Mum has only been at Barrowhill Hall for a short while, but in that time I feel she has been well cared for, she is safe & happy. All the staff go that extra mile & nothing is too much trouble. It is obvious that staff do actually care for the residents and is not just their job. At Christmas all the residents received a beautiful presentation box containing some lovely thoughtful presents. It was a difficult decision to place Mum in a Care Home, but I know I made the right choice with Barrowhill. Thankyou to all staff.

My daughter and I visited many care homes when we were looking on behalf of my husband and were consistently disappointed. My husband has young onset dementia and is fit and active, so we needed somewhere where he wouldn't feel constrained nad could move freely. As soon as we arrived, we just knew that this was 'the one' - it's light, clean, has wide open corridors and communal spaces, and feels like a home from home. The staff are kind and caring, and nothing is too much trouble. The activity programme is excellent, as is the food. My husband is totally contented, and far happier now than when he was being cared for at home.

Our experience at this nursing home was deeply disappointing, particularly due to care and management of medications.
While some staff members showed compassion. It's unacceptable that such an important aspect of care could be mishandled in a professional facility.

We expected reliability and attentiveness from a place entrusted with people's lives, but this experience has left us with lasting doubt and disappointment.

My husband has been in residential care for 15 months and I have been very impressed by the care, compassion and respect shown to him by all the staff at Barrowhill Hall.
Earlier this year I had concerns about his oral health but with due diligence and perseverance the nursing home has ben successful in appointing a domiciliary dentist to oversee all the residents' oral health care, which is no mean feat in this day and age!

I would like to say a big thank you to Barrowhill Hall in achieving this.

Mum was in hospital for eight weeks and went directly to the home for palliative care.
All the staff were very caring, Mum and family were made to feel very welcome and we visited many times.

Everywhere was spotless, Mum's room was cosy and warm. The kitchen staff, carers and nursing staff did their very best for Mum as her health declined.

On visiting Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home for the first time, I was amazed at the vastness of the main sitting room. There appeared to be enough room for a great many people, all relaxing in comfy armchairs as well as seating available round various tables. There were enough carers dotted about the room ready to assist any patient that needed help. Everything ran like clockwork. How clean everywhere. My wife had her own room which had all amenities and was cosy.

My husband has been a resident at Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home for five weeks.
Initially remained agitated but now he is happy, settled and enjoys friendships of other residents.

The care is excellent, I searched for a long time for a suitable home (as a retired nurse) and the moment I visited, I knew this was the one. Activities seven days a week, lovely, friendly, caring staff, I can visit any time, have meals with my husband, he couldn't have better care.

I just find the care staff excellent, supportive but not overbearing, kind, proactive in dealing with the patients. The atmosphere is always calm and relaxed and never rushed or over noisy. Always made to feel welcome and always find a carer with my sister and being kind and attentive.

After having a really bad experience in a previous first respite, I was really anxious about my partner attending Barrowhill Hall. I was so wrong - he had an amazing week. The staff were so good with him, he had consistency with some 1-1 carers, and they were so attentive and I felt so relaxed leaving him there. Each time I contacted them, I always got through and was reassured he was doing well. Such a beautiful, well-maintained, positive place to stay. All the staff were very helpful and polite, and everything was well organised - highly recommend.

We have been extremely happy with the care that my father has received during his stay at Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home. The staff are very professional, if there are any concerns, the concerning matter or situations are reviewed under the utmost care and attention for my dad. The feedback we receive over my dad's care is given in a quick, precise manner. Well done to all staff at Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home, special thanks to the clinical lead nurse.

Dad has been at Barrowhill Hall for 4 months now. It was a difficult decision to move him into care but definitely the right decision. From the first meeting, the staff have greeted us with warmth and friendliness. Dad is genuinely well cared for and he quickly formed a strong bond with staff and is very happy there.
The home is in beautiful surroundings, it’s clean and comfortable and the food looks & smells fantastic. What sets Barrowhill Hall apart from others is the staff, the care and the attention to detail - that might be an elbow tap or a wink through to a game with a balloon, a walk in the garden, a bubble bath or a birthday cake made to meet dietary requirements.

I have no hesitation in recommending Barrowhill Hall.

My mum has settled in well to Barrowhill Hall/Churnet Lodge where all her current needs are catered for. This is a warm and friendly environment which encourages residents to be involved in regular activities. My mum has particularly enjoyed the recent musical entertainment, being challenged with completing jigsaws and games. She particularly loves having her hair done and nails painted! Therefore our overall experience is excellent.

“It's hard to describe a typical day at Barrowhill for me as every single day is different, you have to react to what is going on. But generally, I attend the morning meeting with all the heads of department, produce daily reports to Head Office and it’s my job to do the induction training for new staff.

“My favourite part of Barrowhill has to be the views. They really are spectacular, especially the walk down to Churnet Lodge from the main building. The view simply takes your breath away, it has to be seen to be believed!

“I hope that when families visit their loved ones they leave Barrowhill knowing that their relatives are being well cared for and they are happy and safe.

“I’ve worked here for just over 6 months now. Before that, I worked at Aggregate industries for more than 38 years.

After I took redundancy I realised I needed a change and I felt it would be nice to work in a different field and the people here make it a much more interesting place to work.

“Outside of work I love Football, I love going to watch Derby County FC and I'm the secretary of Mayfield FC!

“I’m from Mayfield where I still live with my husband. We’re lucky as all of our close family live nearby. Perhaps it’s because I come from Derbyshire and not Staffordshire that I don't like oatcakes!”
