My father is a resident and I could not wish for a better home for my dad. The staff are kind, caring and professional. Dad has all that he needs and more. I know he is well cared for and has never been happier. Dad is stimulated mentally with all of the activities, entertainment and day trips out.
Most importantly for me, the staff go above and beyond to care for him and are warm and welcoming to visitors. I give Barrowhill 5 stars with no hesitation.

I can sincerely say that both the care and facilities at Barrowhill Hall are simply outstanding. The care and love they show my mother is first-class. My mother was and is a glamorous lady, and the team knows this, as such, she is cared for in such a dignified and respectful manner. She is always so
well-presented, even first thing in the morning. The accommodation is fabulous, and the food is divine with lots of choices. The home is impeccably spotless, airy, warm cheerful, in fact, I dont think I've seen a staff member not smiling.
I can't express how grateful we are as a family that we found Barrowhill Hall and just how well Mother has settled here. Caring for those living with Dementia can be difficult, but it's not rocket science, it's heart science, and this place has mastered it.
Best wishes.

We felt the friendly atmosphere from the minute we turned onto the drive. The home is stunning and incredibly clean with zero smells, apart from good food. The staff are all amazing and treated the residents like members of their own families. The level of patience, care and affection were unbelievably
good, particularly for residents living with dementia.
We are always so well informed by the members of staff on anything regarding my mother-in-law. The care team are always warm and welcoming when visiting the home, and the manager is always available to chat and know our loved one so well!
We were worried about how she would settle into a care home, but it was the best decision we could have made. She is now in a vibrant, happy and yet relaxed environment, offering lots of activities. My wife and I couldn’t ask for more!

It was a very difficult decision to move my father into a nursing home. We had always previously cared for him at home.
As his dementia worsened we knew we needed professional care and viewed lots of homes locally. As soon as we walked into Barrowhill it felt like home. Amazing views, homely rooms
and living areas and importantly gardens which are important for my father.
Initially, we started with respite and now he resides there permanently. The care is impeccable, we visit regularly now we can and keep in constant contact with the home as to how he is doing.
The facilities are the best we saw by a long way and he seems so settled and much more engaged which is so nice to see.

Thanks, Barrowhill.

Barrowhill Hall is a lovely building with beautiful views serving good food.
Single rooms are very small with poor cleanliness.
Care plan not initiated by staff.
The family had to submit their own but was never discussed. Led to concerns about end-of-life care.
Management unfriendly and showed no
compassion to the resident or family.

My father was looked after by Barrowhill Hall Nursing Home staff for just under a year. They treated him with dignity and respect at all times, but more importantly, they truly cared for him. They built up a relationship with him and could see beyond his illness to the person that he was. Our family
will be forever grateful to them, knowing that he was safe and happy there was a blessing for us.

My grandmother has been at Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home for some time now and settled in very well. The staff are always polite and welcoming and my nan seems happy in the environment.
The staff are always happy to welcome the phone calls to check-in and this week a carer kindly arranged
a FaceTime call so myself and my daughter could see Nan after 12 months due to Covid.
I’m so happy we found Barrowhill Hall after visiting lots of nursing homes but they just didn’t feel right; when we looked around Barrowhill Hall it just felt like home.
Well done and keep up the good work.

My husband has been a resident there for 3 months during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to this, I have not been inside the home, therefore I cannot comment on the room, cleanliness etc.
My husband and 1:1 care which is extremely expensive, however, carers are different most days, therefore, there is no
consistency and they do not appear to understand my husband's needs and abilities i.e assistance with food and drink. There has been little effort made to enable safe Covid secure pod for visiting, communication ie skype for residents with families.

My mother has been at Barrowhill for the past three months.
When she joined the home she was extremely upset, this was due to her condition and the loss of her husband.
Because of the dedication, care and time of the staff my mother is now safe and relatively happy. Relatively because of her mental
state.
I was, of course, apprehensive of putting my mother in a home, but over the last months my fears have been put at ease and they have shown that they can provide a level of care that I could not.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.952)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.952) out of 10 for Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.434 for Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.434
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.518 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barrowhill Hall Residential and Nursing Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.8 = 0.743
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

“It's hard to describe a typical day at Barrowhill for me as every single day is different, you have to react to what is going on. But generally, I attend the morning meeting with all the heads of department, produce daily reports to Head Office and it’s my job to do the induction training for new staff.

“My favourite part of Barrowhill has to be the views. They really are spectacular, especially the walk down to Churnet Lodge from the main building. The view simply takes your breath away, it has to be seen to be believed!

“I hope that when families visit their loved ones they leave Barrowhill knowing that their relatives are being well cared for and they are happy and safe.

“I’ve worked here for just over five years now. Before that, I worked in the construction industry for more than 20 years.

"When the company I worked for closed and I was made redundant, I felt it would be nice to work in a different field and the people here make it a much more interesting place to work.

“I can be quite a sensitive soul, so the best piece of advice I've been given is from my dad and that's "Don't take it personally!"

“Outside of work I like walking, baking cakes and like most women I like to go shopping!

“I’m from Ashbourne where I still live with my husband. We’re lucky as all of our close family live nearby. Perhaps it’s because I come from Derbyshire and not Staffordshire that I don't like oatcakes!”
