Your fees cover several areas while in their care.
These services are: Personal care, accommodation,
utilities, use of communal areas, meals, drinks and
snacks, laundry (excluding dry cleaning),
housekeeping, maintenance and activities run by the
home.


Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

I live in Liverpool so I couldn't visit regularly. I phoned the home every two weeks for a chat and updates. Everyone I spoke to was informative and kind, they looked after my uncle as if he were their relative. When I did visit my uncle was clean and tidy and obviously well cared for. At the end of
his life they were kind and respectful; even coming to the funeral. Well done.

I can honestly say that moving my aunt into Hartsholme House was one of the best decisions I've made. Not only does she seem happy and well cared for there. It has made my life so much easier in knowing that she has been happy, contented and well cared for during her last few years.
In my opinion,
Hartsholme House should be used as an example of how a care home should be run.

Staff at Harsholme House have cared for my mother for several years with compassion and professionalism. Furthermore, they have been flexible when enabling me to visit when I had travelled 220-miles to visit; I arranged this two weeks in advance. I have asked that the staff ensure that my mother is
kept warm when windows are open.

My wife has been a resident at Hartsholme House for just over 6 months. I cannot emphasize how wonderful the care, love and respect I witness being given to her by everyone at Hartsholme. I couldn't wish for her to be in a better place. Knowing how well she is cared for is such a boost and help to me.

My mother had been a resident since July 2019 but unfortunately passed away in September 2021. Throughout the time she was a resident at Hartsholme House she received the very highest level of care from a well-led team, an exceptional home manager and a dedicated head of care. I admire all of the staff
who do a very difficult job extremely well. My mother was exceptionally well looked after and I was always assured she was in the very best of hands. The home is well decorated, bright and well maintained throughout. This home excels in so many ways. When selecting a home I feel you need to look beyond the bricks and mortar and what you will find here are very happy residents that despite their dementia are respected, encouraged and well cared for. I was particularly impressed by efforts to ensure no resident feels alone or isolated encouraging lasting friendships with other residents. If you are looking for a care home look no further this is surely one of the best.

My mum could not be in safer hands. The staff here are exceptional and the standard of care here/they provide is outstanding. Not only have they looked after my mum they have always supported me too. Covid has been a frightening time. How the staff have adapted is exceptional. When I was unable to visit
due to restrictions, I did not worry as my mum could not have been looked after anywhere else as well as she was here. The staff made sacrifices with their families to look after my family. Thank you Hartsholme House.

This review needs to be taken within the context of restrictions necessitated by the Covid virus. My parents entered Hartsholme House in July 2020 during lockdown and although things are now relaxing, I have no experience of how life was for the residents pre the Covid virus. It has been a difficult
time for all concerned and it has been a tribute to this home that residents have been kept safe. Much as I regret the need for my parents to have had to go into care, I am reassured that they are being well looked after in Hartsholme House. The staff keep us, the family, well informed and are always willing to take time to answer any questions. I don't have the knowledge to answer whether the home is good value for money. The savings of my working-class parents who have jointly paid taxes for 100+ years are disappearing at an alarming rate. The social care system has been woefully neglected for a long time. it's underfunded, unfair and needs to be restructured.

My dad has been living at Hartsholme House since September 2019. He settled in really well, although it did take some time for him to accept his new situation. The staff are led by an excellent management team and their genuine care and support for residents is amazing. My dad appreciates company and
loves the daily contact with staff. The bedrooms and shared areas are kept very clean and there is a homely feel about the place. My dad enjoys the food which is varied, well cooked and appealing. Although different during covid, the activities team works hard to engage with residents and have enabled limited visiting as legally permitted. Hartsholme House is safe and secure and I'm so pleased my dad is being cared for by this amazing team.

Found it very hard to fill this review in because of the Covid, I never actually went in the home. But, I do know that my husband was well looked after and had no areas in the home that he was not comfortable with. Also, he said the food was good. So, I have filled it in as I think it is a well-run
home.

Having to move my Dad to Hartsholme House was a relief. He was a different man after a week because he was getting care and communication that he needed. Activities every day. The worry was lifted from the family (that he was being looked after!) Lovely place, lovely carers.

Our Mother has been at Hartsholme House for 1.5 years now after being in several care homes. This has been by far the best! We are delighted with the care given, she is always shown dignity and respect, nothing is too much for the carers to do for our Mum. She has a lovely bright, airy and clean room
which is tidied and cleaned to a high standard. As well as the setting being very clean and nicely decorated and modern. The home has lovely gardens and facilities. The food is always excellent with a great menu choice and home-cooked. There is an abundance of lovely, caring staff, who are always friendly, chatty and very helpful. During seasonal times activities relating to the season or special event are always considered and activities and crafts are laid on to amuse the residents or to participate in. It is a very friendly and happy home setting. We the family, are thankful and relived our Mum is at the best place she could be in.

