My Mother spent over 9 years at Charnwood after her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and ended her days there peacefully under their loving care. During her time there, she was beautifully looked after, well-fed, and part of their family, even though she was unable to join in the activities due to her dementia.
We chose the home initially because Mother was a lifelong supporter of MHA as a stalwart Methodist and her faith was vital to her well-being. I am grateful to the staff and chaplain for their support at the time of Mother’s death, and during the whole of her stay there.

My mother was resident for 6 months, she was so well looked after that she improved immensely whilst there. The staff are brilliant and really care, they are always helpful and cheerful.
The facilities were always clean and bright, there were always activities going on to join in if you wished to.
The
management and the Chaplain were also very supportive of my mother and us as relatives.

Mum was on respite in Charnwood House in August 2023. We were very happy with her room, the staff, friendliness, cleanliness and general day to day functioning of the house. Mum was happy with food, staff etc. We felt that there could have been more activities done with Mum, also that when she became
a bit unwell there was some confusion over doctors visits, outcomes etc. Generally, overall we were satisfied with care provided.

Our dad came to Charnwood House Care Home in November 2022 after an emergency hospital admission and after his wife had had a fall five weeks before. The care and compassion that has been shown to him and to his family can't be properly described. We are getting used to a new normal as a family and
any questions we have had, any moments when we have questioned what we are doing have been dealt with calmly and, most importantly, with a level of kindness that will never be forgotten. Thank you.

After receiving a devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer's and no longer being able to stay in her own home, my mother-in-law became a resident of Charnwood House Care Home. The staff were fantastic and our family cannot thank them enough for their care, patience and support they gave, both to my mother-in-law
and also to our family. The staff and management were always available for an update or even just a chat at any time. The rooms are lovely, clean, fresh and homely. There is definitely a 'nice feel' to the place. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law had a spell in hospital and the care, or lack of care, in there made it impossible to recover from. We were lucky enough that her last few days were spent back at Charnwood House and she passed away peacefully in a very dignified manner. The staff were superb right to the very end, we could not recommend Charnwood House highly enough.

Mother is very happy with the home. She is content with her room. I find the staff very caring and Mother relates with the carers. All the staff, from managers to carers, should all take credit in looking after Mother. They do a lot of exercise and entertaining. Thank you for all your efforts.

The staff throughout are happy, pleasant, welcoming and helpful. They do a fantastic job caring, supporting, engaging and entertaining with all their clients. They are all very well looked after in an amazing large, clean environment. The food is good, and their needs are met during the hot weather
with lots of cold top-ups, drinks, ice, etc. The activities meet the needs of each individual clean, with something to engage in most days. Excellent throughout. So glad we chose Charnwood House for our mum. Thank you.

Mum has been in Charnwood House Care Home for a year now, took her a while to settle in but she is doing great. Staff are very good. Mum is a lot happier now, seeing her with staff laughing and joking is great. Charnwood House is a very nice place, everyone is looked after really well.

My mum-in-law has lived at Charnwood House since February 2019. It was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made and we did not find those first few months easy. The staff however helped us all to feel confident in the care and support she was receiving. Whenever we had a query or concern staff
were (and still are) happy to discuss it with us. They also communicate with us if there is information to pass on or my MIL is unwell. My mum in law is treated with dignity and respect. We have no hesitation in recommending Charnwood.

Charnwood House Care Home is clean, bright and airy but, more importantly, the staff are incredibly kind and patient. I know my mum is receiving good care in terms of activities, personal care and food etc. but I also see the kindness and dignity afforded to her by all staff I have encountered. Living
overseas, this is a great comfort to me.

After two years of lockdown, we as a family are grateful to all staff for looking after Dad, keeping him clean, well-fed and, most of all, happy.
The atmosphere in the home is welcoming and pleasant. All the staff are friendly and helpful. It makes our visits pleasant and helps us to cope with the

Dad moved into Charnwood House Care Home nine months ago, it was the hardest but best decision we have made. He is so happy here having people around him all day long, people who are bright, sunny and caring, who try to stimulate and encourage Dad with things he used to enjoy, singing and playing the
mouth organ (which he hadn't wanted to do for some considerable time) and to join in with group activities. Due to the pandemic, things are far more difficult for the staff with restricted visiting whilst keeping residents safe and protected but, without exception, they have been totally professional. They are helpful to us as a family, trying to accommodate our wishes to see Dad but keeping within the safeguarding rules. As a family, we really couldn't hope for anything better for Dad and can't recommend Charnwood highly enough.

Charnwood House Care Home is a wonderful, clean, friendly home. My father-in-law has really settled in well with the help of your wonderful staff. He's gained weight, clean and happy. Management always has time for you and all staff always have a smile on their face. I can't think of a better place
for him to see out his days. I sleep easy knowing he is safe and cared for. Thank you.

I would like to thank all the staff for the excellent way they cared for my mother for her respite break. My mother said all the staff were very kind and helpful, the food was lovely and she is looking forward to her next visit. My mother has health and mobility issues so it is a relief to know as her
carer that we can both have a break and I know she is safe and happy while in the care of Charnwood House Care Home staff.

My auntie has received very professional and personal care throughout her time at Charnwood. My view is that generally the care home can be considered a centre of excellence. End of life care was exceptional and very caring for my aunt plus relatives.

This has been a very difficult time during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Charnwood House has dealt with the situation admirably. All management and staff have been extremely caring and thoughtful, keeping us informed of our loved ones under these very distressing times. Although the residents have had
to be kept in isolation for most of the time, carers have tried to keep them stimulated as much as possible, without the usual joint activities. Charnwood House runs like a well-oiled machine and I would recommend it to anyone.

My mother died in this care home and I can't believe how uncaring the home was towards my mother's death. They didn't even send a with sympathy card to my family, proving they're only interested in your money, I mean how much would a card have cost them. Once gone forgotten.

Our Chaplain usually helps us with this but, during this pandemic, we have had fewer colleagues available in the home. We are truly sorry for the distress this has clearly caused but please be assured that all of our residents and relatives are special to us. You and your mother are not forgotten.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2018

Claire Picchi is the care home Manager at MHA Charnwood House and brings with her a strong background in operational and service management. She has been part of the MHA family for 7 years, initially working as a Service Administration Manager before stepping into an Operational Support Manager role. Most recently, Claire embraced the opportunity to lead Charnwood House, and although this is her first role within a care home setting, she instantly knew it was where she truly belonged.


Claire is passionate about creating a caring, supportive environment where every resident is valued and encouraged to live later life well.
