I came to The Lawns for respite care as I had a bad dose of the flu, chest infection and a urine infection. As there were no beds available in the hospital I was sent home with a bag of medication. For 10 days I seemed to live on medication and water until I could no longer cope.
The Lawns were great,
so caring and kind with lovely food and drink which really helped my recovery.

My mother spent over three years in The Lawns Care Home and in the early days of transition form her flat nearby to this wonderful home was quite difficult for her, but the management and staff managed this period very well. Laterly the last days of her life required extra special care from the management
and staff who made this very traumatic period very comfortable for mum and her family and close friends.
They went the extra mile and should be commended for it.

Been helpful and very friendly improved the wellbeing of my mother.

Very welcoming home where staff are very caring for both user and relatives.

Extremely clean home almost seems like a hotel rather than a care home.

Carers are very supportive but need training regarding catheter regime, e.g. bags changed on a specific day weekly and not discarded indiscriminately.
Reply from Sam Towse, Home Manager at The Lawns Care HomeThank you for your feedback, I am glad to hear that our team were ‘very supportive’ - we pride ourselves on our standard of care so I am sorry that you feel yours haven’t been totally met on this occasion. We have a very robust training system in place which covers catheter care but following your review, this will be re-visited. Thank you for helping us to continue to improve our care and I am pleased to welcome you back as a returning resident to The Lawns.

I had travelled 60 miles to see my great aunt at The Lawns. I was greeted by the most friendliest of staff, who offered me refreshments knowing I had travelled quite a distance. My great aunt is extremely well cared for and loves the homely environment. She tells me the staff are second to none.
During
my visit, I was invited to take part in the crossword afternoon.

My stay was only for 2 weeks after major heart surgery. I found the atmosphere happy, caring and comforting. Staff treated everyone with gentleness, humour and a smile, even in some very trying circumstances. Food was simple but well presented. There was a vitality among the residents which belied the
seniority and physical weaknesses of many of them, undoubtedly due to the stimulation and care of the staff.
Thank you, you provided a strong boost to my recovery.

Mum was very well looked after by all the staff and enjoyed her stay. She was slightly disappointed with the food as some of the food was not cooked enough or was quite hard for elderly people to eat but all the residents said the same. I felt that she was safe while I was away on holiday and would
definitely ask for her to come back and stay for respite again.
Reply from Tessa Matthews, Marketing Manager at The Lawns Care HomeThank you for your comments and feedback. Your comments about the food will be passed on to our Chef and team. We are so pleased that your mum enjoyed her stay at The Lawns and we would be delighted to welcome her back again.

Our mother spent 10 days as a respite resident at The Lawns. This was a new experience for her and at 94 she had ever stayed in a residential care home before so she was very reluctant. From the moment she walked through the doors at The Lawns her anxiety disappeared. The warmth of the welcome; the
friendliness of the staff cannot be overstated. In her own words, they are "helpful in the extreme and always pleasant and cheerful". Everywhere was "spotlessly clean" and she was "continually asked if you had everything you needed". Thank you to all at The Lawns.

Unfortunately, the home did not line up to our expectations.
He actually came out worse than when he went in for his week's respite.
His MS is worse than ever now.
Reply from Sophie Hallam, Marketing Assistant at The Lawns Care HomeSorry to hear that we didn’t line up to your expectations. It’s good to hear your feedback and it would be great to be given the opportunity to chat through your concerns if you feel able to pop in to see me. The team pride themselves on their excellent service and regularly receive superb feedback from family and visitors to our home. They will be very saddened to hear your comments, so if you can pop in, we would really like to try to understand where we have gone wrong.
We are quite surprised to see the feedback about food and drink. Our chef has received a number of accolades for his food and we hear nothing but positive feedback from residents, so we are really surprised that you didn’t enjoy what was on offer. If there isn’t something you feel like having on the menu, the chef will rustle up something that really grabs your fancy. The menu offers fresh, seasonal options and has a range of alternatives available. It’s very rare that we can’t find something you like. However again, my door is always open – please feel free to pop in to have a chat.

All the very best to you both.
Sue – Home Manager, The Lawns.

My mother has been a resident at The Lawns for approximately one and a half years. The care that she has received is exceptional. The staff are extremely pleasant, professional and caring and the environment is also very pleasant.
Beautifully appointed and homely whilst perfectly suited for purpose.
The food is very good, my mother tells me it's delicious and the meals offered are carefully prepared to suit most tastes. Regular entertainment is provided. My mother loves the visiting singers.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.755)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.755) out of 10 for The Lawns Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for The Lawns Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (175 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 215 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lawns Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
