The team at Brambles are devoted to supporting their residents to live life to the full. They follow Sanctuary Care’s Enriching Lives Framework, based on the six senses people need to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, purpose, security and significance.

For example, one gentleman loved fishing, so recently a member of staff took him on a trip to a fishing lake with his daughter. He was proud as punch to catch five fish, which gave him such a sense of achievement. Another resident has special childhood memories of Studley Castle, so another member of the team took her and a small group of residents there for a special tea.

The team provides residential, dementia and respite care, which can be booked in advance, for example if you care for a loved one at home and would like to take a short break of your own, you can pre-book respite care for your loved one.

Brambles has a very warm, family feel. And there are lots of lovely spaces in the home to enjoy, from the beautiful large gardens, complete with an allotment plot, a summer house and a heated outdoor café pod. The bedrooms have ensuite walk in wet rooms and there is a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser.

There are so many activities to enjoy, including gardening, regular visits from local school children, baking, knitting and book clubs, interactive games on the giant tablet and pampering sessions. There are plenty of trips out into the community, whether visiting a local garden centre or enjoying a pub lunch.

Residents enjoy home-cooked meals in the dining room every day, as well as freshly baked cakes with afternoon tea.

My wife has been a resident at The Brambles in excess of 7 years - due to Alzheimer's.
When she first arrived the Brambles was a homely, pleasant environment. But in recent times has been redecorated and changed to look more clinical. Such a shame because the staff and standards of care are second
to none but the environment now spoils the efforts of the staff. Also, the "new" furniture seems difficult to keep clean and is often dirty.

My Mum 84 yrs old had to go into respite after an operation due to circumstances, it was all extremely last minute, but the staff couldn't do enough to help me to help my mum with her recovery. The lady who checked her in and found out her needs and requirements was amazing, her diligence and care enabled
my mum to have a fantastic experience whilst in their care. From entering reception to all the fabulous staff who helped my mum so much in her time there, I can only offer my sincere thanks and lasting appreciation, anyone in their care will be much more than happy and their family members can rest in the knowledge that their family are in good hands.

Staying at the Brambles helped me to recover from my hip operation and there were three particular carers that went above what was expected. They have all given me help and care.

Dad had superb care on the dementia floor. He was treated with the same love and care as we, as family, would give him. It felt as though we had extended our family. The home provided him with end of life care, he has treated with dignity and respect the whole time. The support given to us was amazing
and made the whole experience of losing a parent feel special, loved and respectful. Thank you! You are amazing!

The staff are absolutely wonderful everyone of them. They really care it's not just a job to them, they go the extra mile each and every day for both residents and family. A very Victorian building in the process of being converted into a residential care home. The staff all got to make the stay relaxing and eating meals. They have activities both exhilarating and low key so everyone can take part. A session per day is given to music for the brain and get the body moving.
During the summer months, one or two of the residents attend to the garden which is very colourful at this time.

Nobody wants a close relative to be in a care home. Circumstances make it where it is the only option. Given the choice, my mother would clearly prefer to not be there, but she, unfortunately, is no longer able to live on her own, even with the support of carers throughout the day.
What the Brambles
have given to my mother is the gentle, permanent support she needs. She is no longer scared at night when it is dark. She has her own room with her own mementoes and pictures etc. She enjoys the activities that are organised - some more than others.
What the Brambles gives me, as her son, is peace of mind knowing Mother is safe and secure, with 24-hour supervision, every day. Sanctuary Care are nationwide, so their standards are as important to them as they are to me. All the staff are extremely helpful and courteous regardless of the time of day.

My mother came to Brambles in May 2018 for respite care. Excellent care whilst I was working away. She came again in November 2018, following discharge from a lengthy stay in hospital again the care and attention given to her was truly exceptional. The carers go out of their way to ensure that relatives
have peace of mind. I really hope she can continue to stay in the future.

Overall a good experience. Excellent care is given. I needed a lot of assistance and I was never made to feel it was too much trouble, staff were very kind and efficient, friendly and caring. They were busy all the time and at times I think more staff were needed.

Realising how ill I was relatives looked for local care homes who offer 24/7 cover. Research came up with the highly recommended home in which I now reside. Speedy work by the staff developed my ability to work unaided, partake in gentle exercises and improve my confidence. Hairdressing and chiropodists
being close to hand for follow-up treatment has proved useful.

My father resides in the Brambles and is happy there, staff are friendly, helpful but rather in short supply! If I need to speak to a member of staff very often they are not around possibly due to the fact that they are stretched over 2 floors. It would be beneficial to both residents and families if
staff were available and constant ie the same team on the same floor daily. I have to praise the staff but do feel they are too rushed so don't have the time to stop and 'chat' or even do the simple things like stirring the cups of tea they bring round to the residents! Although I only visit so I cannot be there at all times I never see the residents doing anything other than watching TV! Music might be nice - conversations and movement instead of sitting constantly.

Fantastic place, clean, warm, friendly.


Very efficient staff, very caring.


Keep me informed of anything important relating to Mum. Mum is extremely happy, loves the staff, the food, the friendly care she receives. Lots of activities.


I have complete peace of mind with Mum in Brambles. She

has no worries, nor do I.


Would recommend to anyone.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2012

Andy has been a home manager with Sanctuary Care since 2012 and tells us what his role means to him.


I enjoy coming to work every day at the Brambles - the home has a lovely community feel and we all come here with a smile on our faces.


I have two parents in their 80s - one of them lives with dementia and one with kidney disease, so for me I'm always thinking about how healthcare needs to be both now and in the future, to continue to enrich the lives of our older generation.
