.
They have also given me peace of mind at such a hard time. I could not have asked for more and I cannot thank them all enough.

My mother entered Longbridge Deverill House for respite care originally. Decided to stay. Unfortunately, she died after a few weeks but during those weeks the staff treated her and us with the utmost kindness. We only had to make a passing comment and it was acted upon. The food was excellent. Apart from the shabby decor in the communal areas I could find no fault and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home.

For the brief period that my sister was in the nursing home she received every courtesy, care and consideration. I had brought her to UK by private ambulance from Belgium on 21st April. She died on 28th May. The staff took the trouble to find French speakers into which language my sister frequently lapsed. My sister's condition was so frail on arrival that she was unable to make a recovery in spite of the best efforts of the nursing staff which I observed very frequently.

It is over a period now of some 2 years, first at Longbridge House and then onto Longbridge Nursing Home, my wife has always been cared for with loving care, the utmost dignity and attendance to her need by all the staff.
I have always been listened to being at any time concerned of her needs and worries. I myself have always been welcomed by staff, I see her almost on a daily basis on my visits.
I can see that almost daily (except Sat/Sun) the staff have some form of entertainment for all the residents that with to park-take. Thank you all very much.

My impressions were very positive. The reception area was pleasant without being overly pretentious and the staff very helpful. The corridors were wide and the residents rooms, spacious, tastefully, furnished with floor to ceiling windows. There was no trace of the odours often associated with care homes. The staff were at all times friendly and efficient and they displayed endless patience with even the most challenging residents. They managed my step-mothers complete immobility in a caring way always doing their best to make sure her dignity was not compromised, monitor in each room ensured any unusual incidents day or night would be investigated. Well-behaved pets were welcomed and my step-mothers much loved dog was a regular and popular visitor. When my step-mother was in her final hours a member of staff was with her at all times.

In the two years my friend has been in residential care I have witnessed nothing but kindness and professionalism from all staff, the unit manager and senior carer deserve a special mention for setting the high standards that all other staff follow. Visitors are made very welcome, the food is excellent, activities and outings are suitable and enjoyable, all in all an excellent place to live. The house itself is not modern but it is extremely homely and doesn't smell; the garden is lovely and the residents are encouraged to sit outside in good weather (sun hats and lotion provided), there are chickens in the garden and cats wander about the house. When the end of her life came my friend could not have been in a better place, she didn't face death alone and died with dignity knowing she was loved and cared for.

My wife entered this home on 22 December 2015, suffering from dementia. I am very happy/pleased with the care that is provided. After some falls she had been sent to hospital for full check up, or in minor case has been seen by GP and nurse. I have been kept informed. Social activities are in place and effective, and enjoyable. Staff are always polite, helpful and caring. All rooms are clean, tidy and comfortable. Heating is adequate. Visitors are always welcome and not restricted to set visiting hours. Professional visitors are hairdresser, religious ministers, chiropodist and GP doctor appointments are made when necessary. Very good. 10/10.

I chose Longbridge Deverill House for my mum just over two years ago. The first time I walked in, I knew it was the right place. The atmosphere is warm and caring and my mum receives excellent care, individually planned to cater for her changing needs as her dementia progresses. She is treated with warmth and her dignity is maintained at all times.

Friends and family are welcomed and encouraged to join in with events. We are kept informed of any problems or issues. There is great importance placed on the happiness and well-being of all the residents. I always feel that I can approach the staff with any concerns I may have, they make a sad situation easier to cope with and there are smiles and laughter to enjoy and remember.

My partner went into Equality Care in December 2015 from a mental health hospital whilst she had a three month stay. I feel the home is the best I could have wished for. Very clean with excellent facilities and a real sense of care from all the staff and management nothing is too much trouble with three course lunch each day. In the dining room all meals are high quality, all rooms are cleaned daily, I visit every other day and have has no reason to complain about anything they are just very helpful people. A great care home with a high standard of care.

My father was a resident for 11 months. He suffered from Alzheimers and was treated with care, compassion and dignity at all times. The staff were outstanding in their treatment of him and all others. They took the time to get to know him and us, his family and I would not fault one thing. Dad sadly passed away in Nov 15 and chose to remain at the home for his end of life care. I was welcomed warmly and supported throughout and being there at the end was precious.
