My mother received the most excellent care and attention during her residency. The staff were caring, patient, attentive and treated her with the utmost dignity. She was well looked after and loved all the way until her passing. During her last few days the staff went above and beyond to ensure she
was comfortable and well cared for which made her passing a peaceful one.

My late husband was a resident of Spencefield Grange for 13 months. I was enormously impressed by the kindness and compassion he was shown, even though his behaviour was at times challenging. He was always treated respectfully and with dignity. He had been in a different care home for assessment for
three months, where he was neglected and spoken to rudely - as was I. By contrast, the staff at Spencefield were always welcoming and friendly, creating a positive, warm atmosphere.

I am very impressed with the care home they took really good care of my grandad. They are very polite and caring. They show the residents a lot of respect and are very patient with them. They have a good variety of food and drinks. The rooms are very clean for the residents. The staff are always willing
to help no matter how busy they are. Very welcoming feeling when you arrive. I would definitely recommend this care home.

Avoid at all costs! This home is simply terrible. The lack of care to my stepmother was a constant joke. Due to covid, it took me 15 months before I could move her. Dirty clothes, lost clothing, she wasn't showered, very often constantly smelly, clothing damaged. She was not even allowed a towel in
their toilets. When she contracted covid the home didn't even bother to inform any family member. Honestly, the list goes on and on. I truly wouldn't leave anyone here.

The customer service and caring for my father were very good. The freedom for him to move around is what was needed for his time spent there. The management and staff were extremely helpful, and phone access to know his condition has been excellent. I am glad my father was happy with his time spent
there. Continue the good work.

Mum never wanted to go into a home - like so many, but now she wishes she had gone in earlier. The carers she loves and holds very close. She thinks herself so very lucky to be in such a home that really respects and values their clients. I know my mum can be "trifle challenging" at times, but the team
seem to "know" their clients and treat them accordingly. I recently travelled from New Zealand to visit my mum and was absolutely astounded by the warmth and care I both saw and received. The activities that are put on are amazing. Well done, team - until next year.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.479)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.479) out of 10 for Spencefield Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.771 for Spencefield Grange is calculated as follows: ( (39 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.771
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Spencefield Grange is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2021

I started my career in care as a Health Care Assistant and have progressed and worked my way up through the Health and Social Care Industry, working across many services such as mental health, learning disability, children's services and dementia nursing reaching the position of Area Manager.

In 2021 I joined Kirklands Care as their Operations Manager overseeing all of their care homes. Kirklands Care is a family run business that shared my own beliefs of care and that the residents care is of upmost priority and this for me comes first. My love of spending time with the residents shines through my work, hearing their stories and having the ability to make a difference in their lives. Every resident I care for is treated how I would expect my family member to be cared for which for me is with love dignity and respect. My role allows me to work with families to take the pressure off whilst allowing them to feel their loved one is in a suitable environment, is safe and cared for.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2024

I began my journey in care in 2020 at the age of 19, shortly after completing my A-levels and realising that this was the path I wanted to pursue. I started as a Care Assistant and worked my way up to Senior Care Assistant, before progressing into my current role as Deputy Manager. Along the way, I’ve also supported in key roles such as Catering Manager and within Housekeeping, all within the care home setting.

I hold an NVQ Level 3 in Lead Adult Care Work and continue to build on my knowledge and experience every day.

My passion for care began in childhood. Growing up around the care sector often accompanying my mum to work. Some of my fondest memories come from being in that environment. From a young age, I learned about dementia and the importance of providing care with dignity, compassion and purpose.

For me, care has never been just a job. It’s a lifelong commitment. I’m dedicated to supporting individuals to live with comfort, respect, and a strong sense of self because everyone deserves to feel valued, heard, and truly cared for.
