I visit my mum 2-3 times per week and I am welcomed every time I come. I am reasonably happy with mum's care most of the time but feel on the actual dementia unit that she is on and we pay extra for, there is nearly always one member of staff instead of two. All these clients need full support of 2 people and also should have constant encouragement to eat and especially to drink plenty in order to avoid so many UTI infections on that unit.

Reply from Carole Hall, Home Manager at Beechwood Residential Care Home

“Thank you for your review and recommendation. We always have the correct number of staff on hand to care for our residents, including at mealtimes where they are there to encourage and support our residents to eat and drink. Some people are unfortunately more prone to urinary tract infections...

I have found the home clean and the residents well cared for. My father has vascular dementia and he is treated with the care and consideration. The staff know how to get him to laugh and brighten up his day. I have found the staff to be very competent and friendly - we often have a laugh when I come - it feels like a home environment rather than the staid institutionalised environment. We often think of care homes having marks out of 10 - 9 and a half.

I recently took my nan to visit an old friend who was living at Beechwood. The carers and staff made us feel very welcome, offering us drinks and cakes and sourcing us a fan to sit by as the conservatory was very warm.

My mum has been at Beechwood for a year now. At first she found the change in her life difficult, but the staff due to their care have reassured and helped her settle down. She is always treated with dignity and respect, and all her needs are dealt with appropriately in a kind manner. It is reassuring for me to know that she is well cared for, happy and secure in a safe environment by dedicated professionals.

My mother is cared for with efficiency and affection. The carers are all very kind to her and make it seem that physical help is no bother and give her as much personal dignity as possible. The staff are always friendly and welcoming to visitors, that is all the staff- kitchen, laundry, cleaners office staff as well as the management and carers. My mother really enjoys the food which is well prepared and varied. The activities coordinator is energetic and enthusiastic and does a very good job. Management members are always approachable and helpful.

I am proud of the home and the team here, who are supportive and make Beechwood feel like a family.

The home is set out so residents are able to access our gardens and have social interaction and we work in collaboration with them so they have a purpose to their day. This supports everyone’s well-being.

Sanctuary Care gives everyone opportunities to be the very best they can be.
