My Aunt has been a resident of Hendra House for a year and a half now and has excellent care from the extremely well-trained staff and the owner. We are all very grateful to them for such a high standard of care. She has mild dementia and is disabled, but she has improved whilst a resident.

Our mother has been living at Hendra House for more than 2 1/2 years. From the start, my sister and I have been impressed by the attitude and practice of the staff who have devoted so much careful and thoughtful attention towards our mother's happiness and welfar.e We are so pleased that she is living
in such a caring and stimulating home. Gradually our mother's needs have changed so that she now requires a great deal of care and support. Despite the increased demands on staff, the Manager told us that Hendra is Mum's home and that they would provide whatever care is necessary to meet her needs. It was a huge relief to us that Mum could continue living in 'her home'. Mum has been given wonderful care; a mixture of good humour and attention to detail. Close liaison with medical staff in the community has meant that she continues to be healthy and comfortable. Despite her difficulties, Mum is happy and contented and we have peace of mind that she is treated with such dignity and kindness.

Sadly, my dear father passed away on the 18th July. He had not been well for several months and it became a stressful and anxious time for the family. He had been a happy, contented, lively resident of Hendra House for three and a half years - participating in the many, varied activities and social
outings. He loved everything about it and the staff were truly wonderful with him - even more so towards the end of his life- absolutely nothing was too much trouble. A couple of days before he died he was still telling me how happy he was and how wonderful all the staff were. He raised his hand saying “that manager is a good man.” During the whole time spent at Hendra House Dad could not have received better care anywhere. Hendra House is all about the residents and ensuring they receive the best possible life. There is lots of love, care, and an abundance of general happiness and fun.

The wonderful team at Hendra House could give lessons in how to care for the elderly! Kindness personified, every single member of the team manages to be professional, respectful, warm and, most importantly, intuitive and responsive to the needs of their residents. This is an attitude that comes from
the top and filters all the way through the staff. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, as soon as you walk through the door you can be sure of a welcoming smile, the offer of a cuppa and a feeling that all is well with the world. We do not live close by and were worried about Dad going into residential care, but we could not have wished for a better home from home for him. We will be forever grateful to everyone involved in his care and urge anyone looking for somewhere for their nearest and dearest to consider Hendra House.

One is greeted as a visitor with warmth and friendliness. One is always asked if you require anything, a chair, tea, biscuits, help to the room, using the lift. This gives comfort and security when entering the establishment. Residents in the lounge reflect this atmosphere and will also greet you and
when you are recognised direct you to where your own resident is seated often seeking them out for you. This demonstrated an environment that is more family then institution. The decor and furnishing is also warm and premises clean and staff are always here.
Any member will greet you and ensure any question or need is responded to. Above all the person I visit tells me only positive things about the establishment - happy and settled. That is the important factor. Well done. Thank you.

A very warm, friendly welcome. Hendra House is a lovely small residential home which really does feel like a 'real' home.
Staff are very kind and caring and very responsive to the varying needs of the residents in a relaxed and comforting manner. Residents are socially engaged throughout the day.
My
mum immediately settled in.

There is a view that care homes for the elderly are dull places where the residents are left to their own devices and their personal needs are not fully met. Hendra House is the complete opposite of this. Modern, clean, comfortable, well trained and responsive staff that deal with residents on an
individual basis, providing everything my aged mother needs. They are fully up to date with her medical and mental issues and provide our family with exceptional support that we could not provide ourselves. My mother is happy - and so are we. What more could we wish for.

Mum moved into Hendra House in May 2016. She has dementia with Lewy bodies. Staff were very understanding from day one and very supportive. The first few weeks of settling in were difficult for Mum and myself to come to terms with but the staff made a very difficult time much easier to cope with. They
keep myself and my sisters well informed of any needs mum has which of course are increasing as her condition inevitably deteriorates. You are always made welcome when visiting. Mum is kept clean and well presented. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hendra House.

Words cannot properly express the positive difference that Hendra House is making to my elderly mother's life and well-being on day one, she arrived a broken, fragile and scared person with challenging physical and medical problems. Now with the benefit of high quality care support and good medical
attention quickly received. I can clearly see her former self is returning. Hendra House is an exemplary care home on so many levels. All the staff are a pleasure to deal with. The care managers have a wealth of invaluable experience. I am kept well informed and the place is clean and welcoming. The owner, who is very approachable and a regular presence has implemented an excellent management system. 10/10

I have been at Hendra House for 10 months. The care and support I receive is exceptional. The staff are always willing and able to help me. Their care ranges from washing and dressing me, taking me to the toilet and making sure I am fed and watered. I have a comfortable room that is equipped to meet
my personal needs. What is particularly lovely is the way in which I am respected by staff and the individual attention they give me.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.977)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.977) out of 10 for Hendra House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.977 for Hendra House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (258 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 264 Ratings = 4.977
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hendra House Residential Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
