I cannot express how much it meant to me that my Mum was happy and cared for in her last year. I was always consulted regarding her wellbeing. The staff are amazing, friendly, helpful. During Mum's passing, I felt like the staff were part of my family, they went above their duty to comfort me and my mother.

Boultham Park House was home to my mum for over 3yrs. My mum suffered with dementia and passed away in June 2018. During this time I always found the home to be clean and comfortable with a good standard of hygiene.
The meals offered were nutritious and well balanced and very well cooked. If mum who was a poor eater didn’t fancy anything on the menu it was never any trouble to the chefs to prepare her favourite scrambled egg or whatever she fancied that was available.
Visitors are always made welcome and actively encouraged to visit and join in activities and events.
The care given by the staff particularly as mums dementia worsened was amazing. The standard of care and compassion was undoubtedly delivered with professionalism and compassion with mums dignity always respected. The staff not only cared for mum but supported my brother and I.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the care home and can’t thank the manager and her wonderful team enough.

Mum has responded really well to the environment at Boultham Park House and made fantastic progress when compared to her arrival after two weeks in hospital.

She is pretty much like the mum I knew before her fall. In fact, the social situation at Boultham Park House has actually improved her general communication abilities. It is an amazing success story for her and all of you associated with this change, from the medical care to the time found to support her.

The staff are genuinely friendly and professional. Support for residents and relatives is always available. Response time to alerts is rapid. At no time are residents feelings or wishes compromised. Food is of a high standard. Every effort is made to make BPH a home from home. Activities could be improved, if there is a criticism, however, the basis of the care home is to deliver faultless care and attention which is achieved on all levels.

Overall Experience

My mother-in-law spent her final two months in Boultham Park House (BPH). My wife and I chose BPH because we sensed immediately we entered the place a light, bright, airy, friendly, welcoming and above all caring atmosphere. From the manager, through all the carers, the kitchen staff, the cleaners and the maintenance man, everyone very actively and positively devoted their time and energy to caring for the residents.

The whole facility was custom-built to provide for care. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The food was excellent with hot and cold, nutritious and varied menus served in whatever way the residents needed to match their physical and emotional needs. We witnessed excellent activities to encourage residents' involvement. There were outings, there was a full engagement in all Christmas celebrations that brought joy and stimulation. Above all else, BPH gave my mother-in-law a home for her final days that was filled with laughter, warmth, dignity and love.

My Uncle required respite from his carer.
I made enquiries and within 4 hours he had a placement with you.
First impressions, I was overwhelmed by the genuine care we all received when we arrived.
The staff (Admin) and carers were second to none. Day two and my Uncle has settled in so well he doesn't want to leave!

Excellent service, we can't thank you all enough for everything.

Mum lived here for 4 years and she was treated with understanding and kindness despite being a little 'difficult' at times. She was given respect and her dignity maintained. Her end of life care was particularly good.

All the staff (manager, carers, kitchen staff and handyman) treat residents and visitors with respect, dedication and are friendly and helpful. The rooms are nicely furnished and kept clean and tidy. Meals are very good, giving choices at each meal. Friends and family are encouraged to visit at any time and lovingly supported through difficult times.

I would want to live here if I become unable to care for myself.

I became a resident together with my wife in the care home on 3rd January 2017. In this short period of time, I have been greatly impressed by the care workers ability to deal with every situation that presents itself. Nothing is too much trouble and attitudes dealt with with great tact. All the working staff create an atmosphere of friendly cheerfulness. The building is modern and stands on beautiful grounds with lovely views. As the weather improves outings of a variety are organised which gives pleasure and helps pass the time. Entertainment is also provided indoors. All is extremely efficient.

Mum was very content here, the staff who like a laugh and a chat with the residents were brilliant. The food was also very good, as was the work of the cleaners and laundry staff.
The entertainment lady was also very nice and encouraged residents to take part in as much as they wanted too.

It's the staff that make a care a happy place.

Yesterday we (myself) and one of your residents and several friends held a surprise afternoon tea at Boultham Park Care Home. I organised as a mark of our love for this resident who was to move from the home to live with her daughter. I was very helped by the staff who gave me so much help in setting things out, and in supporting me in keeping it a surprise event. In the year that my friend has lived at the home, I have seen such love and dedication from all the staff. Their care and kindness has been exemplary - always going the extra mile! Thank you so very much.

I cannot fault this residential home for the care given to my mum and my family. I feel that if anything it would be more staff needed. The staff were so caring to us and mum in her last hours of life, they were truly fantastic.

We took mum into Boultham in January 2015. She had dementia and was no longer steady on her feet. When we arrived a young carer greeted us at the door with a welcoming smile. Mum was very frightened. They soon settled her in. I visited mum regularly in the two years she was with them, and can honestly say all the carers were kind and very patient with all residents.

They are very well trained in dementia care. We valued the friendship they gave us too. Boultham was always kept clean and the domestic staff do a brilliant job. On the sad day that mum passed away, we were supplied with food and drink.

Absolutely brilliant. All staff show the utmost care and dedication to their respective jobs. Nothing too much trouble and go out of their way to do anything which was asked and always with a smile, no negativity what so ever. Sometimes when you walk into a place, you get a kind of vibe and think along the lines of not being very good. But I never did have that feeling at Boultham Park House, always greeted with a smile and kind words and all staff knew what they were doing, in a nutshell, didn't miss a trick. Best possible care, knowing mum was in good hands, a great comfort to the family.

Joanne JohnsonJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2003

Joanne Johnson is the Home Manager at The Orders of St John Care Home, Boultham Park in Lincoln.

Joanne has worked in the care industry for the last twenty-two years, the last fifteen being with The Orders of St John Care Trust. She began my career initially as a Carer, working both days & nights before then being promoted to Care Leader, which gave Joanne the necessary leadership skills to become Head of Care and more recently Home Manager.

As Joanne has developed personally in each role, that passion has never left her and now as the Home manager, she still gets a real satisfaction from engaging with the Residents and helping where she can.

Since working in the industry, Joanne has achieved NVQ Level 2&3 in Health and Social care, Level 3 in effective Management. Jo is a medication champion for the Trust, and an appointed First Aider, who is working towards her level 5 management award.

In 2016, Joanne was presented with a chairman’s commendation for meritorious service which she is extremely proud of.

Every day is different in the life of the care home, usually very busy, but managed effectively by prioritising tasks. Jo has a very approachable nature and has an open-door policy enabling all colleagues, residents and visitors to feel they are able to talk to her.

Joanne’s passion for care of the elderly developed at a young age, having a close relationship with her Grandparents and taking her Grandfather to visit his friends in a variety of care providers, she soon realised that she wanted to support individuals and make a difference where she could.

When not at work, I enjoy foreign travel, socialising, dining out, reading and spending quality time with my husband Richard and my much-loved dog Ollie.
