The home has a wonderful, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. All the staff and residents related to each other on first-name terms and with respect. The outside space is great, and so is the beautifully maintained garden. My wife enjoyed her time there.

Boultham Park House has been a godsend for my aunt. When she was discharged from hospital after a long stay in rehab, the home she was placed in was not ideal and we saw all her progress fade. Thankfully we found Boultham Park, where we feel she is treated with love, care and dignity. The staff and nurses are simply wonderful. The home is cosy, clean and has such a happy atmosphere. Our experience over the last six months has been 100% positive. It really is a home-from-home. Thank you!

Mum went to Boultham Park House in July 2021. We didn't think she would be with them for more than about six weeks. Before going in, Mum didn't get out of bed, was hardly eating, and I had to take a wheelchair into her bedroom to take her to the bathroom for a shower. Though it was the hardest thing I ever had to do leaving Mum there, as a family, we knew it was best for Mum. Mum has dementia and, at the time, didn't really believe there was anything wrong with her. Ever since then, Mum has had a wonderful time there. She has engaged in activities which we couldn't get her to do before. She was eating well and was more of her old self. The staff there cannot do enough for the residents, and nothing is too much trouble. In the beginning, I was ringing every day, but that was ok; the staff didn't mind. The staff are loving and caring and treat the residents like they are family.

Reply from Rowen Campbell, Regional Marketing Manager at Boultham Park House

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your mum's story, and I'm glad she has been able to get involved with all aspects of life at the home. I will pass on your feedback to the team at Boultham Park, as they will really appreciate your kind words.

When the time comes for your parent to move from their home, you look for somewhere where they will be happy and safe. We found that place- Boultham Park House. Mum says that she is looked after like a queen. Nothing is too much trouble and she is able to live her life as she pleases. Our family have peace of mind and can enjoy life with mum again, knowing all her needs are being met by caring, kind and highly skilled people in a place she now calls home.

My husband was in a very unsatisfactory care home. After much research, I was very impressed with all aspects of Boultham Care Home. He was finally moved there in September. He has settled well. The care is first class, the staff very caring and cheerful, plus activities and music. I feel more relaxed and confident that my husband is receiving the care he deserves.

The management and all the staff are brilliant in all aspects of care. They encouraged my wife to walk again, after coming from hospital, after her second relapse and return from hospital. She has been encouraged to get back to a normal day and taking meals in the dining room and enjoying activities in the lounges. As a family member, it is comforting to leave after a visit, seeing the kindness of all the staff.

I am extremely pleased by the care being given to my mother.

All the staff are very caring and professional and can’t do enough to make my mum feel comfortable and loved. I appreciate that it has been very difficult in the last year or so but the home has managed so well. Congratulations to everyone at Boultham Park!

My mother was booked for a 2-week respite stay to give her the opportunity to socialise and improve her mobility both of which had deteriorated during the pandemic. We were greeted by the Home Manager and her staff who made mum feel very welcome from the outset. Due to current restrictions, I was not able to see the facilities but there was a very friendly feel to the home as soon as you entered. Unfortunately, she only enjoyed this for 3 nights as she passed away unexpectedly. The staff on duty in the evening was so caring in this difficult situation and the Manager went into the home in order to speak to us. I would highly recommend this home.

A lovely friendly home to stay in they look after me so well. I am on a soft diet and my food is lovely. I love sitting in the different lounges and especially in the lovely garden slept very well and enjoyed waking up to a cup of tea in the morning. Everywhere is so clean, beds changed regularly and clothes washing is done so well and returned very quickly. Being in the home has made me realise how much the staff have t put up with sometimes. They have to have a lot of patience.

My Uncle has been with Boultham Park House since leaving hospital, whilst he would love to be in his own surroundings, he finds the home welcoming, comfortable and pleasant. The staff have all been amazing and going out of their way to make his life easy and enjoyable. He is happy with his room and the food is excellent. Friends have been made.

From my perspective, I can relax knowing he is safe and well looked after. Whoever you talk to at the home knows what is happening with him on a day to day basis. Procedures for covid are really good with respect to family visits, which is comforting. As a family, we have been involved with a number of care homes for other family members over the past 10 years. I would not hesitate to say that this home is the best that we have been involved with. A credit to all the staff.

From my first unexpected visit to view Boultham Park House to the last visit, I can honestly say the staff were very pleasant and more than welcoming. It was more than obvious their care for residents was unfaltering. The home is clean, safe, comfortable, light and in a good state of decor. There are plenty of sociable events made available for residents and always a cuppa for visitors. A very good care home form those who need it.

One big family! That is what it feels like whenever I visit Boultham Park House. All the staff recognise me when I visit and they know who I am visiting, not many places can have that family feel, with finance, kitchen or nursing staff. How lovely that they are there for my family member when I am not!

I have visited a friend since she became a resident at Boultham Park House, Lincoln, in November 2017 and during these visits (until Coronavirus at least weekly) I have witnessed the excellent care and support given by all members of the team. Whilst only 1 room has en-suite facilities the building and gardens are maintained to a very high standard. I have both personal and professional experience of care homes and would not hesitate to recommend this facility, which is truly a 'home from home'.

Staff are obviously under pressure in current circumstances. They seem to be coping very well with extra duties, (eg booking visits/sanitising visiting room etc), often whilst using PPE in hot weather. The zero infection rate at Boultham Park is a great achievement.

Overall, a very pleasant care home. The only issues I have is that Mum is incapable of using a mobile phone, so when I call the home's landline once a week to have a chat with Mum, it is very difficult to achieve this due to staff shortages, phone not working, no internet connection etc. Surely a better system could be put in place to be able to speak to my mother?

Joanne Johnson
Joanne JohnsonJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2003

Joanne Johnson is the Home Manager at The Orders of St John Care Home, Boultham Park in Lincoln.

Joanne has worked in the care industry for the last twenty-two years, the last fifteen being with The Orders of St John Care Trust. She began my career initially as a Carer, working both days & nights before then being promoted to Care Leader, which gave Joanne the necessary leadership skills to become Head of Care and more recently Home Manager.

As Joanne has developed personally in each role, that passion has never left her and now as the Home manager, she still gets a real satisfaction from engaging with the Residents and helping where she can.

Since working in the industry, Joanne has achieved NVQ Level 2&3 in Health and Social care, Level 3 in effective Management. Jo is a medication champion for the Trust, and an appointed First Aider, who is working towards her level 5 management award.

In 2016, Joanne was presented with a chairman’s commendation for meritorious service which she is extremely proud of.

Every day is different in the life of the care home, usually very busy, but managed effectively by prioritising tasks. Jo has a very approachable nature and has an open-door policy enabling all colleagues, residents and visitors to feel they are able to talk to her.

Joanne’s passion for care of the elderly developed at a young age, having a close relationship with her Grandparents and taking her Grandfather to visit his friends in a variety of care providers, she soon realised that she wanted to support individuals and make a difference where she could.

When not at work, I enjoy foreign travel, socialising, dining out, reading and spending quality time with my husband Richard and my much-loved dog Ollie.
