Obviously since the Covid-19 outbreak, I have been unable to visit my mother, but I was impressed at the speed to which they took measures to prevent any spread in the initial stages by stopping visits. Prior to the shutdown, I was more than satisfied by the treatment my mother was receiving and by the way they are keeping in touch.

Reply from Sue Houldey, Operations Director at Ashbury Lodge

Thank you for your review. Coate Water Care took steps very early in March to keep our residents protected and well. This has been a difficult time for relatives who miss their regular visits. We have facilities such as mobile phones and skype to support contact with relatives, and hope to be able to support safe visits very soon.

My Mother is well cared for and she is happy with her room and facilities provided. Staff are kind and caring. She is treated with respect and dignity.

I do feel that communication from the care could be improved. More feedback would be a way of rectifying this.

Ashbury Lodge is a good place, staffed by an excellent team who is dedicated to caring for their residents. My Dad has lived there for 18 months and his overall health, thanks to them, has improved in this time. During lockdown, we have been kept fully informed throughout. This is a sign of good leadership at the home. The two elements combined have contributed to keeping COVID-19 at bay and we thank them all very much.

Overall, the standard of care is very good. The staff are competent and caring. The food is a decent quality and regular meals and drink are provided, including assisted eating as which my mother requires. We are happy to assist with personal care which is appreciated by the staff. The staff are friendly, listen to you and act on any small problem it difficulty. We are very happy with the home for all my mothers needs.

My mother-in-law is so well cared for at Ashbury Lodge. The staff do their best for her and the other residents, not just for their basic needs but also to try to enrich their lives.

They treat her and the others with kindness, patience and humour. They also let us know quickly of any changes e.g falls. The home is clean and well cared for and the laundry is quick and efficient. Food is excellent and the residents are helped with eating if necessary. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the care here.

My mother has dementia, after transferring from a non-suitable home found Ashbury Lodge. Best move. Very clean, tidy, organised home, all staff, any level from reception to cleaner, maintenance, all the same, open friendly, honest hard working. Nothing is ever too much to ask for, wish I had got Mum here years ago, not wasted her life at previous home as time now very precious to us with Mum. Best care home I've ever known.

As I returned with mother to Ashbury Lodge after a little outing, she appeared relieved to be back. She said, "please don't ever put me in a home, I like it here and don't want to move". All the staff are very friendly. The entertainment lady, although overworked, has really worked hard to help her settle. The maintenance man always has the time for a cheery chat. The manager also chats and mother thinks he is an old friend. Mother heartily enjoys her meals and there is always plenty. Her only complaint is that the view from her window is onto the back car park and bins.

My husband has been resident at the home since February 2018. Manager, staff at the home have worked extremely hard to settle him. I cared for my husband for 25 years at home ever since he returned from hospital due to having a stroke. My husband is now 95 years old with senile dementia. I visit him on a regular basis and I can thank the staff at the care home for looking after him.

Today 16/8/18 I took my dad out for 2 hours in afternoon on return to find his bed not made and his toilet not emptied or room cleaned. This distressed my dad very much and this was the afternoon as well with him gone for 2 hours. I would of expected it to have been done especially for hygiene reasons as well. This is not first time I've asked for it to be emptied.

Dad was in a temporary care home and I was concerned this move would upset him. He settled well and although he was confused the staff really made him welcome. The atmosphere always feels calm and relaxed which goes towards the residents feeling calm and content. Since his move here Dad's behaviour seems far more consistent.

My family and I never wanted to see dad in a residential home. However, the care and kindness he is shown makes it so much easier. We visit him every day and welcome the 'open door' policy. With my husband working shifts it is often difficult to come in the daytime so evenings is when we can come. The staff always welcome us and never make us feel bad about visiting at 8pm! Many thanks to you all, a brilliant, caring team.

My father was admitted for emergency 8 weeks care by social services due to his Dementia.
The staff were incredibly sensitive to our distress and made the transition much more bearable.
They are always friendly and caring to all the residents, I am always made to feel welcome whenever I visit.

I have only praise for this care home and the respect and dignity they give to residents.

Since my husband has been on indefinite repsite care in Ashbury Lodge, the total care he has received has been second to none. Both he and I know all the staff who make me so welcome and I have complete respect and admiration for every member of staff. My complete wish is that he can remain where he is permanent - he is so settled, giving me great comfort, knowing how well he is cared for.

The Management expects the activity organiser to do the impossible job of looking after two floors of residents during the long absence of the 2nd organiser; expecting care staff (already overstretched) to fill the gap. Group activities are urgently needed to stimulate residents who, otherwise, pass the day with closed eyes.

Reply from Tracy Ferrier, Manager at Ashbury Lodge

Thank you very much for your feedback. The home continues to advertise for an additional Activities co-ordinator for Ashbury Lodge to which it is very important to ensure the right person is appointed. In the meantime, the home continues to operate above our staffing numbers to ensure that...

I would definitely recommend this care home. My mother has only been there a couple of weeks but the change in her is amazing. She is clean, well looked after and the variety of food on offer is really good. The home itself is clean and well kept, as are all the residents. I have found all the staff to be very caring and extremely helpful.

I am usually the first face to visitors/ professionals who come to the home. My role is to support one manager and one deputy and deal with all the administration work for both the residents and staff in the home.

I enjoy my job as it's varied but extremely busy, staff are always willing to help out cover shifts when I ask, so the home is run effectively. When I have time, I enjoy getting involved with the residents’ activities and seeing how much they get from what we do for them.
