The staff at the Rowans have always been very caring friendly and helpful since my mother moved in December 2022. I did have some concerns about the management. However, management has changed and I am delighted to have seen improvements in such a short space of time. The biggest is the introduction
of a key worker system which has worked in social care for many years. I know it is a great benefit to the people supported. I look forward to seeing more improvements under the guidance of the excellent new manager.

My auntie was at the Rowens for over 2.5 years with dementia. I was a frequent visitor. It's a very homely, clean and spacious place and the meals were varied and tasty. All the staff went over and above their duties to give excellent care and support while maintaining my auntie's independence for as
long as possible. The staff are very professional, caring compassionate and loving. There was regular entertainment and activities. Communication was good. I will be forever grateful for the kindness and love shown to my auntie, and the support and care I was given. I had peace of mind knowing she was well cared for not only physically but mentally and emotionally too. If you find yourself in the terrifying position of needing care for your loved one then I highly recommend the Rowens. I’m not one for reviews normally but I witnessed on a regular basis the care, hard work and dedication to enhance the lives of not only my aunties but other residents and it needed acknowledgement and many thanks!

My mother moved into The Rowans Care Home in February 2022 following a series of falls. The staff at The Rowans were very helpful in trying to make her feel at home, filling hot water bottle for her at night which was important to her comfort, getting new carpet and heater in her room. Mum thought the
food at the home was good. Mum had an ensuite room which she was very happy with.
My brother and I were not local so phone communication was important and staff were always happy to take the phone handset to her.
Staff looked after Mum well with frequent checks as she continued to have falls. In September Mum had a fall and broke her hip and she deteriorated physically and mentally after this. Staff did everything to make Mum comfortable and worked well with medical staff and daily nurse visits. They kept us well informed by phone and email.
Mum died in December, staff had alerted us and we were able to be there. The staff were very sensitive and caring both to Mum and to us.

We can really write anything about the review as of covid. But when we have been to see Mum, all precautions were done to the letter. The staff have always helped with feedback on how Mum is.

From the beginning, I knew this was the right place for my aunt. Due to the virus situation, at 99 years of age, she was scared and unsecured after being in two hospitals with a fractured spine, and then the home. However, they were so kind and understanding at The Rowans. With no visiting it was difficult,
but she settled down very quickly, nothing was any trouble. She was that comfortable that she thought she was staying in a hotel. Right up to her passing, they were a blessing.

I found the home clean and friendly. The meals were of good quality and fulfilling. Puddings were delightful and tasty. Plenty of cups of tea and juice to drink.
Comfortable beds and clothes washed and laundered on request. I've made plenty of friends. Helped with a little gardening but long for the
day when I may go home.

I'm grateful to The Rowans staff for the excellent care that they bestowed on my dad, nothing was too much trouble. Through covid-19, relatives were/are unable to physically see or hug their loved ones, but the wonderful Rowans staff have done everything in their power to maintain communication, for
this, I can't thank them enough - excellent food and care, can't thank them enough. Thank you.

The care my mother has recieved over the last 4 years has been very good. I have found the staff very friendly and supportive to me and the family. The staff have always consulted me on any issues regarding my mother's care and wellbeing.
During this period of lockdown, the staff have kept me informed

My Mum had previously stayed for respite before becoming a permanent resident due to her second stroke and dementia. We chose this home as it is always clean and inviting. The staff is fantastic. They have genuine care and empathy whilst also having good sense of humour with all. I am always made to
feel welcome when I visit. There is a nice atmosphere in the home all round.

My sister and I made the very hard decision to place Mum into this care home last July 2019. At first, we thought we'd made the right decision and mum appeared to be very well looked after, however as time went on, Mum became more withdrawn and she looked at times dirty and unhappy. I even had to ask
for Mum to be showered! Mum lost weight and the staff when I called all gave a different version of mums wellbeing. On two visits Mum had 'funny turns' and I had to request for a doctor to be called as nothing had been done. 9 months on and Mum has sadly and suddenly passed away (09.04.2020) I'm still waiting for a call from the home regarding my mum's personal things (to which they have lost her jewellery) and no condolences have ever been made/offered it's like my Mum never existed. I have sent various emails and I am still awaiting replies after 11 days. In this difficult time, I am saddened by their lack of response and decency.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.264)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.264) out of 10 for The Rowans Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.439 for The Rowans Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 173 Ratings = 4.439
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Rowans Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
