Coton House and its staff are exemplary, and the standard set is very high! Residents are treated more like one big family and the welcome that they and their relatives receive is warm, happy and friendly. My mother has now been there for nearly four years and is very settled. She is always clean, nicely
dressed and well fed with lovely meals and healthy snacks. There are in-house activities on some days, plus outside entertainers on others. On sunny days there are lovely gardens in which to sit. There are trips out eg to Bantock Park to see the grounds and have cake and coffee, or trips for a pub meal. Staff keep the named closest relative informed of any issues and the home has a very good interaction with local G.P's, District Nurses etc should your relative have any problems. The 'Record' keeping is excellent, and you can ask to see those of your relative at any time. I and all of my family can thoroughly recommend Coton House, Coton Staff and Coton Care!

The staff at Coton House are exceptional and extremely caring.
My mother has Parkinson's disease dementia and requires constant support and help with feeding.
The staff ensure that my mother gets all the support she needs with a personal touch.
What really helps is the open and honest communication
between management, staff and my family.
We feel that she is in good hands when we are not with her.
Coton House also provides prompt medical attention for my mother when required.
My mother is treated with dignity and we are grateful to the staff and management of Coton House.

We are very grateful to the staff at Coton for helping Mom settle so well. The staff are very caring, pleasant and helpful, keeping the family informed at all times, nothing seems too much trouble. It is very daunting for family initially, but staff have allayed our fears and we wouldn't hesitate to
recommend Coton.

I chose this care home because it was clean and well maintained, together with the cost and position. I have always found the staff very caring and they appear to be well trained for looking after residents with dementia and associated illnesses.
The residents have a varied menu with reasonable quality
food. There does appear to be a problem with the laundry, my wife has had other residents clothes on and articles of clothing have gone missing, which I have replaced.
Reply from Bal Kular, Director at Coton HouseWe thank you very much for the review. Although pretty positive we acknowledge your issues around laundry. We do believe you have now been shown inventory procedure and logging in and out process. The home has carried out a full audit and is happy with the laundry system going forward. A memo has been sent out to all families indicating the importance of logging in new items and putting name tags on. This was one of the areas which was confusing staff.

Many thanks.

They take excellent care of my grandfather and always keep me up to date regarding his conditions which is extremely valuable and reassuring to me as the nature of my employment doesn't always allow me to visit my grandfather as much as I would like.

When it became obvious that Mum needed full-time residential care, we had to make the difficult decision of where she should live. I can't imagine her receiving better care anywhere than she did at Coton House. I have visited a number of care and nursing homes over the years and despite the excellent
work many of them do, they can be a little depressing. That is not the case at Coton House, where the staff ensure that the atmosphere is a relaxed and happy one. Every time I visited Mum I could see that the staff genuinely care about the people they look after and Mum particularly enjoyed the affectionate ribbing and banter between her and " the girls" - the sort of interaction you can't fake. Mum laughed more during her time there than I can remember her doing for a long time. The directors have put together a wonderful team at Coton House and I'd recommend them to anybody.

My father sadly passed away in November after spending 4 happy years in Coton House. During this time my father was treated with utmost care - nothing was too much trouble for the staff. When my father was confined to his room after being put on end of life care in August, the care and treatment he
received from all members of staff will never be forgotten. The staff always found time to sit and feed him, talk to him and comfort him the best they could. Myself and all our family felt felt part of one big happy family at Coton , we shall always remain in touch. A special thanks to all the wonderful staff, you will remain in our hearts forever. God bless you all.

Coton house staff and management are always kind and friendly, whether it is when visiting my mother, or phoning up and asking about her. I think that the most important thing however, was that all staff were there for myself, my family, and of course my mother, when we needed them the most. If you
have experienced the day, when you have to take your loved one from their own home, and take them into residential care, you dread it. However all the staff, on the day, made life so much easier, and was better than I thought it would be. Many thanks and Best wishes to you all.

My father was resident at Coton House for approximately 18 months before he died in July 2015. We found the care provided for him was very professional and he was treated with dignity and kindness. His physical needs were taken care of and also the staff were always willing to talk to him and to re-assure
him when he became anxious. This was very important to us. He enjoyed the activities and outings provided and was always treated as a valuable member of the group. This was a safe and caring environment/home for him.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.415)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.415) out of 10 for Coton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.490 for Coton House is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.49
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Coton House is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

A Well-Oiled Machine: Strategic operations allow the staff to spend less time on paperwork and more time on what matters most—the residents.

Under Dee’s leadership, Coton House strives to offer not just care, but reassurance, warmth, and a high quality of life. We don’t just "do" care; we "improve" care every single day. Dee doesn't just manage a home; she builds a community where excellence is the standard and every resident’s well-being remains at the heart of daily life.
