My brother in law was taken ill initially physically then mentally in November 2024 it has been a very stressful time for both care home staff and myself, the support and care I have received from Woodthorn staff and management has been excellent, they have all gone above and beyond their roles. This
is not the first time this has happened to my brother in law whilst in Woodthorn and previous times all staff and management were very supportive and caring. My brother in law has been a resident at Woodthorn for over 5 years, he was very reluctant to go into a home initially but within a few months he was a different person eating well taking interest in daily life no longer lonely and depressed, with the exception of his episodes of illness he is very happy there I cannot fault the sensitive approach they have for their residents and and I have always found management and carers to be very approachable and caring would definitely recommend Woodthorn

My mum initially was placed in Woodthorne in a bed to assess. After a couple of weeks it was decided she needed full time care, it was agreed that she would stay there. She has been there over 12 months. We visit often and nothing is too much trouble. Mum enjoys the meals, and has an affection for
all of the carers. It gives us great comfort to know that mum is being looked after and the staff treat mum like she is part of their family. Thank you so much to the staff for giving mum all that she needs.

Having made the difficult decision to place my dad into a care home it was a worry if we had chosen the right place and how dad would settle in. We could not have chosen a better place than Woodthorne, the staff are so caring and treat the residents like family and thanks to them Dad has settled and
is content, he has nothing but praise for the staff and the food which is a great comfort to our family.

Grandad had to be admitted into care following the unexpected death of my nan back in March. He was unsafe to be on his own at home.
All of the staff made him feel welcome and cared for.
I work in the healthcare setting and I visit care facilities daily but I am so impressed with the care at Woodthorne.
Grandad feels like he is on a permanent holiday. All of the care staff genuinely care, it's not just a job for them. It's a lovely safe environment. Although Grandad has dementia he speaks very highly of the care, his 3 meals a day and the fact his bed is comfy! He feels safe and cared for and for me, this is the most important thing in the world!

My grandfather has lived at Woodthorne since late 2022. He was originally given a short-term placement after being discharged from the hospital but liked it so much that he asked to be made a permanent resident.
The staff really took the time to get to know my grandad to ensure they could cater for
all his needs and foibles. The relationship that the staff have with my grandad is such a reassurance, they're like extended family.
Fast forward almost 2 years and as a family, we couldn't be happier. The care and compassion of the staff is undeniable. Nothing is too much trouble and despite my grandad being as stubborn as a mule, they're understanding and so patient. They encourage him to enjoy every day, even if he's not feeling great.
If you're looking for a home that is ultra-modern, this won't be for you. If you want a home that offers great care and a warm, friendly atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend it.

In November 2023 by default I found what I now know to be the best home in the area.
After visiting numerous homes within the area Woodthorne came out tops on meeting all the requirements.
5 months ago when Mom went into Woodthorne I didn't think she would be with us for the New Year.
It's now March
2024 and the care provided in this short amount of time has improved Mom's health and welfare so much that I now believe she'll be here for a few more Christmases.
The staff are all amazing and you can see how they all genuinely care for each individual resident.
From food preferences to individual needs the staff make sure these needs are attended and met without a blink of the eye.
Management are supportive and empathic to an unsettling time in any family.
Woodthorne provides excellent homely care.

My mother was treated really bad here, she is 87 years old and has dementia. Mom was in this home for 8 weeks and it is not safe. I would not recommend this home to anyone. The carers are kind and work hard but the management are rude and not caring. The home gave mom notice and told her to get out.
They talked awful to Mom and caused her to get angry with them and Mom did not like it there she was always sad. The entertainment is non-existent and the home is very poorly run and the food is awful.
Reply from Sally Chahal, Manager at Woodthorne Care Home

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your mother's experience in our home. I genuinely value your feedback, and I'm sorry to learn about her dissatisfaction. I'd appreciate the chance to have a conversation with you to better understand and address the concerns raised. It seems there is a difference between what you've said, and the care provided, and I want to ensure we can resolve any misunderstandings/issues effectively.

I would highly recommend Woodthorne, staff are friendly and always available to answer any questions, and they keep relatives informed of any changes. The food is homemade and always looks delicious and plentiful. The manager is available and always hands-on. Woodthorne definitely strives to make residents
feel at home and in a safe environment. Would highly recommend you take a look if deciding to make the difficult decision to place your loved one into placement.

We were lucky enough to stumble across Woodthorne Care Home, it was an emergency placement. After just a few days we knew this was the place for our mom. The staff are very good, polite, patient, hard-working and caring and keep us informed about everything that goes on with Mom. The home is like a
'home', it's very comfortable for the residents, with comfy chairs, TV, radio, home-cooked meals and activities. It's clean and well-maintained. I would highly recommend this home for anyone who is in doubt about putting any of their loved ones into care.

My mom went into Woodthorne Care Home earlier this year and settled almost straight away. She is well looked after and cared for.
The staff are very caring and friendly. They are very accommodating if Mom has appointments and will accompany her on these visits. Mom is very happy in there so I can't
ask for anymore!

I became a resident around two and a half years ago in a bad state owing to depression and anxiety, was eating very little. With the wonderful meals served here, I've regained weight. Also, my condition has improved thanks to the boss who has always been patient and understanding on the many bad days.
The seniors and carers have also been friendly and caring and are wonderful at their duties. Lastly, the meals served to us were very good thanks to the two cooks. In general, a very good and well-kept care home.

After reaching the decision to move my dad into a care home, we as a family, were quite anxious about finding the right place for him. We stumbled across Woodthorne while searching on the Internet. I had called a few homes by this point and was getting quite frustrated. When I rang I found the staff
were surprisingly friendly and helpful. We visited the next day and the staff were just as friendly in person, the residents seemed happy and content and the whole place had a homely feel to it. Staff were more than happy to chat with us and we stayed for a couple of hours.

My dad has been in the home for a few weeks now, he has settled in really well. He is much happier in himself and most definitely calmer. His appetite is much better now and he clearly enjoys the meals provided there. Staff are all lovely, always keeping us informed and making us feel welcome. I am really pleased we stumbled across Woodthorne, it is a lovely place with a real homely feel and great staff.

On behalf of myself and my partner, we would like to say how much care and attention was given during my mother in law's time here as a resident. The care and dedication was so wonderful and go out of their way to make the residents, including us as relatives, so welcomed and go out of their way, including
right up until the very end of her death. They will sit in with the residents until the relatives arrive, keep you always informed, offer you a drink, even at the most awful time of a relative's death, the carers are still dedicated with the long term dedication with that resident. The respect and dedication given is outstanding, thanks again...always be truly grateful!!....you all deserve an award!

Kind regards

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.094)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.094) out of 10 for Woodthorne Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.394 for Woodthorne Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.394
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodthorne Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
