It was a shock when my friend was diagnosed with dementia and an even bigger shock when she finally moved to a care home. I was nervous the first time I visited Bernadette House but I needn't have been. The staff are lovely. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they go way beyond what is actually
expected of them. It truly is a 'home away from home' and I appreciate the kindness with which my friends and family are treated.

From day one, mum has been looked after with exceptional care and compassion by the wonderful staff at Bernadette House. As her condition has deteriorated and altered during her stay, her needs have always been reassessed and catered for in an extremely professional and caring manner.

My main comments

would be regarding the staff at Bernadette House. The genuine care they show for mum is far above the "call of duty". Often when we visit, there is someone sitting with mum, doing paperwork or some other task, which could easily be done elsewhere. They choose to do it where they can keep mum company, which is really nice.

When mum was really poorly a few weeks ago, the genuine concern of the staff was very touching and you get a strong impression that it is not just a job for them.

I can not recommend this place highly enough.

My aunt is receiving fantastic care at Bernadette House. The staff don't just look after her, they really care. We arrived with a bird feeder for my aunt so she could watch the birds from her window, only to discover the home have several already. The lady who organises the activities is very nice and
it was good to see my aunt painting again like she did when we were children. I can't praise the home highly enough.

Mum and Dad needed residential care when Mum developed Dementia at the age of 90 - Dad was already 93 - and we were lucky to find Bernadette House, a professional care home, tucked away close to us near the centre of Lincoln.

The atmosphere at Bernadette House is what matters, and that's down

to the people who work there - they are genuinely caring. It was the right place for our parents - the three years they lived there until they died were characterised by much love, patience and thoughtfulness from the staff. As a visiting family, we also felt very much supported and cared for by everyone. We shall miss our daily contact which has been such an important part of our lives for the last three and a half years.

I have been visiting my friend who is a resident at Bernadette House for past couple of months. I am always impressed by the care she receives. Her health is improving and she is very well looked after. The food and activities are good and she enjoys being with the other residents. I look forward to
visiting her as I don't feel I'm in the ways and the home is very clean.

Attended an Easter Party. Staff were caring, friendly and some came in on their day off to help. Lovely buffet for all. Our friend had lunch another day three courses on proper china plates. Our friend is looking forward to summer to sit in the gardens. They spend sunny days playing games outside. We
took him out the other day and he was dressed lovely, shaved and ready for the time we said. He has put on weight and looks well and says he is happy.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We have been asked for input with regard to the care plan. An Easter Party was arranged and attended by family, it was really lovely. The home is in the process of being re-decorated the rooms already done are lovely. The meals all home cooked and choice is
given. The staff go that extra mile to help residents make the transition between home and Bernadette House. The home does not smell. They welcome my children and the dog too.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.863)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.863) out of 10 for Bernadette House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.500 for Bernadette House is calculated as follows: ( (22 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.363 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bernadette House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.238
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
