This place is fab-u-lous. Cant express strongly enough of the 'care' the residents receive. My auntie is a resident at The Firs. Shes been there 18 months as she couldn't cope at home anymore. The place is second to none. They put the care in care home. Recently my auntie had to go into hospital. The
carers on shift that night stayed an hour over their shift to be with her.

I rate The Firs Care Home extremely highly having had recent experience with my father being cared for by them for the last 10 months. The staff are pleasant, professional + extremely caring at times going above + beyond what you would expect from them. They genuinely do care! The home itself is spotlessly
clean + there is a happy feel about the whole place when you visit. Management are very approachable + hands on making for a care home that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

This week we arrived to see my mother-in-law (myself, husband, sister). We asked my sister could have a look around because we need to find somewhere for our mum. We are happy with the care our mum is receiving. Nothing was too much trouble, and all her questions were answered. We were not rushed at
all, and my mum was invited to go for lunch, so we cannot fault the staff and the service, lovely, warm and clean, staff so friendly.
Reply from Alex Hartles, Operations Manager at The Firs Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the care your mother-in-law receives and that your visit gave your family a positive impression of the home. We understand how important it is to find the right care environment for a loved one, so we are pleased that all questions were answered and that you felt welcomed during your visit. Your kind comments about our team, the atmosphere and the home itself are greatly appreciated.

Everything about this home is delightful, especially the management and the carers. The activities are excellent and very special, especially the trip to the pub for lunch. The meals at the care home are something to be savoured, the cook I must express my thoughts on what a wonderful chef they have
at The Firs. She presents beautiful food. What a lovely care home I have come into.

We struck lucky when we found The Firs for our mother. The home is very calm and bright and the lounges comfortable and welcoming. The care that our mother received was given with such love - the staff were looking after residents as if they were their own. We were happy and relieved to leave our mother
in their care.

The home is always lovely and clean with no smells whatsoever. The staff are friendly, cheerful and clearly love the service users. Her room is always clean, the linen is spotless and is beautifully presented. I just wish we could put things on the wall for her to make it more personal. She always looks
clean and tidy and has her hair done weekly. I have no concerns whatsoever and feel confident she is in safe hands.

The Firs is an excellently run and well managed care home. The staff are its greatest asset - they are caring, professional and thorough. They treat the residents (including my mom) with respect and maintain her dignity. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. All administrative issues are
dealt with efficiently and communication is first class. Medicines are administered diligently and daily activities are varied and excellent. A kind, caring ethos pervades the home embodied by the manager who is very much hands on and approachable. My mom has been extremely well cared for in the past year and my family are very grateful and reassured by the high quality of care of The Firs.

My mother has been at The Firs for the last two years. She settled in really well and that was due to all the staff being so incredibly caring and friendly. My mom enjoys the many activities at The Firs that include singers, school visits, animal visits and trips out for lunches and shopping, amongst
many other things. My mom enjoys diamond art and having a chat with other residents. There is a varied menu for meals and the food looks delicious. All the staff are very attentive and are quick to pick up on any issues. The home is always spotlessly clean and it is beautifully decorated. The Firs seems to be run very efficiently.

The firs is a lovely place, beautifully maintianed with particularly pleasant lounges. Every member of staff I've encountered has been cheery and helpful, with nothing too much trouble. The activities put on for residents are particularly impressive too - 'crafting' for the rollout of events celebrated
throughout the year... and an exercise class which feels like a workout for any visiting relative/friend who wishes to join in! I would recommend The Firs very highly.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.892)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.892) out of 10 for The Firs Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.892 for The Firs Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (415 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 464 Ratings = 4.892
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Firs Care Home is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
