Overview

The Review Score of 7.2 (maximum of 10) for Ermine House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Ermine House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 2.5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.739 for Ermine House is calculated as follows: ( (115 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.739

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 2.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ermine House is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4 then divided by 2 = 2.000

    2. Target of 9 positive Reviews (45 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 9 Target Reached = 1 , then divided by 2 = 0.500

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

7.2 Ermine House has a Review Score of 7.2 (7.239) from 13 Reviews

My Auntie lived at Ermine House for 14 mths. The care and respect she received during her time there was second to none. She had a lovely room which was very clean and well decorated and I always noticed that she had pretty bedding on her bed. All of the staff I met were caring and cheerful. Auntie always commented about how good the food was - this was praise indeed as she was generally very fussy! I could not have wished for a better place for Auntie to live, once she was no longer able to care for herself. The staff were always very attentive and quick to call a Doctor when she was unwell.
I was impressed to see that there always activities going on for the Residents.

When Auntie needed end of life care at the age of 94, it was such a relief for us as a family to know she could return from hospital to Ermine House for her final days. She received all of the help and support she needed in such a caring and dignified way.

We are so grateful to Ermine House. Auntie was so happy there.

Mum has been at Ermine House since October 2015 and has settled very well. The home is very well run with an excellent staffing ratio of lovely, warm carers. Although the property was built in the 1960's it appears well maintained and is always beautifully clean. The meals are cooked on the premises and the food looks appetising and is plentiful. There is an activities coordinator and volunteers offering a wide range of things to engage the residents. Mum is very happy at Ermine House and we feel reassured that she is receiving such good care from staff who treat her as an individual.

I have always found the staff to be patient and understanding when dealing with my Dad. They are very helpful and sympathetic to his needs, and have reacted quickly and efficiently when outside help needed. Would recommend the Care Home to anyone.

The staff, are very good to my mother considering the pressure they are under. My mother is happy and settled here, which is all that matters to her family. It puts us at ease knowing that she is being cared for at all times.

I visited a resident who was remembered by the staff from a previous respite care. Her room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff were very caring and patient with the residents in general.

All the carers are excellent. It's the best care home in Lincoln. Always there when you want them. They do anything for you if you wet the bed they will change it for you. Activities are very good and you get outings, films, bingo and entertainers.

The home is always a friendly place. Very busy, entertainment for the residents if they want it. The meals always look appetising. and have quite a good choice. One big fault is getting your washing back, but I don't think any home has a perfect solution for that.

Emma Pickett, Home Manager, Ermine House at Ermine House responded to this review on 05 Aug 2016:

Thank you for your kind words about Ermine House, which will be appreciated by the whole team. I am sorry that you have been experiencing problems with return of laundry and can only assure you that we do our best to ensure all our residents get the right laundry back as quickly as possible. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me if you continue to have any concerns about this.

When I first came into Ermine House in February 2015, I was petrified and very unhappy. It did not take me long to get over the fear of coming into care, because I found the management and carers were extremely caring and helpful. Nothing is too much for them. They are all friendly and very caring. The food is good. The housekeepers do a splendid job as well. All the staff work very hard to make sure that each resident is happy and content. You really could not wish for more wonderful staff. I would never want to leave Ermine House.

My mother has been at Ermine House for a year now, I live in Southampton and visit her once a month. The manager keeps me up-to-date with e-mails and all the staff are very friendly and caring. My mother's dementia gets the better of her in the evenings, but the manager talks to me and explains things - like sundowning, and appointments are made with CPN's who visit her.
Mum's room is on the small side, but she is happy with it and has some things from home with her. She enjoys the food, as do I when I stay for lunch, and she said she wouldn't like to move. I cannot fault the staff, their patience and understanding are to be applauded. As you walk in the atmosphere is open and welcoming.

It is a good care home, the facilities are good but it would be helpful if details of things to do were published in the rooms, so residents would know what things were available to do other than watch television. I have never known this. Calls needing toilet should have priority rather than removing dishes. You should not have to wait over two half an hour after you have rung the bell for this. It would make a great deal of difference to the residents who are not mobile to have a small television in their room. Residents should not have to ask for a bath or shower they should have this offered every week. If news papers could be ordered it would be helpful.

Emma Pickett, Home Manager at Ermine House responded to this review on 13 May 2016:

Thank you for taking the time to let us have your feedback and we are pleased that you liked our home and the facilities provided during your short stay as one of our intermediate care clients. I have noted your comments and will feed these back to the care team. It is our normal practice to offer regular bath/showers and I am sorry this does not appear to have happened in your case. Newspapers can also be ordered if desired and again I apologise if this was not discussed with you. Our activities programme is displayed on the notice board but I will now ensure that this is also placed in each room – thank you for this suggestion.

My mother was taken to Ermine House in Lincoln following a stay somewhere else. She was admitted as a result of a fall on 20/21 Nov 2015. This resulted in no use of her right hand or arm. There were other issues re her mental health and continency problems. She is 90 on 15/7/16. Whilst she has been in Ermine House she has been treated with dignity and respect. The staff have kept in regular contact with myself and have kept me well informed.
