Beechwood is a thriving care home full of activity, which has a warm, family feel the moment you walk through the door.

Not only do the team provide residential and dementia care, they also offer pre-bookable respite care breaks. These are ideal for carers who might need a short break themselves, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

The enormous gardens are the perfect spot for residents to enjoy growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs, which is then used in the kitchen, where the chef creates delicious home-cooked meals.

During the summer, the team supported residents to create their own personalised garden plots and window boxes, where they have grown everything from flowers and beetroot to tomatoes. And the gardens are perfect for when ponies from the local riding stables pop in.

The team are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to have a very active role in how their home is run. Beechwood’s resident ambassadors provide feedback at residents’ and relatives’ meetings and welcome potential residents, spending time answering any questions they or their loved ones might have.

The local community is embraced into life at Beechwood. Local nursery children, community volunteers, a singing group, Gina’s exercise class and Malvern Community Library are all regulars. Animal visits are also popular, with everything from therapy dogs to reptiles!

Every Friday people from the Upton community join the residents for coffee and cake (11am- 2pm).

A hairdresser visits for weekly appointments in the home’s salon, and there is a large lounge, as well as smaller lounge areas and a conservatory to spend time with family and friends, who are welcome at any time. And families can also see what the residents have been enjoying doing on the home’s private Facebook page.

Sadly my mother died on 1st July, but she lived at Beechwood for 2.5 years. During that time she was generously loved and cared for and fully accepted for who she was. We chose Beechwood not for its elegance or luxury (though it is very adequately comfortable), but for the quality of care. We were not
disappointed. She was unable to take part in many of the activities but the programme was very good. Though there were a few management changes and a bit of staff turnover, the care still shone through.

My mother came here in August 2017 having spent 2 years in another home elsewhere.
The family has been more than satisfied from the very beginning, including preliminary visits.
The Alzheimer unit staff have such a good understanding of the care needs and their kindness and consideration is impressive.
The
whole ethos of the home appears to be geared towards ensuring the residents are comfortable and content and all levels of staff join in to contribute to a caring and friendly atmosphere.

The home seems well-designed for residents. There are separate units arranged on ground level and linked. Residents live in homely groups, not too many people at once.


The option of a conservatory is good and a number of small sheltered gardens is very attractive and user-friendly. Staff work hard

to support residents and assisting at functions such as summer fete.

I can't praise Beechwood highly enough. It's clean, cosy with a beautiful, airy conservatory that looks out over a long garden complete with raised beds and summer house. Staff are completely engaged with residents and treat all with respect and genuine empathy. Management is spot on. Food is excellent
and relatives are encouraged to pop in and share Wednesday/Sunday lunch. My mum has been there 6 weeks and is very happy there.

Qualifications for making these views: Thirty years in Local Authority Services, with senior management experience of residential care for the mentally ill/handicapped and elderly persons. Tick boxes are a quick way to identify the good and bad areas but not the staff box.
My wife is a resident in
Beechwood, my daughter is a very experienced nursing officer and they hold very similar views to mine. The managers of this house are to be congratulated on their recruitment of staff. Staff who are everything you hope for in people caring for your loved ones. My vocabulary will not allow me to describe my observations adequately in a way that will do justice to the grand people that now care for my wife, based on and built on the foundation of kindliness.

The food is wonderful. I see the chef often. I enjoy a glass of wine with my lunch from time to time. My laundry is done for me as is my bedroom. It's all very nice here. I love my carers.

Overall, I am happy with the level of care that my mother receives. The 'floor' has very caring staff and do their jobs to the best of their ability but, sadly, they are often very understaffed at Beechwood Residential Care Home all year round. Staff are not given any incentive to stay by the management
at Beechwood Residential Care Home. The manager, in my opinion, does not support the staff in any way.

Until recently I worked at Beechwood Residential Care Home myself (and remain friends with the residents who live there) and can wholeheartedly say what a lovely care home this is. The care staff are wonderful, genuinely kind, caring and understanding. I've found the home to be clean and full of laughter.
The food is very good, always fresh and plenty of it. I'd absolutely recommend this home to my friends and family.

I visit my mum 2-3 times per week and I am welcomed every time I come. I am reasonably happy with mum's care most of the time but feel on the actual dementia unit that she is on and we pay extra for, there is nearly always one member of staff instead of two. All these clients need full support of 2
people and also should have constant encouragement to eat and especially to drink plenty in order to avoid so many UTI infections on that unit.

Some people are unfortunately more prone to urinary tract infections because of pre-existing medical conditions, however, we have a below than average number of UTIs for a care home of our size and take every measure we can to prevent them. I have found the home clean and the residents well cared for. My father has vascular dementia and he is treated with the care and consideration. The staff know how to get him to laugh and brighten up his day. I have found the staff to be very competent and friendly - we often have a laugh when I come
- it feels like a home environment rather than the staid institutionalised environment. We often think of care homes having marks out of 10 - 9 and a half.

I recently took my nan to visit an old friend who was living at Beechwood. The carers and staff made us feel very welcome, offering us drinks and cakes and sourcing us a fan to sit by as the conservatory was very warm.