Mummy spent the last few months of her life at Hartsholme House. It had become urgent to find care for her in the area. It was harrowing as I live miles away and had no knowledge of care homes in the area. From the initial inquiry to her death - during prudent virus restrictions - the staff were amazing:
caring over and above the call of duty, keeping me informed and involved. I was always made welcome, while permissible, and encouraged to spend precious private time with her. Nothing seemed too much trouble: I do not know how they found the time. I never regretted my decision. At admission; mummy was in a poor state, but soon she was well-groomed, well-nourished and hydrated, encouraged to participate and take part in relevant activities. Staff were vigilant and kind, giving her choice and always treating her with dignity. As she deteriorated due to age and reached her end of life care, they showed compassion and affection. Staff really 'care' for your loved ones: each one is special.

It's two years since my Dad went to Hartsholme House for three weeks to see how he got on. Having decided that he was happy there and had made the decision that he would like to stay, he made the comment that living on his own was just existing whereas, at Hartsholme, he felt that he was living his
life again.
Hartsholme and its staff never fail to impress me when I visit and they always keep me informed of my Dads well being when necessary. As I don't live locally and, therefore, am unable to visit quite as often as I might like, I find this most reassuring.

Cheryl

Cheryl Gilderdale

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2012

The forty three residents at Hartsholme House are looked after by a highly dedicated team of staff that include carers, administrators and ancillary staff. They are led by the Manager who is supported by a Head of Care and a team of Senior Carers.


Cheryl Gilderdale has been the manager of Hartsholme House since April 2012. Cheryl has been with the Trust for over 17 years’ and has great knowledge and experience in caring for the elderly in residential and dementia care settings.


Cheryl has always enjoyed caring for the elderly and in she joined Hartsholme House in 2010 as Head of Care before taking over as Manager


As well as NVQ level 4 in Health and Social Care. She has completed numerous short courses covering all aspects of caring for the elderly these ensure that all residents, residential, and dementia receive the best care from staff. Cheryl has also completed the Alzheimer’s Society leadership training programme, Champions in Dementia, which ensures the appropriate care is maintained for residents with Dementia


Cheryl sets high standards of conduct and performance for herself and her staff. As a result she is proud that the last inspection of the home by- the Commission for Social Care Inspection, has successfully rated them as meeting, or exceeding, the standards of care expected.

Conny

Conny McGowan

Job Title: Head of Care Joined: 2007

Conny, our Head of Care at Hartsholme House, initially joined the Trust in 2007 as a Carer at Hartsholme House and soon after was appointed as Care Leader, having already completed her NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care. Whilst working at The Poplars, Conny was offered the role of Head of Care and spent four years there before re-joining the team at Hartsholme House in 2012, continuing in the position as Head of Care. Conny achieved her Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care in 2015 and the continued her education with the Open University and was very proud to be granted a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology.

Conny is passionate about dementia care and works closely with her team members. She values ideas and suggestions to improve, not only ways of working, but also to promote the quality of life for each individual resident at Hartsholme House and is involved with innovative projects which will benefit the residents. Conny is proud to be part of a team that achieved an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating in their last inspection, and she works hard to maintain a high standard in person-centred care.

Conny, in her spare time, enjoys reading, playing badminton and spending time with her family.

Paula

Paula Robinson

Job Title: Head Housekeeper Joined: 2006

Paula Robinson is the Head Housekeeper at Hartsholme House and has been with the Trust since 2006.


Paula started as a relief Housekeeper and Laundress and progressed to Head Housekeeper in 2013, achieving her NVQ Level 3 in Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership.


Paula and her team work hard daily to ensure that the home is cleaned to a high standard and enjoys positive feedback from the families regarding the cleanliness of the home.


When Paula is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, eating out, DIY and gardening.

Tracy

Tracy Pattle

Job Title: Administration Assistant

Tracy is the Administration Assistant at Hartsholme House. She has worked in the Health and Social Care sector since 2004 after working in London as a Portfolio Administrator for many years. Tracy obtained her NVQ level 3 in Business Administration in 2009 and enjoys the varied days that the Health and Social Care sector brings.


After becoming the primary carer for various family members, she understands the challenges that are faced by families when choosing the correct person-centred care provision. She hopes that she, and her family's experience, can help others find the right care provider.


In her free time, Tracy enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and watching movies.
